Trying several wines tonight. So far, they all suck. Your wines? 😁 No, not my wines, but I haven't made a great wine for a couple of years. Don't know what the problem is/was. I thought maybe the kits are not the quality they used to be, or there is some wild yeast in my house contaminating the fermentation. But the good news is that I just bottled a Super Tuscan that is tasting really good. I expect it to be a great wine in about 18 months. For this wine, I thew out everything I thought was an improvement on the process and returned to the "basics" - so it appears the problem was me. Don't know specifically what it was I was doing wrong. But still, I'm reducing the amount of wine I make - and planning on buying more. So, I've been buying wines and so far I haven't found really good ones. Guess I'm out of practice. The wines I said sucked were all store bought.

My neice had a couple of cases of "75" brand California Cabernet sauvignon that we made a big dent in. I don't know it costs, but I imagine it's expensive. I drink mostly cheap wines, except for the really good German whites.

Bombay Sapphire Gin with Angostura Bitters. No ice. No fruit. Large measure. I made martinis with Bombay Sapphire last fall. Very good and flavorful - at first. By the time I finished the bottle, I was kinda "burned out" on it. Went back to Tanqueray #10 - which is what I'm having right now.

Founder's Backwoods Bastard bourbon barrel aged ale.
Previously this week in drinks, some Coors in the 1936 stubby bottles, a couple Yuengling's lagers, and some Trash Panda.

I, too, prefer Tanqueray but the price differential is like 25 per cent in the Town of Toad.

Happily, I drink so little these days that I can afford the best. And I don't have expensive tastes. I am very sure that I wouldn't enjoy Pappy 21 enough to pay $10 more a bottle than OGD Bonded.

I enjoy Beefeater. That is often my choice as it is slightly less $ than Tanqueray. I Gin I really love is Plymouth Navy Strength or their 80 proof or whatever they watered it down to. Now there are Irish Gins, Scottish Gins, Texas Gins, NM Gins, etc. The original is the Dutch Gin in the stoneware crocks. I have not seen them in a long time. Jennever Gin, I believe. I mostly pour a large dram every day as a measure to preserve sanity. You can only imagine what goes on here in northern NM, LOL!

Having a touch of Four Roses Small Batch Select and watching a pretty good women's college basketball game between Ohio State and VA Tech. I am enjoying both.

The newer stuff waste their advertising dollars on. My eyes. Same with all the new Tequilas. Like I'm gonna pay double because George Cluny likes it. Right. I guarantee that Jose Cuervo will make me just the right amount of crazy. Every time. Every penny over $that I've spent on Bourbon has been a waste of money. I won't talk about Single Malt, except to say that my taste in scotch was adulterated by my very generous friends. Jesus is still my Lord and Savior and I have no intention to transition to anything but ashes.

Jesus is still my Lord and Savior and I have no intention to transition to anything but ashes. And in reference to your situation in NM, I drank a quart of Seagrams Gin daily when I thought I was trapped. I like Bombay London Dry Gin. It is my go-to gin for martinis, gimlets and Gibsons or on the rocks with a splash of lime. I don't care much for Sapphire and agree that it is more marketing than taste that has it popular with the younger folks. It seems if I order a Bombay martini in a bar, it will be made from Sapphire. I don't turn it down, but have learned to order Beefeater unless I can see that they have Bombay London Dry. I have been known to drink my share of Seagrams gin. It is pretty good for the price. In my view it is better than many gins that are twice the price and is fine for any type of highball. It makes a very passable Negoni or sour and it doesn't suck in a martini or Gibson either. (I got my mind on my money and my money on my mind ) I am not much of a Tequila drinker. I have never really developed a taste for it and don't drink it much other than the occasional Margarita. My wife and I did a blind taste test on a few different mid priced Tequilas and some Jose Cuervo that we had at the house, and we were surprised to find the good ol' Cuervo was our favorite by a long shot. I keep a bottle on hand just 'cus and don't bother spending money on higher price Tequilas. BTW, I "discovered" that Sweet/Hot Margarita last fall and really love the freshness of it. I don't eat sugar anymore so I make a simple syrup out of Allulose sweetener. It stays suspended and doesn't crystalize as it cools like many of the artificial sweeteners do. I muddle some cucumber and jalapeno (I've made it with poblano as well) in the simple syrup and fresh lime juice and let it sit in the fridge for a while. Then make a standard Margarita with it, pour it into a salt rimmed glass add some fresh mint and garnish with a slice of cucumber. It is amazingly fresh and refreshing and waaaaay too easy to drink. If you like a Margarita, you should give these a shot.
