MacBaren Symphony in a small bent apple from Old Dominion, the first pipe my wife ever gave me, from our third Christmas as man and wife. It still has the original luster it had on that first day, back in 79. I was a total snob for acrylic stems in those days, and the vulcanite stem on this guy turns a yellowish green before you can finish the charring light...I tucked it away and never spoke of it, fetching it out only if she asked about it, and bragging about how well the finish was holding up. Now, over forty years later, I thought I was passed such silliness, but it's still a pain to look upon. I may keep it in action now, with the help of some cherry Chapstick to scrub away the nasty yellow oxidation, because it seems to be a good little pipe, and it was a thoughtful gift. Herb, I don’t know what the cherry chapstick will do other than maybe flavor the pipe some. Have you tried a soaking in Oxyclean? That should lift the oxidation and with a little elbow grease and sanding sponges should bring it right back to snuff!

Good Morning! It's 69° with a mostly clear sky as the sun begins to rise behind the neighborhood trees. I have a video conference call with my Dr. from the veterans clinic and the usual chores to do in the afternoon. Getting the smoking day started with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the other Savinelli Venere 128 and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee on the tobacco table. Have a good, safe one, everybody!

The Chapstick is a tip I got from William, it's really the elbow grease used to remove the Chapstick that takes some of the yellowing off and leaves a slight luster...on pipes with less of a problem chapstick is just something extra to do after a smoke, like running s pipe cleaner through the stem. I've hidden the little fellow away again, but when I get some oxyclean I'll dig him out and have a go at it.

I've found that burning the oxidation off with an alcohol lamp really improves stems that oxidize too easily. I don't know why, but stems that have been flamed don't oxidize nearly as much.

Three Friars in a MM hardwood. Early appointments make this my first relaxing bowl today and it's almost noon. Unacceptable! Lemonade from powder is my fancy beverage.
Trinity White Knights papered another neighborhood here overnight. I sit on my porch late at night and I really don't want to encounter the little pukes in the dark.

Good Afternoon! It's 85° with a heat index of 104°, windy, and large clouds are taking over the sky out here on the deck so we could get a thunderstorm later soon. I'm just kicked back with a pipe, listening to streaming smooth jazz, and taking a sip or two of old, cold, leftover coffee in the travel mugga. Currently smoking a bowl of Limerick VA Flake in the Sav rusticated billiard.

No rain yet. Trimmed the basil plants to keep them from flowering and maintain a bushy growth. So I made some pesto. On topic, more home blend in the Thursday cob on the front porch. Sparkling water accompanies.
