Hamborger Veermaster in the Bentley turnip, with a meerschaum disk in the bowl:
A brandy. A Loewe prince shape is a short squat bowl, a shorter round shank, a similarly tapered long stem. Whereas the brandy shape has your high-walled and tapered bowl, the longer round shank. A prince should be a shallow short and squat wide bowl. Like a pot with a shorter pretty and tapered bowl. Brandy usually has more taper and a fatter and wider base to the bowl. Yours here is a fairly lithe brandy shape. A bit out of standard. Many would prefer to call that a billiard. Some call them “Danish billiards”.

The Author/apple/Brandy/Prince gets a lot of people confused.

The bottom curve is not low enough or sharp enough to be a Brandy. I’ve always called this shape a "low waisted Danish Apple". The Danes have a tradition of taking a standard classical shape and tweaking something. Lowering the waist is one of the common tweaks.

Note on the second, third, and fourth ones how low and pronounced the curve is on the chin. Relatively flat going out from the bottom and then a sharp curve. Note on the Turnip in question that the chin curve starts further towards the center of the bottom and then is more gradual up to the waist; like on an Apple. Here's my Johs low waisted Danish Apple: www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/johs/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=203831

Heh. I'd call it a prince, but Lawitzke won't let me. Who made me the Apple police? Nice Apple, by the way. Apples I got...on the counter, in the icebox, on the back porch, and a few in the pipe racks.

Next time you are in a grocery store look at the turnips and tell me how they decided to use that as a shape. The only less regular tuber is the yam.

Good Morning! It's 42° here with a clear, starry sky and the workshop heater is running. This afternoon I have to make a supermarket run. Starting off the smoking day with a bowl of fresh HH Pure VA Flake in the BBB Two Star Special smooth billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a good one everybody!

Happy Thursday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Thursday cob and coffee on the side porch of the vacation house. It's 42 and sunny here. Only 35 when I first came outside, frost on the car's windshield. I'm bundled up.

Another bowl of Haunted Bookshop in the Thursday cob and a little more coffee. The grill is preheating for some andouille sausage. It'll be part of a pasta salad that my son's putting together for tonight's rehearsal dinner.

Good Morning Again! It's 53°, a bit breezy with a clear sky and bright sunshine out here on the deck. I'm smoking a bowl of Limerick Flake in the Stanwell 29 smooth billiard and my travel mugga leftover coffee is tucked inside of my jacket pocket. Time to just sit, look at the trees, and listen to my streaming soft music.

I have been really busy wrapping up some business projects that I’ve been working on all year which is great, but it’s cut into my smoking time quite a bit. It’s been quite a few twelve hour work days. I’ve mostly been smoking my PS81 blend when I can squeeze a bowl in. However I’m claiming overall victory on what I’ve been working on, although there’s still plenty to do. It’s time to bring back some balance and I’m kicking that off with Mac Baren Dark Twist in an Ehrlich meerschaum.

Had a few bowls of Friar's Bayou in the Thursday cob during rehearsal dinner party, along with a cigar. The young'ons are still whooping it up in the basement. I'm on the side porch with a bowl of Haunted Bookshop in the Thursday cob.
