Sutliff Crumble Kake Red Virginia in the Boswell. First time trying this blend... Haven't tried it yet, but have about 5-6 tins in the cellar starting since early 2020. It's one that I've been throwing maybe one extra tin on orders a couple times a year to stretch them out and age them for 10+ years. I'll open the first 2020 tin maybe sometime next year. Tell me what you think about it. I loved the limited Crumble Kake #1 which is the same red VA base and really like the Sutliff VA Perique in the same line as the red VA.

I'll have to dry it a bit, and try it in a couple of different pipes. So far, not bad at all, and I have 3 tins to put up for longer term storage.

I don't have a single tin of any of them in the cellar.

Red Rapparee in an Arley Curtz apple. First bowl of RRR. Delightful and complex Scottish blend. Love it! My tin had 5 years of age on it.

Hogshead and Deception Pass are the only two which grabbed me. No disrespect to Joe, but the overpriced Sutliff tobaccos used and sold as if they're worth more than, for example, their $12.97(Now, I bought most on sale for $10) Crumble Kake series direct from Sutliff, or their 1849 at $9.74 a tin. A metal tin. Lastly, the fact they're sold in cheaper carboard tins like low end Sutliff $8.25 (Now $8.75) aromatics. I have smoked an ounce of each Mississippi River and Plum Pudding years ago and just the fact they're propylene'd and overpriced was the initial put-off. I didn't find either of those two special, or decent leaf used. Whereas, I was able to buy several pounds of Sutliff Balkan Sobranie 759 match for about $16-20 a pound and it's MUCH better than those overpriced tinned SPC I mentioned. They are sold for a good double the price they are worth. That's my two cents on Seattle Pipe Club branded Sutliff tobaccos.
It's now $110 for a single pound of Mississippi River in 2x 8 ounce tubs, yet the Sobranie matches in bulk by Sutliff are about $20. There's something egregiously wrong with that, to me, and it's nothing but rebranding. They are simply not using better leaf for SPC.

Thanks. Food for thought. Prices have definitely changed. Back when I was cellaring Deception Pass in the 8oz cans, it was something like $32 or so a can. One day, I opened a 8oz can and found a line of rust running straight across the inside bottom of the can. I looked on the outside and found a scratch line running across the bottom corresponding to the rust line on the inside. I looked through the cellar and found 4 other cans with the exact same scratch in the exact same location. All those cans got transferred to quart mason jars. All had a rust line inside. Obviously, the can manufacturer had a defective run of cans. 😕

I also realized, the Sobranie Original and 759 matches are now up to $32 per pound bulk, cheaper when you buy on a 15-20% discount and stock up. That's no good what you had with your tins, I'd also be really skeptical about several years of aging in the cardboard tins and them holding seal once the tobaccos start fermenting. But, then too I've noticed their tobaccos that contain humectants not aging the same or too well.

I had heard once (forget the exact source) that the cans are food grade rated for 5 years. I really liked SPS Court of St. James and still have about 16 1.5oz cans. I usually open one or two of these a year. Recently, I popped a 6 year old can and everything was still fine. I figure that I am opening them often enough that I will catch any problem relatively quickly and have time to jar up the remaining tins.
