Had a Gyros plate, the best calamari I have ever had and a Greek coffee. Now eating Nebraska made kettle corn. I enjoy Greek food and certainly Greek Coffee and spanikopita. Is there anything better than baklava Sadly, there is a shortage of Greeks in this part of the country.

photo uploadFinally found them locally. A UK staple and less sweet than USA formulations. Enjoyed them for breakfast with a burger patty topped with two poached eggs. 20,000,000 Brits can't be wrong!

Haven't had baked beans in a while. I like them with a baked potato with cheese and onions.
And I don't like them with a fry. I hate it when you get a fry with bean juice contaminating everything.

I do not warm them in the iron pan with the other stuff but in a small ramekin in the microwave oven for the reason you mentioned.

toshtego Caldo de pollo. I added dried chile guajillo and chipotle with a little oil to a pressure cooker with rice, chicken, potatoes, carrots, corn on the cob, and chickpeas. Aterwards I seasoned it. It came out well enough but I made too much.

After our kids moved out, it took me quite awhile to throttle back recipes.... after 3 nights no matter how good it is, anything else looks more appealing.

That corn on the cob reference, reminds me it is almost that time up here. My question: Can corn on the cob be cooked in a slow cooker? Salt and/or butter in the water? Total time?

I've not tried using a slow cooker but what I do most of the time is: Large lidded pot with water and a little salt on a medium flame, shuck the corn leaving one or two layers of husk, put the corn to boil in the water for about 10-15 minutes (may be less at sea level). You can put some epazote (I don't know the English word for this green herb) in the water for flavor.

I love pinto beans. Especially like refried beans. MMMMMmmmmmmmmm
Put a can in the food processor. If its dinner, add some chopped onions and a dash of "Slap Ya Mama" and a pat of butter. Puree the mix and then fry it up (on cast iron is best).
If its breakfast, add chopped up peaches, and a little granola and a pat of butter. Puree and fry.
For dessert, I have been toying with a strong cherry aromatic. Like Cult Blood Red Moon. With coffee.

Yesterday, we had a couple of huge ground-beef patties, fried onions, oven-baked pommes frites and large helpings of Sauce Bearnaise. Another one of those meals where DW has to help me from the table and over to the couch.

Wouldn't it be great to organize some kind of huge dinner for briarpatchers. We could all meet for dinner and a smoke and a day of being accepted by our own.
Maybe hold three of them. East Coast, West Coast, and Europe. Maybe time them with a pipe show so many of us would already be there.
I have been to a few cigar dinners, and it was fun.

About to eat the left-overs from a slow-cooked beef joint. I smothered it in tabasco sauce...delicious.

Tonight I am picking at the cold carcass of a roast chicken, topping with restaurant tarter sauce I took home in a doggie bag from a seafood place.
Tarter sauce and cold leftover chicken is a real treat.

Anyone wonder why "Fly Over Country" people despair of city dwellers? LOL!!!! I am just poking fun. No offense taken. Great idea about the gatherings.

I had grilled beef sausage, asparagus, new red potatoes and am now sipping on a double shot of Jameson's Caskmates IPA barrel aged whiskey.

Chuck Roast in the slow cooker. Red wine, garlic, onions, bay leaves, and mushrooms added at the end. Probably will add roux to thicken the liquid.
Red chard and cabbage on the side.
