Breakfast at Dennys we pigged out on the three meat, eggs, hash browns, toast and pancakes. I am pretty sure this is the first time we have out to breakfast this year. To be honest we should have ordered another short stack and split the big farm breakfast. Probably make some leftover shredded pork nachos later for dinner.

In a while I will try to eat solid food. Reheating some roast beef, mashed potatoes and steamed Chard. I made a nice red wine garlic sauce from the roasting pan scrapings. I hope I can eat. Just not very hungry, it seems.

Especially their breakfasts. They also make a very decent Burger, as I recall. We had one in the Town of Toad for about six months before they closed down and sold the building to a Chinese Restaurant operator.

I like Denny's, the food is always decent and you do not feel as if you are cheated...they always have pretty good coffee...I like their skillet breakfasts. For tonight, bratwurst in Sauerkraut..carmelized onions, Carrots, apples, a touch of brown sugar and chicken broth...30 minutes at simmer and we should be good to go!

My dinner yesterday...Marie Callenders makes a pretty decent one, banquet brand can fill the bill. There are some decent recipes for making homemade pot pie using the rotisserie chicken from the store...you can really stretch some meals out from a $5 bird, and it is pretty easy to prepare.

I made that a few days ago and have some left over in the refer. Gets better with age! LOL. One of my favorites.

That Red Wine and Garlic Sauce turned into a real interesting Mushroom Sauce with lots of fine diced Baby Portabellos cooked in with butter and then blended with a stick blender. I could strain it but enjoy the texture of the fine mushroom bits.

My wife was pretty adamant that she hated Sauerkraut...I kind of got it...pretty vinegary that overwhelms the palate....and that is the way we got it as kids, right outta the jar.
I followed a recipe where you rinse the canned Libby's "crunchy" Sauerkraut and simmered it in the ingredients posted above....whole 'nuther animal, the wife is a convert.

Many commercially prepared Krauts need to be drained and some rinsed. Reheated with other liquid such as stock, beer, wine, cider. I like to add diced apples. Some krauts are fine from the jar.

Skillet hamburgers with butter toasted buns. Loaded with onion, avocado and what not. People just don't make hamburgers at home like mom did in the 70s.

An early supper of Rib roast with a homemade mushroom red wine and garlic gravy, mashed potatoes, steamed chard. Really runny french goat brie on crusty bread. Five hours later a modest roast beef sandwich on crusty french bread with Dijon Mustard from Trader Joes.

Red banana with some fresh berries. Note red bananas take forever to ripen up. I have had this bunch for three weeks and just now are they almost ready to eat. So if you want them right away best to pick the soft ones better yet find a batch with half soft and half harder. I really am want a Pear and my mind travels back to a long abandoned homestead in a small canyon outside Caliente NV. In the canyon a spring flows from the face of the rocks and a delightful Pear tree grows there. www.onlyinyourstate.com/nevada/hidden-park-best-kept-secret-nv/

Sounds like some kind of Central American Communist Plot. I suspect Daniel Ortega. Pears? The ones I buy in Toad I feed to the donkey. They are not good. Then I received a small box of Medford Oregon Pears from "Harry & David". Pears are their signature item and they are great. I believe they are on sale just now.

Oh, so you all have heard of Harry & David and their pears.
I used to read their ads in National Geographic and The New Yorker and often dreamed of their old "Fruit of the Month Club". It always looked so grand.
