I dropped off my guitar for a neck adjustment, setup, etc., and some new strings. I also bought meself a new bicycle. Just a basic "fitness" bike, as they're now known. Something I can just hop on and go without needing to change clothes or put on special shoes, etc., and it has a more upright geometry than my road bike, which my back won't really let me ride much anymore.

Today’s little triumph… My smoker is scheduled to arrive on Monday so I have been gathering the necessaries. I had a Weber charcoal chimney upcountry but had no idea where it landed down here, if it landed at all. So I began a search and lo and behold as soon as I walked into the barn There it was poking out of a packing box.. Never have I had such luck in the past! A celebration is in order. Little triumphs should always be marked with some kind of festive recognition..

Love the bike Urb my daughter has been riding her Giant for 18 years the only thing needing replaced was the handle bar grips. They're well made, for sure. Back in the mid-90's, my first non-box-store bike was a Giant Iguana, a very basic mountain bike (no suspension) in about this same color. It took a beating and kept going.

You dog. Which one did you go to? We loved 3Brothers. Usually shopped the River Oaks location, but later Stella Link.

Made it home about 90 minutes ago. Rain after we crossed into Texas. Beautiful drive through the Ozarks.

I saw an Oklahoma Joe grill at Scheels today, one of the smaller units with an offset firebox. Sad to see that they are using what appears to be like a sheet metal compared to the heavier cast iron that mine is.
Just my opinion, but for a long smoke and maintaining the right temperatures in a smoker with an offset firebox heavy iron is best, but as Char-broil is prone to do, they buy out successful companies that have a solid reputation and start cutting corners on quality. They certainly did that with New Braunfel smokers.
I tried culling through some articles using Google to confirm what I think is going on, but so many of the sites start off as an advertisement for the product, and sprinkled through the articles are one-click options to purchase a unit… the financial reasons to allow this to take place must be pretty enticing.
Overall, I am getting more cynical of online reviews going forward, I think the best places to get reviews are using the search box on forums of a given hobby to get to honest opinions.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I had a New Braunfel smoker I bought in the 90’s and it was a reasonably heavy well performing smoker. I have seen recent models, and honestly don’t know how you’d keep them at steady temp. Maybe full sun/summer/no wind would work. Probably turns some beginners off the hobby, which is sad.

Seems the Chemo has kicked in on the morning of day six. Feel like I was kicked by a mule! Went back to bed after the pills and slept for about 90 ,mimutes. Coordination is terrible. No other side effects.

Took the new bike for its inaugural ride, down the street and a lap around the park, then around the neighborhood. That long wheelbase and fat tires make for a smooth ride. It's like a Towncar compared to my road bike (more of a Corvette). Definitely still getting a feel for the steering. It doesn't help that the bars aren't square with the fork. Will have to take it back to the shop on Monday and get that corrected.

There's few things in life that'll put a smile on your face like riding a bike will.
