Watching "The Great Escape" for the 900th time... never gets old... That is what happens with a great story, a good Director and a superb cast. As a kid, I really took to Steve McQueen, who didn't? As an older viewer I came to appreciate, ever more, James Garner's character and performance.

"The Girl in the Spiderweb". Clare Foy's new action, techno, spy thriller. Filmed in Sweden. Entertaining enough but I could not understand much of the dialogue. 7/10.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs ... newer Cohen Brothers collection of short stories set in the Old West. If you like their style, you'll enjoy this new offering.

I feel like her, Emilia Clarke, and that type of physically slight, accented English speaking actresses are all the rage in Hollywood right now. Maybe they test well with viewers?

Watched My Boy Jack last night, Rudyard Kipling’s son who after several try’s gets into Army due to his vision deficiencies. It’s WWI and my wife and I remembered her Uncle Dick, who was gassed in France, sent to England and for 2 yrs family thought he was dead, while thrashing rice in the fall, my wife’s family looked and to their amazement he came up on a country lane, imagine the joy. It was not joy for the Kipling’s, he was killed a couple of days after his 18th birthday. Very sad.

Fantastic Beasts 2 was mixed with Easter eggs and to overstuffed for its own good. Low point was Johnny Depp doing a bong hit to show a vision of WWII
How are they making 3 more of these
3.7 out of 5

The Third Man. One of the best movies ever made. Let's see. We take a book by Graham Greene, Directed by Carol Reed and wrap it around an actor like Orson Wells and a few other greats. Then, drop in Alida Vali. How can it miss? Certainly, one of my favorites.

"Lured", 1947.
This was an imaginative and stylish crime thriller made in the USA but set in London. Lucille Ball, George Sanders, Charles Coburn, George Zucco, Boris Karloff, Alan Napier, Alan Mowbray, Robert Coote, Joseph Calleia, Cedric Hardwicke. Quite a host of interesting and familiar supporting actors from the 1940s. It was like watching a club reunion. Great plot twists.

It Could Happen to You (1993) Bridget Fonda plays the gamin, Nicolas Cage tries to figure out what to do, Rosie Perez does too much but gives a pulse to the movie, and Isaac Hayes plays the Magic Negro. It was better when I was eight.
Aquaman (2018) #Notmyaquaman. The colors are great though.

I just got done watching The Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix. Really good movie. If you're a fan of the Coen brothers' other work (O' Brother, Where Art Thou, for example), you'll probably like this one. The movie is comprised of 6 vignettes. Some of them are certainly better than others, but it's all good stuff.
The best thing about it was the casting. There was not a single mediocre actor in the whole thing. Liam Neeson, Tom Waits, Steven Root (of King of the Hill fame), & Tim Blake Nelson really manage to steal scenes, though.
I'll give it a 4.5/5.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs(2018) 8/10
Netflix Original Film
I dug it. Any Cohen Brothers' fan is certain to as some of you have pointed out. It contains all their signature elements; Unique characters, brilliant dialogue, and their particular brand of black humour- Perfectly capturing the tragic beauty of the human experience. The film unfolds as a series of colourful shorts ranging from slapstick to surreal. Great cast and visually striking. My initial score was 7/10, but any film featuring Tom Waits receives a bonus.
11.22.63(2016) 8/10
Hulu Original miniseries
I love that I do not have to start with the old cliche the book was better. Simply not the case here. Very few deviations and what changes there were, are really necessarry for the narrative to unwind on screen as opposed to page. The casting was near flawless, though It took a few episodes for me to see Franko as Jake Epping, err George Amberson... Other than that, a valiant effort considering some of the unfortunate adaptations we've had of King's work over the years. I gave this a high score because the only way it could have been any better is if the novel had been better. Definitely worth wasting a Saturday on if you like Steve King.
The Great Raid(2005) 6/10
A tale of the then newly formed Army Rangers taking on their first mission: Rescuing American and Filipino POWs from a brutal internment camp held by Japanese forces. I enjoyed the film as a veteran. That is to say it had some authenticity and it's cool seeing the Rangers when they had just formed. The film kind of goes flat a few times unfortunately and I just think it fell short of capturing the terrible reality of what really happened to those men.
