Did a probably silly thing and smoked indoors, which I'm not supposed to do, but I just don't have time these days to go sit outside for 30-45 minutes, nor do I have the inclination to do so in this heat. So, as an experiment, I had half a bowl of Autumn Evening (notable for its pleasant room note) in a smallish Dr. Grabow, sitting at my desk, next to an air purifier. We'll see how the room smells in a couple hours.

Just received a Briarworks sandblasted cannonball and a tin of Carter Hall, which I never tried. The pipe smokes great. The bowl is hefty, but light when clenching. I always broke in my pipes with the tobacco genre I intend to smoke in a particular pipe. I have read that CH starts a nice cake. We will see.

Well, I went out to pick up some dinner, which gave my nose a good break from any lingering odor it may have gotten used to, and now that I'm back, I don't smell anything. First, minimal experiment, positive result.

First, minimal experiment, positive result. This is just anecdotal of course, but I smoke several full pipes in my house per day and nobody can smell it on a day when a non-smoking family member comes to visit if I've not been smoking for hours. It does help I suppose having no carpet or fabric to retain the smell.

2015 McC Old Dog in my Erik Nielsen bent Bulldog. My shoulder is feeling improved today. The immobilization with a sling and 800mg ibuprofen definitely help.

I will see an orthopedist next Thursday and will hopefully find out then. Based on how better it’s feeling, I’m suspecting tendinitis more than a tear. I’m just hoping it doesn’t interfere with the initial consult that I have next month with a surgeon for my carpal tunnel. Getting older sucks.

I’m just hoping it doesn’t interfere with the initial consult that I have next month with a surgeon for my carpal tunnel. Getting older sucks. I had no aches or pain until I was 51. Then when I was 54, I had pain running down my right arm, no matter how I positioned it. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and found out I had a herniated disc in the neck area, c5/c6. I have great insurance. I was charged full boat for the office visit. I inquired to the doctors office why I was charged this. It turned out he did accept my insurance, yet they scheduled a surgery. I cancelled the surgery with that low life and engaged a Nuero surgeon to do the surgery. He was the head Nuero surgeon at Rutgers. In the mean time between doctors, I started losing feeling from the waist down. It turned out the disc was pressing against my spinal cord. The neurologist surgeon did a synthetic disc replacement and everything is good. Immediate relief of symptoms. The operation was 80k, paid by insurance. With that first lowlife, who never told me I was out of network I would have been stuck with 20% of the bill. I have no use for many doctors. They are like auto mechanics, mostly incompetent or immoral, with a few who are honest and on top of their game.

The hand surgeon that I’m lined up with for bilateral carpal tunnel ie both hands) is supposed to be one of the top hand surgeons in the state and is one of two who my primary care doc says he’d trust to work on his own hands. I looked up the surgeon and found that he’s written a couple of books about medicine in the Civil War with titles like A Photographic Atlas of Civil War Orthopedic Procedures. So, I really hope my carpal tunnel surgery doesn’t turn out to be a historical re-enactment. 🤪

When my wife managed a practice, the first thing the staff asked a prospective patient was who their carrier was. Then they would check to see if the patient was in network or out of network. Common decency. In light of that, it is a good idea to confirm that you are in network at the first call you have.
