Always get quotes and specs. Contractors really run the gamut. Basic advice, I know, and already being done. Good luck!

The first contractor said the metal roof couldn't be salvaged and it was going to be $25k to fix it. We paid $6k 3 years ago to get oversized screws put in and that would have been good if they had replaced all of them like they were supposed to and used long enough screws to reach the decking instead of just the top layer of shingles. This guy is a well rated handyman and he's going to do it right for $1500. I hope. 🤞 Good move. Stay off the ladder… I know of 3 people that either sustained life altering injuries or died. Once you get to a certain point in life, have someone else climb the ladder. I just went up 3 steps so we could talk. Broke my leg in 88. I was sweeping the roof and my wife came home from the grocer and had 6 month old Sean in her arms. He saw me on the roof and smiled at me so big I that I lost my grip on gravity. I went to get down and missed the ladder. I was on the ladder many times after that, but I gave it up about 7 years ago for anything more than changing a light bulb.

I developed a bad case of acrophobia a few years back. That killed Ladder Bob.

Don’t climb any more, no balance, used to climb towers at Exxon like a monkey, those days are gone.

Got the word from my Oncologist. Cancer remains present in my blood but does not now appear to have attacked any organs. Regular testing required, every three months in Santa Fe. I like Santa Fe and sure wish I had a car that was easier on fuel and not so much effort to drive. My old truck is a great work vehicle and I would never part with it but it takes some effort. I feel lucky to have it since it has given me few problems over the last 24 years.

The weather is getting colder and I am smoking what might be my last pipe until the spring. The summer is over and autumn quickly fading. I am reminded of the following poem: The naked hills lie wanton’ in the breeze. The fields are nude, the wheat unfrocked. Bare are the limbs of all the shameless trees. No wonder the corn is shocked!

I looked up your location as I had no idea where in Canada. I see in KAY-BECK, near Montreal. That is a good place to be. Happy late Autumn to you.

Does it mean no more chemo for a while, or are they still trying to get it completely out of your system?

Tough situation seeing cat 5 Hurricane Milton bearing down on Florida on the heels of Helene. I wonder how Gandalf and pepesdad1 are doing I'm doing fine. Got prepared for worse than we're getting. It's 10/10/24 at 0100 here in the Villages. I've been watching the radar since ~2 pm. Milton has been veering a little more southward on the projection almost every update for a couple days so it's going to miss me. Winds are ~40 mph, gusting to ~55. Rain has slowed. There were water puddles in the backyard earlier, but they're gone now. No flooding here. Milton will come the closest to us in another hour or so - projected to be ~65 - 70 miles away as it passes by to the south. Lights have flickered several times, but no power loss is expected/likely here (I'm told). Just lucky, I guess. Thanks for the concern.

Ron, a 106 y/o house is built strong, has more character than anything built today. The quality and detail are lost with time... It would be great to have craftsmen around today...
