Ronv69 I've never been a fan of Dewalt tools. My last boss (here) is a Dewalt fan boy. They could slap their name on anything and he would buy it. Makitas are great and that's the only circular saw I use. I've tried different ones, but the Makita just feels like home. I used a lot of Milwaukees when I was in AZ and I like the feel of them. The Fuel line is also brushless, so hopefully they last a while. I'll report back with my review on my next job. I hate to retire the Ryobis. People can say what they want, but I used and abused the hell out of mine for years. If the impact would hold a bit straight, I would still be using it. But when you're screwing drywall and the bit slips out and goes theough the drywall, it makes ya mad. It's also nice when you're holding a board and a star head slips out and goes straight through your finger tip. Now I need more batteries. That's the worst part about switching brands. Maybe when my next tools go out I'll be able to find a deal again.

I think that Dewalt and Ryobi have moved their production to China, but they haven't gotten the quality control under control. The problem with Makita is they don't have big advertising promotions and such, and you only get to buy their stuff once.

Makita has served me well, Milwaukee also, used to have and still have JC Penny drills, not cordless but tough sobs, Craftsman one time was good, but then went down. When you use tools for a living you got to have the best!

When you use tools for a living you got to have the best! I agree 100% My grandpa had an old metal frame circular saw and drill, those things weighs at least 20 lbs. I still have em, and they still work. Craftsman made good power tools a one time, I haven't used one that I'd call "good" in at least a decade. The majority of my hand tools are Craftsman and I have no complaints.

I keep a fine blade on it because it tracks better than the 4 other BD and other brands I've had. I use them for cutting treated pine, concrete backer board, etc.

Doing triage on some jackets and found a pipe I haven’t seen in a long time. A pretty nice Neerup. A bit like Xmas…

It and the Makita have built a couple of big home additions, 3 big storerooms, 4 big decks and finished the inside of the barn along with countless small projects. I got my money's worth.

These extended warranty plans for our appliances and autos are doing what the health insurance industry did to health care cost, driving the cost up, up, and up...I hate the whole lot. Notice to everyone! Never, ever buy the INSIGNIA brand appliances from Best Buy! They are Chinese junk no matter what they tell you. We were told that our refrigerator was made by the Korean brand LG. They flat out lied. That sucks. Extended Warranty from an appliance dealer is worth exactly nothing. We re-equipped out kitchen in 2002 with top of the line Kitchen Aide appliances. The Dual Fuel Oven crapped out and we were told we are outside their service area. No, they would not refund the money we paid for the extended warranty. The attitude was "sue us" if you have a gripe. Baillos of Santa Fe. Worse crooks I have dealt with.

We have a local mom and pop appliance company here named Spencers appliances, and their extended warranties are inexpensive, so as to make it a no brainer. They have come through like a champ when I needed to use it.

I sent a few pipes off to a "reputable" pipe repairman, one was a Beautiful Peterson with incredible grain that I sent it had "minor" scuffing after I dropped it or so it appeared. To be fair, I asked if he could fix it, he said that he was not sure but he would give it a try. This is what I got back. He stated that the crack went further than he suspected and when it hit the buffing wheel, this is what happened. I do understand the nature of hidden damage, and that anything can happen if that is the case. However, I sent a Calabash in to have a stem replacement, and the bowl was in pristine condition, packaged very well and insured, this is what I got back, but hey...the stem looks great! Needless to say, I will send nothing more his way. I wish mike Myers had not retired.

Yikes. It's a shame you had so many pipes with hidden internal damage. What were the odds?

Might be a nice community service if Charlie could give us a hint of WHICH “repairman” to avoid. Just sayin’…

Got some really bad news y’day. A Texas friend has a myeloma paralyzed Corgi. Gets around in a little custom-built cart, with which she can go like the wind. Yesterday she was playing in their shared private drive and their neighbor’s yard man drove over her, accidentally of course, with his equipment trailer. Destroyed her thousand-dollar cart but she seems to have miraculously escaped serious energy, we hope anyway. No vet available ‘til tomorrow. Totally ruined my day, not to mention hers!

That is a bummer for everyone involved, including the yard man.
Back in 1979 I was working construction and the superintendent always brought his Irish Setter to the job site...until to his horror, he saw the cement mixer truck back over his dog. So did I...that was gruesome.

I'd be bummed about the pipes because that's really unacceptable. The Briar, I see where that COULD happen, but I'd never expect it to. The other well... no excuse.
If it happened to me, I'd post it for all to see. I'm not trying to nudge you into doing that, I respect the hell out of your decision not to. If someone hired me to do something for them, and I not only screwed it up, but made it worse, you can bet your keister they'd let everyone know.
PM incoming though, because I have 3 that I need to send off.

Sorry to learn what outfit it is. I have dealt with them and was VERY pleased with their service, communication, price, and professionalism. I hate to see them hurt b/c one of their guys is not pulling his weight. A suggestion: if you use them specify NOT to have your work sent to that particular guy. The boss will get the idea soon enough. Even better— maybe Charlie sends pics to the boss and spells out his complaint, as he did for us. That would do us ALL a favor.

I fell a week ago Friday and hit my elbow on the brick planter. It felt better yesterday and I did a lot of raking and sweeping and mowed the acre. Hurt badly last night and very swollen this morning. No (new) breaks. Maybe a clot.
