Went on a grocery run with my wife. Friar's Bayou in the Friday cob in the car. On the front porch now, more Friar's Bayou in the Friday cob. 82, some sun and stifling humidity.

I did some running around with the better half today too. Two banks first, then some lunch at Captain Ds, then on to the Supermarket, and last, a little smoke shop. I entered, coupon in hand, in search of Captain Black Platinum, and finding none, I was still intent on spending some money at the only shop that carries real pipe tobacco in my area. I passed on the 4th Generation and Seven Seas tins, that were dearly priced, and I passed on the big bags of Super Value tobacco. Moving along to the one item I really needed, I grabbed a few sleeves of Tom & Jerry pipe cleaners, and returned to the tobacco where I settled on one I've long wanted to try, A pouch of Velvet, and one I may regret, Dutch Masters Cavendish with Kentucky Whiskey... I'm having my first taste of Velvet now, in a billiard marked E. Wilke, and this could become a favorite codger blend for me, right behind S.W.R.A. Velvet has a nice nutty flavor, with hints of fruit and honey...for me it comes across a bit sweeter than Carter Hall, or P.A., and the burn rate is much slower, and in spite of the high moister level, there's no bite...I like it.

It's 93° here right now, so I'm staying inside. Looking forward to that front moving our way to start dropping the temperatures.

I’ve been smoking my PS81/Perque/DAC blend steadily and I am right now. I’ve got to come up with a name for this blend.

My 1970 Velvet tastes like good aged burley and honey. I have never had it fresh, I ought to pick up a tub.

The mysterious Three Star Blue flavoring is totally lost if you leave it air out to dry for a bit. I left a bowl out only for about 30 minutes and now it just tastes like Sutliff’s base mixture for Hein’s Mixture, Stubb’s Pipe, etc etc. I can’t believe the flavor evaporated off the tobacco so quickly like that. It is noticeably a more whole leaf cut here.

Good Saturday Morning! It's 71° with a cloudy sky here at dawn. This afternoon I have to make a supermarket run and take care of some laundry. Starting off the smoking day with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Amorelli smooth bent Three Star and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee on the workshop tobacco table. Have a great weekend everybody!

Good Morning Again! It's 70°, a very brief thunderstorm just passed through our neighborhood, and I just fed our neighbor's cat, Timmy, his breakfast. Currently smoking a bowl of MM965 in the MM Mark Twain cob while slowly sipping my coffee and listening to streaming soft music. Time to check the headline news.

Happy Saturday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Saturday cob and coffee on the front porch. It's 75, sunny and breezy. Still a bit humid, but that should decrease this afternoon. I'll be moving to the backyard to check on the garden. Today's a yardwork day.

This is about the time of year that Maricopa county residents would be putting the spade into the dirt, I do not have the time to manage a garden, but in a year or two I might be doing the same. There are community gardens in some subdivisions, and while visiting a friend of a friends home, I was amazed at the success she has at a wide variety of plants. I need to do a lot of reading before I proceed though…. mister brown thumb. 😉

Volunteers also tend boxes whose harvests are freely distributed.
