Some weeks I participate more than others. Sometimes I just don't have a lot to say, but I do read. My smoking habits a pretty boring. I have a habit of smoking the same tobacco for a long time, and just keep reusing the same old pipes over and over again, so, it's not particularly interesting, at least to me to say what I am smoking. Especially since it's usually only a couple of times a week since I don't smoke when I am working as I don't really have the time. Another thing I've been bummed about is you see new people join, especially someone just down the road from me, they post once, and I don't see them again. I did send a private message in hopes maybe they'll return at some point. I've tried other pipe smoking forums and whatnot, but I like it here, just something about this place I enjoy. May not be the busiest or the fanciest, but I don't care. Yeah, I remember somebody joining who was from your territory. Wonder what happened.
We need somebody from Ed's neck of the woods to join.

Any chance we could be happy with what we have, instead of wishing for bigger, bigger, bigger? The American Disease. An interesting thread will get a dozen or more responses, most of them intelligent, reasoned, and well-expressed. New members get 20-30 welcomes. What’s the problem?

Didn't we recently get a new member from the Buffalo area?

Overall, I think the problem is demographics. A lot of us are, like, old. Most of the rest of us are not young. It's gonna get to be not much fun around here as the years progress.

I understand when people live in remote locations, getting together with others is not an option...however when you have the ability for a few to come together it can really be great...we started out as just a couple of guys and it really has blossomed with the Arizona Pipe club. Send me a PM if you have any desire to grow something in the Reno area, I am betting that a spark could ignite a flame there.

So now I am a COOT using derogatory slander will defiantly not win hearts and minds. Maybe look in the mirror and see the toxic WACKEY DODDLE before you stir the unwelcome pot some more. Let people share their stories or knowledge and lose the columns.

Let's try and be sensitive to everyone on this forum. Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is offended or if they're not. In the end, be nice to each other and mindful of everyone's potential sensitivities. I know I'm not a moderator, but I wanted to chime in since I started this thread. Let's not use the term Coot again... furthermore, we should endeavor to show respect for everyone at all times.

Maybe dancing girls, with Ed and his house rags, would lighten the mood.

To be clear… my charcoaled skin had nothing to do with race, or people of color… it was a friggin hot summer this last year, set a record of days over 110° in the southwest. I am half native American, so my skin is not fair… tan deep and dark.
But it was just friggin hot, and I felt like the poster boy for Kingsford briquets.

"Old coot" is a term of endearment. I use it in reference to Ed, and if there's anybody here I'd go to war for, it's Ed.

I personally identify as an old coot myself. Most of us are old enough to understand the true intentions of the post, or ask for clarification. I don't think any of us should be so thin skinned as to throw our toys over a word or comment, or opinion. But that seems to be what we have degenerated to. I am so sorry you got yourself upset over nothing. Try again in the morning.

I get very uncomfortable when words are picked out for avoidance. Seems like one of those slippery slopes we hear about.
