What sort of a blend is/was it? Hey Urb! I only have vague memories and impressions of the original. My recollection was that it was a black cavendish blend, just as the match is. It’s listed as vanilla flavored, but there is something else there I can’t quite put my finger on (besides anisette). I seem to remember that the original had more topping on it than the match does, I get the impression that the match is a much better quality version than the original. I don’t remember the original being that great and the match is a pretty good smoke for its genre, nothing that interests me now though. Hiya, Ted! If it's predominantly black cavendish, yeah, I'm probably not much interested, either.

Good Saturday Morning! It's 29° here with a light snow flurry and about an inch of snowfall is in the forecast over the next twenty-four hours. This afternoon I have to make a supermarket run, do some laundry, and scan some newly arrived postcards. Starting the smoking day with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Peterson Rosslare 106 smooth billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a great weekend everybody!

Lit up a bowl of Christmas Cheer in the Pete smooth billiard. Even though it's now on the dry side from being in the day jar for some weeks, it's still deep and rich.

Good Morning Again! It's still 29° here and very damp with snow on the way soon. Currently smoking a bowl of Limerick Flake in the Pete smooth billiard, an excellent tobacco that I always try to have on hand. Time to check the latest headline news and sip some more coffee.

I just got my hands on Sutliff Argosy Match from West Virginia Smokeshop (along with a few other things). It’s been about 40 years since I smoked Argosy and I don’t know when it was discontinued. Upon opening the bag, it was amazing to me that I could still remember the smell of the original and how much this match blend is like it. I’ve loaded up a cob and I’m about to have a nostalgic smoke. What sort of a blend is/was it? I have to jump in, because Argosy Black was my first tobacco purchase as a new pipe-smoker, back in 1979. There was a Regular in a gold and White pouch, and the black in a red and white pouch; both had a ship's captain at his wheel on the front. The old Argosy Black was a mostly black tobacco with bright flecks of some unknown{to me that is} tobacco, and had an almost oily feel to it from all the dressing...But I remember I really liked it. Like Ted said, there was something other than Vanilla going on in there, a sharp ,tangy sweetness that sets it apart from other vanilla blends...but I didn't know that then. Thanks turbocat, I may order some of that stuff; I like a little time-travel now and then.

Argosy is one of those blends I've heard about but never really knew anything about.

My sinus infection gives me no desire to consider smoking....Pipewimp!
