If anyone is interested, Erinmore is flavored with Isoamyl Acetate, often sold as a flavoring under the name “Pear Drops” and is a version of banana oil, such as Ethyl Butyrate and Isoamyl Butyrate. Juicy Fruit gum is flavored with the same flavoring family. Just like virtually all fruity flavored tobaccos, actually most flavored tobacco, there’s little to no natural flavoring in them. That is an answer to a question which has bothered me for fifty years. Not enough to seek the answer but here it is. I have long enjoyed Erinmore and will continue to do so. Thank you for the information.

They are in my “really like” category.

That is unique, Ted. I've never seen a meer anything like it before. Nice! Thanks! It’s the only one like it I have ever seen too. It’s amazingly comfortable to hold as well.

Got another pipe today, a unique antique that may be the first briar pipe that I restore. It’s a CPF pipe and it has a stamp on the bowl that says “Patented 1885”. I looked up pipe patents from that year and found it. It was portrayed as a design for a pipe that would be easier to clean. To me it seems more like a calabash concept, but whatever. I assume it’s from 1885 and wasn’t made after the first batch since it seems unnecessarily complicated. I paid too much for it but it’s so Victorian looking that I couldn’t resist.

I have a few of the old Tyrolean pipes, but none of them will stay together long enough to smoke them. Too complicated. I have an Austrian Lorentz double filter pipe that's a more modern design.

Unrelated to anything Patchy, really, and not actually in the mail, yet, but I had to order a new laptop. My old MacBook Pro is on its death bed. The new one will be an HP. I didn't ever really intend to buy a MacBook in first place. Just kinda worked out that way. Long story. It's served me well enough, but it'll be nice not having to adjust to a different OS whenever I use my laptop. Supposed to be here last week in May.

In the 19th century, the old German style pipes that fit together by friction were held together snugly by waxing thread or string depending on the amount of play and wrapping it one even layer around the male part of the fitting, then putting it together. It works great at keeping it together and airtight at the fittings and comes apart smoothly after use.

That's a handsome pipe, John. Congrats! (You better have something awesome planned for the missus tomorrow.) Last week, we went to a high priced wine dinner at Kitchen Proper in Battle Creek and called that our anniversary dinner because she has to keep office hours until 6pm tomorrow night. So, dinner tomorrow is steaks on the grill. She’s made a point of telling me she hasn’t bought a card or anything and I shouldn’t either. Crap… that's like damned if I do or damned if I don’t…. 🤪

It could have been in the mail. I put the beautiful Mastro Geppetto: Liscia Cherrywood pipe in my wish list. I wanted to buy it yesterday but someone beat me to the punch. Oh well. I really liked that pipe.

I really liked that pipe. Well you can probably blame me...I was unfamiliar with that pipe, googled the name and thought I posted a link to it's sister. Some rat probably pulled the trigger!

I really liked that pipe. That's a shame. Keep an eye peeled. They'll likely have another one at some point. Different grain, of course, but hey, it might be better.

Ordered 4 Spanish Cedar trays for my wineador. One arrived broken and, since English wasn't the customer support's strong suit, I got 4 more sent instead of just the 1 replacement. 👍😎

I still have several tins of HH Rustica sitting around and should crack one open this week. Probably not cracking one anytime soon. With virtually all of the releases, when someone cracks a tin invariably they say “yeah it is good but with some age, I am expecting it to be great”. Since I am already waist deep in so many aged blends that very well might be nearing past their prime in the aging process, I figure that time is on my side with these newcomers. Having said that there are some blends that I have found better when fresh (OGS being one), so I could be wrong. I have a couple tins of HH Rustica I have yet to open also.
