Okay fruitcake lovers, tonight the wife's baby sister{ age 57 } came for supper. I broiled steaks and had leftover pasta/shrimp salad and green beans for sides... later, with coffee, we had fruitcake from year before last...very dark and rich ,it's been stored in the oldest S.I.L.'S icebox, and soaked with cream white sherry as needed. No forks or such needed; you just break of a piece from the 1/2 inch slice and shove it in the old kisser.
Each year,at the end of October ,the wife and two of her sisters run a batch of ten or twelve cakes ,at around four pounds each. they make them here ,and my wife gets to babysit them, turning and soaking them in sherry till the week before Christmas, when they hand them out to friends and family.
Each year they say it's the last time...then October rolls around and they fire up the oven...six girls in one family, and they all try to out cook each other; I'm soooooo spoiled!

Some. It depends, as some are too sweet. Do you like the Corsicana Fruitcake?

Many moons ago when my wife and I were first married we shopped at A&P..They sold a brand of fruit cake called Jane Parker. We loved them.Alas A&P is long..I heard recently that you can buy the fruit cakes online, but they are said to be very expensive now. The Corsicana Fruitcake is about $50 with shipping. It is worth it if I happen to have the money at the time. It's over 50% pecans by weight.

I woke up late this morning and I had a chiropractor appointment, so out the door with a banana and water. Was starving by 12:30 so I hit Little Ceasars for a lunch deep dish. Then tonight was sloppy joes. Not my best day. Tomorrow night is sirloin strips. Wife fixed bacon and was about to fix coffee and eggs when I was rushing out the door.

Homemade pretzel dipped in chocolate with fun sprinkle's from one of the girls from the wife's work. Today wife bought me 2Lbs of Starbucks Komodo Dragon and brought home a full bag of coffee in a box leftover from a party at work, about a gallon of Americano style blend. I kind of think this box never made it from our truck to the office. So amped out on coffee with a belly full of stew and corn muffins and munching on pretzel.

More of my beef stew. There is a lot left. So, I must look up alternative uses for old stew.

Wife did not eat last night so guess what's for dinner. The trouble with making stew is you always end up with too much. The what if I add thoughts just add up and the next thing you know you have two gallons of stew. Lunch today is broccoli with romano reggiano and a little lemon. A man has to know his limitations on carbs and sugar and broccoli takes care of that.

I will make a curry gravy to add to the stew and serve on jasmine rice or noodles. Just for variety. Then there is tomato sauce and pasta, kind of a ragu. The best solution was from an English cooksite. They said bake the stew in pies.

Heated up some Korean Ottogi Curry into which I placed a heap O' m previously prepared beef stew and simmered for a time. Served over brown rice.
I highly recommend the Ottogi Curry packs in your grocer's "Asian Foods" Section.

Not wanting stew I made slow cooked round steak, brown gravy, smashed Russian fingerling taters with Romano Reggiano and a steam bag of mixed veggies. I hope the green meat section is better this weekend at La Épicerie Kroger. I can only do so much with hamburger and round steak. The three bone prime rib is off limits until Christmas and the filet mignon is for weekends when it can be properly enjoyed.

Our green meat section is replete with T-Bones, Ribeyes, Chuck Roasts and Steaks. Occasionally lamb. Often pork and chicken but only a fool buys green chicken or pork. It smells bad.

Homey only buys green red meat. I have got food poisoning more than once from chicken and since China bought up the largest pork producer in the US Smithfield all I can taste is salt. So I only buy pork from a real butcher in Chappel Hill Tx.

Enjoyed one of my scratch buttermilk biscuits made yesterday. Topped with apricot jam.
I was able to find "softer" AP flour, finally. Bluebird AP Flour from Cortez, Colorado. About the same low protein as White Lily. Bluebird has been the staple of the Navajo Nation for many generations in preparing Fry Bread .
I was also able to get my old electric oven hot enough, finally. I also rolled, cut, folded the dough so I was able to achieve flaky layering. The result is something which looked like a real biscuit.
