That's a nice looking smoker. Nice proportions to it. Congrats! (Sorry, I don't know anything about Kaywoodie markings.) ETA: This might be helpful. pipedia.org/wiki/Collector%27s_Guide_to_Kaywoodie_PipesEATA: In fact, there's your bulldog, right there in the photo from the 1947 catalog. That was fast, thanks Urbino! Seems I should have started with a quick google search but looks like I out witted myself thinking it would be more niche knowledge.

It's kind of alarming how few niches there are that the internet hasn't found.

As a result, there is a pretty good body of knowledge out there. Welcome to the Kaywoodie world! I collect modern Kaywoodies; post 200 they have standard push tenons (no stinger or screw threads).

As mentioned over in the Daily Chronicle thread, here are the pipes that I bought at the Chicago Show today. All three were obtained from a dealer/restorer here from Denmark named Mads. Last year here in Chicago, I ended up spending Sunday night in the smoking tent with Mads. I love when the Danish dealers come because they bring over estate Stanwells that weren’t seen or were rare to see in the US. Tom Eltang bamboo shank blasted Billiard (estate priced at what I considered noticeably low): Stanwell 126 with no stampings visible. I am fairly certain that it is a registration number era Silver S as it has the actual silver inlay stem logo. Also, the factory band is silver. I’ve been wanting to add a 126 to my collection. Registration number era Stanwell Hand Made 24. I have never seen this very Danish shape before:

Here’s a group pic of my Chicago Show haul. The bags in the front right are samples of the new SPC Down Yonder blend which a stoved Brazilian Virginia. Haven’t tried it yet.

johnlawitzke Nice bagful you have there! What does the top of the 126 look like? No particular reason, other than me being nosey. It's one of my favorite Stanwell shapes, but so far I've only found one that I "had to have." The grain on that one is wonderful!

The other side is the same grain as what you see in the previous pic.

Middle Earth Sampler from the Country Squire shipped today. Really excited to try them all Here it is - just arrived. Also got a lovely Czech tool and a tin of Maltese Falcon (my first real tin). Yahoo! Interested to compare CS Second Breakfast to C&D Autumn Evening and CS Bag End to MM 965. Quite an aroma in the shipping box, stoked to dive in when I get a chance

Be interested to hear what you think.

Got a group of vintage but unused with tags still on Decatur items. Two calabash pipe holders, (which is why I bought this) an ashtray and humidor.

It's one of my favorite Stanwell shapes, but so far I've only found one that I "had to have." The grain on that one is wonderful! Here’s a pic of the plateaux. Later this week after I take my "good" pictures of my new pipes, I’ll send you a link to the resulting Imgur folder for this one. I've been watching for the right 126 for a while myself. As a Stanwell collector, I would normal shy away from a pipe that has had its stamping buffed away. However, the almost perfect 360 grain overrides that. Plus, the silver inlay stem logo and factory silver band mark this as a high grade. Good luck in your 126 quest! I’ll let you know if I see any nice ones available. Although, keep in mind that my secret super power is pipe enabler….

BTW- Of course I’m drawn to the Stanwell 126 shape…. It’s a Tom Eltang design. 😀

A couple of XLs from Ali. Nice! The color on the stem of the stack type pipe is great too, it looks about as close to real amber as any I’ve seen.

I had been picking at Ali for months to do another octopus. When he got that one made, he sent me photos of the 3 inch deep chimney, offered me an amazing deal on the two of them and I just couldn't say no.

johnlawitzke Enable away! Especially on Stanwells, and definitely on 126s. I like the top of that one. I asked because so many of them are solid black. I was hoping yours wasn't, so I'm glad to see that. I havent came across too many of them that aren't. If the right one(s) pop up, they'll end up at my door.

I hereby publicly declare that I have the most wonderful, awesome, and amazing wife in the whole world.
There was a pipe that I saw in Chicago that has still been calling to me. It’s been long enough to be sure that it wasn’t just a show excitement impulse. My awesome, wonderful, and amazing wife told me to go ahead. So, I contacted Lawdog this morning and pulled trigger on my pipe dream pipe. I'm still waiting to wake up and realize that it was only a dream. I’ll probably feel that way until the package arrives next week.
I'm working on feeling comfortable saying what I’ve ordered as I really don’t want to sound like I’m bragging and showing off. When I do say, it’s important to say that it did not cost as much as people will assume when they hear the name. I am truly blessed.

Well, people who know my collection know what I have and this is something beyond anything I have. It’s from a well regarded carver from my favorite pipe country of origin and is a carver I don’t currently have any pipes from. Before anyone says Sixten, this carver is still alive. (Being a blasted estate helped keep the price down.)
