Well, people who know my collection know what I have and this is something beyond anything I have. It’s from a well regarded carver from my favorite pipe country of origin and is a carver I don’t currently have any pipes from. Before anyone says Sixten, this carver is still alive. (Being a blasted estate helped keep the price down.) That narrows it down some. If it's one of the 3 or 4 names I'm thinking of, you owe your wife big time! Congrats in advance. Can't wait to see it. Yes, you’re in the correct workshop. Not as much of a price tag as you’d first think though. Still, it took a lot of deep consideration and goes well past my previous price threshold. I may not have many/any What's in the Mail? posts for a while… Did I mention how awesome my wife is?

I will further rationalize the cost by considering that the pipe is from Lawdog and Robert Lawing is one of the best if not the best "like new" restorer working today. So, a Lawdog restoration was included in the cost.

And have I mentioned how awesome my wife is? Sounds like she almost as awesome as mine. 😉😁 Congrats! 👍 Some of your other posts left little doubt about what pipes would give you pause, but that you would desire that much.

Bob (Lawdog) brought nine Jess pipes to the Show. Perfect size and shape for me. Prices are not going to go down. Bob does "like new" restorations and prices reasonably for what they are, and when I retire hopefully within five years, my pipe budget goes down. I used my secret super power of pipe enablement on myself by talking with a good friend who I knew would do the right thing and enable me. 🤪 Now to figure out how to properly thank my awesome and amazing wife.

Out of all the Great Dane pipe makers, I have always had an affinity for JC’s pipes, his body of work is phenomenal, and everyone that has the ability to get a pipe of his…. Well that is a special thing. Your wife has good taste John, and she knows how to treat her mate!

Insane.

Probably more like $21k in that pic. 🤪

My 30.06 and .30 carbine ammo shipped from Anniston Ala. today. Too bad roadsdiverged isn't still doing his Georgia>Arizona runs, I could have had him will call it and got express shipping! I do free 2 day shipping GA -> AZ. Although. My last trip took 2 1/2. Making that drive twice in a row is for the birds!! Beautiful pipe John!! Congrats on that one.

Stogies and humidor arrived. It turned out I did not still have a torch lighter anywhere (not that I could find, anyway). One of those arrived, too. I was very surprised to discover it already has fuel in it. Fire!

While on the road last week I decided to pick up a couple of tins from Smoking Pipes. Well we all know how that turns out. When I got home from golfing Saturday I had box waiting for me. Of course Blondie asked me if I "actually" ordered even more pipe tobacco?!?!? I sheepishly picked up the box and made my way up to the mancave. It was like magic! Those couple of tins turned into a sleeve of Liz, a sleeve of EMP and a couple of big tins of Orlik! Enjoyin a bowl of Orlik right now actually. ;-)

I spent $600 on ammo from the Civilian Marksmanship program, another $500 on ammo through an online vendor and the wife saw the Amex charges. Brian Levine says "tobacco will never be cheaper or more readily available than it is now" Tom Gresham says "Ammo will never be cheaper or more readily available than it is now" We have the tobacco and firearms covered, can you offer up an alcohol expert that says "Blantons bourbon will never..... Two out of three ain't bad...

Two out of three ain't bad... I told my wife years ago that I was going to buy 2 boxes of ammo a month going forward. We were shooting a lot at the time. Never changed the agreement, though I did get behind. I would have well over a thousand boxes, less what I've shot. Bourbon is very overpriced right now, in my opinion. Eventually trends will change and everyone will go back to vodka and Bud Lite.
