Mac Baren Dark Twist in a Saint Claude cutty. Ted, I haven't been a big fan of the French pipes but that one really got my motor running! Absolute beautiful color and shape. It's rich and deep. If it ever gives you trouble send it to me andI'll straighten it out

John, beautiful grain on this one. Does it say "Human Folly Series" on the side of it? Inquiring "busybody" minds want to know. Back in 2018 and 2019 Don Gilmore of Don Warren Pipes and Marty Pulvers of Pulvers' Prior Briar did a collaborative series called Human Folly/Human Tragedy. Marty was the idea guy and Don made the pipes. You have to know Marty and his reputation to properly understand, but Marty would pick some historical human folly or tragedy and then pick a pipe shape to go with it. Don them made some number of pipes but varied the finish, stain colors, and stem material so each one was unique. There were seven shapes in the series: 1 - Paradise Lost - Apple 2 - Helen of Troy - Yachtsman 3 - Pompeii- Volcano 4 - Children's Crusade - Pickaxe 5 - The Plague - Figural carved Plague Doctor 6 - The Inquisition - Churchwarden 7 - Genocide - Calumet Marty wrote a short blurb for each shape in the series. The only two I can find easily are: Paradise Lost - An Apple, commemorating eating just one extra fruit, thereby falling from grace and losing Paradise forever. Helen of Troy - A Yachtsman, commemorating 'the face that launched a thousand ships', Helen's perfidy & the war that followed, culminating in the razing of a City-State and then the demise of the soldiers that failed to sail home safely after that tragedy. You can see pics of the shapes here: www.pulverspriorbriar.com/human-folly-seriesDon has a couple pipes from this series still in his Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/DonWarrenPipes?ref=notif_nfyfs&order=date_desc I went to the Etsy store and looked at the pipes available. WOW. I have always admired Don's work. If I was still working I would jump on the Helen of Troy in a heartbeat. There are three of the series for sale and like all his work they are desirable. Even the bowls of the Kirstin replacement bowls have a lustre about them that make them more attractive than the factory ones. Thanks for the PSA!

When I bought this one, I had the chance to buy its brother as well, it was a touch shorter with a lighter finish, but I passed. After I got this one and tried it I quickly went back to get the other one, but of course it was gone. Just one of my fish (pipe) that got away stories.

Russ, cold and I don't go well together. I become entertainment when it hits 40º so when we see the single numbers it time to hunker down and hibernate. Had to bury mom about 13 years ago on the 4th of Jan with the temp at -4º and a freezing rain. When I get hot in the summer I just think about that and my body temp drops 10º Three Nun's in a Dunhill Shell Prince... More water on the side... Love that pipe! Classic pairing!

In particular, I love that he makes a nice open airflow in addition to making great looking pipes. There are also some Human Folly Series available for sale at the Pulvers link I shared as well.

2019 Haunted Bookshop in a Mark Twain cob. I was looking back at posts from summer 2021 and just wondering where all the time is going.

Good Morning! It's 4° here with a light breeze and a clear sky right now. I have some light chores to do today otherwise I'll just veg out. The smoking day has begun with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Amorelli smooth bent Three Star and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my insulated work coat. Have a good one and stay warm everybody!

And now, to bed.

Not smoking a darn thing. I’m having a hard enough time trying to get the dogs to go outside. But a heat wave is coming through today. Going to be 14F. But we should see temperatures back in the high 30’s next week.

Eureka/ Sterling mix in a Ben Wade Golden Walnut pick-axe. This thing is huge, and perfect for a day that's cold enough to keep you in the house; a real armchair pipe, with as much coffee as it takes on the side.
