As you’ll find out, Bag End and MM965 are quite different from each other. For sure, John! Tried the Bag End today and it is not even close to 965. I noobishly thought they might be similar since they've both been described as "Scottish" blends, but now I see that's kind of like thinking lemon bars and brownies might taste similar because they've both been described as "bar cookies." Haha! The joy of discovery. MM965 is one of my top five favorites. It gets really good with age.

When it rains, it pours… arrived today in the mail was a new to me Jess Chonowitsch long oval shank smooth Brandy. Please, refer, back to my previous comments regarding having the world's most awesome and amazing wife. It also helps that the mortgage has been paid off for a few years and we have no other debt. With a few more years until I retire, do it while I can. Reasonable prices to start plus a generous discount offer made this a once in a lifetime opportunity too good to pass on. 3 Jess Chonowitsch pipes! Are you kidding me?? I don't know you!!!

I just hope my dealer/enabler sells the rest of his Jess stock soon. Lawdog got in ten or twelve Jess pipes from the collection of one of the largest Jess collectors. He wants to see pipes go to a new home with a good custodian. He's discrete in his business dealings and doesn’t publicize his prices, but they are significantly lower than places like SP which want to attract deep pocket buyers from Asia. I highly recommend doing business with Lawdog. You either need to look through his stock at pipe shows or look through the Lawdog's Pipes Facebook page posts and photos. If you see something that catches your interest, message Lawdog to get the spec sheet which will include pricing info.

Another corporate Amex card...seems that there are many in either the hospitality or dining community that harvest account numbers. As it is typically they lack the CSC number when they try to execute online transactions. Amex is on it, They shut them down every time, but the rat faced scumbags should be hoisted for all to see.

A very nice restaurant we used to go to in Houston in an elite neighborhood had the employees running that scam back in the 90s. It hit the news cycle and he lost his restaurant and I believe that he killed himself, although he had nothing to do with it.

I received this today from Europe. It was in the collection of the Musée de la Pipe et Objets du Tabac in Lausanne, Switzerland, which closed last year. I made offers on I’ve 30 pipes from the collection, but only got this one. It’s Italian, turn of the century give or take. An interesting point about it is that it has a red amber stem, which is the rarest amber. This may get moved to the top of my list to restore.

That pipe has some seriously swoopy lines, Ted. You might have to pay Nike some royalties. What would be your approach to restoring it?

The coloring of the amber is something to behold, but the fact that that thin, delicate shank made the trip in one piece is a tidy bit of luck...well done, Ted congrats!

In my mailbox tonight, was a tin of Mac Baren's Symphony, along with the French made 9438 rhoady with the clear mouthpiece.

I have a number of meerschaum cutty pipes, but the geometry on this one really caught me. I think this will be a serious clean and wax job, plus the stem doesn’t want to unscrew easily, so nervously removing it and correcting whatever is wrong with the threading is in order too.

I held a flashlight to the stem and it glows such a beautiful deep red and it’s not quite, but surprisingly close to clear. I’d question if there is enough amber like that to even make that today, at least without requiring a second mortgage to cover it. It did make it in one piece, but only kind of. The silver band is a repair done when the pipe was fairly new. It appears the original owner snapped it in two long ago.

That pipe is a beauty, but I do not envy you as you unscrew that amber! I am sure that it will turn out fine.
