I rewatched BAND OF BROTHERS last week, courtesy of of a kind friend who replaced my set given to a young student. It’s a good series. My main complaint is a lack of subtitles (altho they are there for French and Spanish) and very poor sound quality. Both are important to me as I am hearing impaired. Ironically, poor sound used to be my complaint against Brit series. But now they have superior sound to many American offerings. I found the liberation of Kaufering IV particularly moving, but the whole series is a great tribute to the Greatest Generation. I have never watched that show...I hear it is great, went to a couple of gun shows where the main character was signing autographs, the lines were too long. I figure when I do watch it, I will have to pull out my M1 Garand and M1 carbine and fondle them while watching. Just keep your thumb out of the breech while watching the TV.

Watched this archived episode of Antiques Roadshow, and the guy brings in a lithograph his folks bought that appraised at 300K.
“It is going to stay in the family”, maybe he is pretty well off, but that would not be my response!😉

Started a new series, "The Night Manager", English made a few years ago. Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie as the "bad" guy. Based on the Le Carre book.

It also features my favorite British tv actress as the MI6 handler. I can't remember her name, but she always turns in a good performance.

Watching Doctor G medical examiner, two commercials come on….
First the woman that created Lume’ that talks about her nasty butt and crotch stank, her armpits are the least offensive.
Next commercial is about men’s underwear where a ball hammock keeps him comfortable.
Getting anti- crotchety in my old age…. I protest!

Binged all the Poirot series and Stargate Sg1. So, are you going to start waxing your moustache? I would have to grow one first, and they make my nose itch.

I love Hickok45's scream. It doesn't hurt that bad. Just 4 or 5 bad words and some embarrassment. Yes, I did it.

We had an old, bored, master sgt in ROTC who “forgot” to tell us about the bolt-holding palm trick when loading the M1. We learned pretty quick. Pain is a good teacher. Being laughed at as you bleed also helps.

The series is turning into a brilliant show. This gal is not as cute as Honeysuckle Weeks in "Foyle's War" or Dakota Blue Richards in "Endeavour" but she has a lot of heart which comes through.

Do you mean the MI6 character, or the lead's love interest? Dakota Blue Richards in "Endeavour" was quite a surprise. Last time I saw her, she was that little girl in The Golden Compass. She, uh, filled out.

Being laughed at as you bleed also helps. Sometimes even knowing how to control it doesn't help. I only smashed my thumb twice about a year apart. I passed the Garand along mostly because I didn't like to shoot it. The thumb-busting was just the icing on the cake.

I passed the Garand along mostly because I didn't like to shoot it. The thumb-busting was just the icing on the cake. Fortunately, I mastered the loading technique and avoided slamming my thumb in the breech. Of course, all my loading was at a range. Battlefield conditions with urgency might have been different. Loved my Garand. Still have the side mount and telescope. Mine was ported like the M1-C for the Sniper Scope.

"Lawmen:Bass Reeves".
A new series on Paramount+. Excellent story based upon fact. Well acted. Filmed entirely in TEXAS!!!
David Oyelowo makes a believable Deputy Marshall Reeves. Dennis Quaid is excellent at being a mean old SOB Deputy Marshall. Barry Pepper is a renegade Confederate Officer with some interesting views on life. Donald Sutherland is Judge Parker.
Two episodes in the can with the third coming along this week, I believe.

I put off starting the Bass Reeves series until we can binge it. Watched "Hell on the Border" last night and "Corsicana" last week. Both Bass Reeves stories.

Thoroughly enjjoying FOYLE’S WAR. Already watched four episodes. The blurb at Amazon did not tell the whole truth by saying it was captioned. Only the last 12 episodes are so equipped. But the sound is not bad and my HAs are frequency adjustable so that I can tune in to 90% of it, helped along with some lip reading ability. Extremely well made and the production values are first rate.
[As an inconsequential side note, I was a bit shocked to find that Foyle (Michael Kitchen) very much resembled my dad, from a close physical resemblance, including mannerisms (and the tightly wrapped personality) right down to the vested suits and the fedora. A slight extra pleasure in now owning the series.]

Americans are often not depicted well in this series which bothers me not but is interesting to see how the Brits view our participation. From personal experience working there I never forgot the old maxim about Americans. "Over paid, over sexed and over here." Interesting about your father and Michael Kitchen. Was your father also a Fly fisherman? Honeysuckle Weeks adds greatly to the series with her irrepressible charm and lovely appearance.

I am into the fifth episode of an English Detective series "Dalgleish" set in the early 1970s. Not quite as well written as "Endeavour" or "Foyle's War" but engaging. DS Dalgleish's character is also a published poet, for what that is worth, indicative of brains, I imagine. Also drives a Jaguar E Type V12 Coupe. The car is the real star of the series. Interesting mysteries.
