Avocados are on sale so I made a huge batch of guacamole yesterday, added some slow cooked bacon… yes bacon makes most things better. Hint: when making guacamole and refrigerating it, toss the Pyrex cover on the bowl and use Saran Wrap draped over like a sheet, chasing the air out, trapped air is not a friend of guacamole…That along with lemon or lime juice will keep it green and not brown. Stainless bowls are reactive to the acid in the lemon or lime… use glass or plastic. I sometimes make a BLT Sandwich with Guac or plain avocado in place of mayonnaise. Never tried putting bacon into Guac. I've never done bacon guac either, but it sounds like a nice upgrade. I usually add onion and avocado to a BLT to make it a BLOAT - unappetizing name, tasty sandwich

I feel better now after a long nap. Still have pain in my stomach area. Could be from Corn-on-the-cob yesterday? Corn is notorious for stomach trouble in the aged. Could be - my dad got really sick a month ago after eating a bunch of popcorn. Then he discovered it's a documented thing called popcorn gastritis. All the indigestible outer kernels ball up in the gut and hurt like the dickens. Fresh corn could probably do the same thing. Sorry, man!

Nathan's Famous 1/4 pound all beef Hot Dog with mustard in a Bolita Roll. So satisfying. I need Kraut. Not sure if the Polish/Ukrainian Market is still open up in Blanca CO. Might have to call to check and make the 80 mile round trip. They have some great groceries from Poland and Germany and a wonderful deli section of Polish/Ukrainian treats. Or, I could just order in online...

One of the things that I miss from working in the wholesale meat industry provisioner was the availability of great meats...the hamburger and hot dogs you just cannot get in most retail markets, Natahan's is an exception...good stuff! A tri-tip going on the grill later.

Waiting for my wife to finish putting the marinade on the chicken thighs and then I'll load up the charcoal chimneys to get them going. After they cook and the skin is crisped, they'll get brushed with BBQ sauce, cole slaw on the side. Good eats tonight!

Feeling OK for supper. Re-heated left overs from two days ago. Well, it is better than nothing and I am grateful for it.
Big party across the road and down a piece, I can hear them from here. Good that folks are celebrating this day.

Lunch in the Village of Questa at the Wildcat's Den diner. Surprised they were open after the weekend they just had with the motorcycle rally. Double Cheeseburger with the usual trimmings and their own hand cut fries, all about four to six inches in length. Must have been a sack of very large taters. Noticed some behemoths at the local market in Questa. They ran out of their special ground beef used to make their own burger patties. So, they had to use frozen preformed patties which was just fine with me. After five days of my own cooking I was ready for about anything.

Just read your post, went to the store for baked beans (& other stuff) & Publix here didn't have any B&M, pissed me off.
Best store bought baked beans to me are B&M. The ones in the jar.

Best store bought baked beans to me are B&M. The ones in the jar. Those are my favorite. I have to settle for B&M in a can which are good enough. The jar bean pot was just a bit cooler. I see the jar infrequently on store shelves.

I ate only half of the Burger and Fries at lunch. Brought the rest home. I used to be able to finish them all at one time. No more of that for me, it seems. No appetite for supper as of 8:00PM.

Fixed a breakfast of fried egg, chipped potato, left over Burger patties, tomato, and beans. Ate two spoonful of beans and called it quits. No appetite and kind of nauseous. So, just coffee this morning. I sure hope there is weight loss associated with all this.

Finally ate something. First food since lunch yesterday, 30 hours. Two pork Back Ribs from last Saturday's Weber activity, steamed broccoli and half a bread roll. Not sitting too well. Gave the left over burger to the dog, she enjoyed it.

Small steak, boiled turnips and a salad. Never tried turnips boiled (or cooked at all, really). Sounds interesting, will have to try it out. Have heard the go-to in Scotland is to boil and mash together with potatoes. I usually do them sliced raw with olive oil and salt.

Went to Benihana’s for lunch today (excellent), my boss and big boss in town, they offered me a position at lunch. A lot more money, going to mull it over but I like where I am at, not looking for a career, just want to work a few more years and I like what I do.
Pea Soup and Oyster crackers tonight… need to rein in my eating habits, and throttle back a bit.
