Some Wild Turkey 101. Rocks with a little water
Man, this is good. Turkey had the reputation as the 1:00 AM "Let's do some shots!!!!" drink when I was young, but, in my old age I have rediscovered it as a pretty darn good sippin' whiskey. I can get it for less than $30 for a half gallon at the Class 6. I always keep some on hand.

Including on a January day when it's sleeting and you are changing the freeze plugs on a 65 Plymouth Newport.

That reminds me: I had some Old Forester 1920 two nights ago, and Benriach last night.

Having a Gibson while I watch a little App State basketball (my wife's alma mater)
I made it with Bombay Old London Dry Gin. I like the London style gins.I am not a fan of gins that are too juniper heavy like Tangueray. The London Dry style suits my taste much better.
The brininess of the cocktail onion really takes a standard martini to a different level.
If you like a good gin martini, get some cocktail onions and give a Gibson a try.

Guinness Extra Stout. I haven't had any in the past 3 days, so I don't see why I can't do 3 more.

Good evening. Having a Turkey 101 Old Fashioned. I like a "traditional" Old Fashioned. A little sugar, 3 (no more, no less) splashes of bitters, Whiskey and a couple cubes. Tonight I added a Bada Bing Cherry from Tillen Farms in Maine. Sometimes I don't garnish. I don't care for the super sweet, muddled fruit cocktail like you get in most bars if you ordered an Old Fashioned these days. I don't eat sugar anymore so I make it with a little Monk Fruit artificial sweetener and it seems to work well.
I made a trip from South GA to Auburn and back and stopped at Fort Benning. I usually pick up a case of cheap beer to give to my son at college and stock up the liquor cabinet if it needs it. I really didn't need anything, but Sunday I had a few extra bucks so I bought a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch Select. The prices at the Class Six store on base are usually quite a bit better than in the local liquor stores, so I paid about $60 for the .75 ltr bottle. That is a lot more than I usually spend for a bottle of liquor and I was anxious to see if it was worth the price.
When I got home Monday, I decided to do a blind taste test of the four Bourbons I have in the house.
I am not a connoisseur by any means. It is a lot like the old saying about art, "I don't know Bourbon but I know what I like". I am relatively new to Bourbon so I am tasting to see what I like the most, and find a reasonably priced everyday, "swillin'" bourbon. The kind that is decent to sip and doesn't make you cringe at the "waste" of good (expensive) Bourbon if you make a cocktail with it.
The Bourbons I had at the house are Four Roses Small Batch Select $60, Four Roses Single Barrel $40, Wild Turkey 101 $30 1.5L and Jim Beam $11
My wife labeled them and I gave them a taste.
I have to admit that the first time though tasting them, they all tasted pretty much the same to me, except what I was pretty sure was the Jim Beam because the lower proof was obvious.
As I went through them a couple of times, I got past the alcohol and flavors and nuances started to poke through. I'm not going to get all goofy trying to describe it, but there were detectable differences.
The results of my blind taste test are that although it is damn tasty, I don't need to buy the $60 bottle of Small Batch Select, but having a bottle the $40 Single Barrel that I liked better on hand for a treat is a something I will do, Wild Turkey 101 is good stuff and makes a great everyday Bourbon and Jim Beam should be mixed with coke.

That’s interesting. Usually Single Barrel is more expensive than Small Batch. I’ve never seen a Small Batch Select, though, so that might be a different wrinkle. For inexpensive bourbon, it’s hard to beat Four Roses Small Batch and Elijah Craig Small Batch. I’m having Yuengling at the burger joint.

Guinness Extra Stout. I can do that! Fits with my philosophy of giving up fasting, abstinence and giving up things for Lent.

I’m trying some acid-free coffee. Flavor is alright, but I definitely need to make it stronger next time. We’ll see if the reflux is going to let me drink it.

Nap In The Hammock, or Trash Panda? They're a local company that is as hipster as hipster gets. But at least they donate to rescue animals and provide shelter. All their beers are animal themed.

Bombay Sapphire Martini with slices of lemon peel and a dash of bitters along with Vermouth. No ice. Stirred not shaken. I am shaken enough! "Shaking the bush, Boss. Shaking the bush!".
