“ Also, unlike AZ, we have actual dirt that absorbs water like a sponge, and giant trees that evaporate it slowly back into the clouds. This is normal.” Boy howdy… Stateside, I lived in Texas, Kansas, California, and Colorado… and you are spot on… a lot of To the credit of the planners in Maricopa county any new projects require huge excavation projects prior to builds…. A lot of work goes into designing underground storage… even so 5 inches would be a challenge. Houston is the place with the worst flooding problems. During Allison they lost billions of dollars and years of work in medical research when the basements and first floors of the Texas Medical Center. They put in giant flood doors and moved the research to a safer place or up. Millions of dollars of musical instruments, including several from Cremona were destroyed. They finally passed laws that required the developers to build retention for the reasonably expected rainfall on the property. Then came Harvey. Nothing anyone on earth can do anything about something like that. It's like if Yellowstone blew. What are you doing to do?

Replacing a tire on a John Deere 4020 is not a fun job. Three guys, most of the day, and now it’s toddy time! Hooray! Might not have taken so long if your other 2 guys had opposable thumbs.

Replacing a tire on a John Deere 4020 is not a fun job. Three guys, most of the day, and now it’s toddy time! Hooray! The rear tires on my tractor are about the same size and filled with liquid ballast. If I need to change them I have to call a tractor tire service truck and crew from La Jara, CO. Not cheap but about the only way. You have my respect and appreciation for your efforts.

It was a Sandhills-style barter operation for a good-condition used tire and labor. New tube. Saved over $1000 that way.

More rain down here today, along with wind from outta the SE, which means it blows straight into my little smoking nook. I'm off work and I can't even light a pipe. What kind of universe is this??

Did you replace your avatar with a kind of posterized version of the same image, or have I had a mild stroke?

Rain is over for now. I dumped 2" this morning bringing the 5 day total to 10.25 inches. Beautiful day here in NE Texas, 65 degrees and clear skies.

Raining here today and tomorrow. The weather has spawned a burst of creativity. I mixed up a batch of Friar's Bayou and started a two-loaf batch of sourdough rye. One with Guinness. My wife made the dough for a batch of salzkipfel. A sort of German crescent roll. She's working on some cookie dough now. Time for a pipe. And maybe some workshop time.

Had to drive to Atlanta Texas to get a part. A lot of cows are up to their ankles in water. But that's where the grass is and they seem to mind.

Wife likes those cherry tomatoes, they put out a lot, easy to grow and we like the taste better than a regular tomato.

We've got sunshine today for the first time in nearly a week! It's about 70 degrees. Once this sunscreen dries, I'm going out for the walk I haven't had in nearly a week. (Skin cancer runs in the family, so I try to be a little careful about sun exposure.)
