For now a mug of Dunkin Donuts Columbian coffee ☕️ Once I leave Clayton I’m going to treat myself to a quiet, peaceful lunch at Texas Roadhouse 👌👍👍 What does one enjoy at Texas Roadhouse? Heading into Toad, eh, Taos today to retrieve my truck parked for eye surgery. I have not decided where we shall lunch. There is a Texan run specialty Burger joint which is good, IF we can get a table....

There are no decent steaks in Taos. Our one so-called Steak House offers a 12 oz T-bone for $30. No Porterhouse. Pathetic. No Barbeque. What I would give for a "Dickey's" here. There is a BBQ joint in Red River. Their idea of BBQ involves steaming in the oven and finishing on the grill. Sad. There has never been a Pit Barbeque here as far as I know.

...and around here, you can pick out your own steak as you walk in the door. Never had a bad meal there... I recall a steak house in San Francisco, many years ago, one could pick their steak at a counter display and enjoy that same steak. Do not remember the name.

Had a bit of an open house at my place today.A good many friends and neighbors in and out for a bit over 2 hours. In the spirit of fall..We had Apple Cider and Donuts. And a good bit of friendly conversation.I was going to join in the talk, but with a bunch of women in the house there was little or no chance.I just went back to my chair lit my pipe and turned on the Panthers game.

Blue Bell Peppermint Bark ice cream. This is the 2nd best ice cream I have ever had in my life!
#1 is Meijer brand Blue Moon. Other than family, it's one thing I miss most about Michigan. Everytime I'm there I eat and much as I can. I know that some of you northern folks know what I'm talking about.

I fixed salmon patties, green beans, and scalloped potatoes for supper. Pretty tasty too. Lambrusco over ice on the side.

They changed some of them to Black Bear restaurants, but they are still about the same. Mediocre at best. Still, if you are in an area that you aren't familiar with they are as safe as Jack in the Box.

Wings! They look great. Home made? Yes. Spice rub, baked in oven at 400 for 20 minutes. Fried in beef tallow until crisp, tossed in sauce of Frank's Hot Sauce and butter. They were great.

As I hinted at before, they are to steaks as Jack in the Box is to burgers. They aren't bad at all, but not a treat either. They do give you all the free peanuts you can eat.

They do give you all the free peanuts you can eat. There are two Texas Roadhouse restaurants that had way above average food. The others no better than Chili’s in my books!! I don’t care for Applebee’s at all. Or frozen seafood Red Lobster.

48 hr simmered chili for dinner with fritos on the bottom for crunch and a little salt. Man was it good, unfortunately my dinner was the last bowl. Guess I'll have to cook some more sooner rather than later.

Ended up in Red River at the new Red River Brewery. Tried their Oatmeal Stout and all I can say is that it was too perfect. I suspect all their mash tanks and plumbing are fakes and they are drawing Samuel Smiths or such. Further investigation is indicated and I must assemble a review panel. This will take time and careful analysis of several sample pints. Volunteer applications are now being accepted.
Had a Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger on a Brioche Bun. It was good but the meat was too dry. I suspect the patties are par cooked and stored warm and then finished with each order. The Burgers came out too fast for cooking fresh. I want juice and grease dripping, not a lot, but some. Plenty of blue cheese and bacon. Excellent thin crispy Fries in the Brasserie style. The waitress was a neighbor's kid and it was nice to see her all grown up now.
Yeah, I will be back.

Any Bison in the beef? That’ll make it dry. Main reason I don’t eat Bison burgers.

It's all in the name of science. Looking over the listings of Oatmeal Stouts on the Beer Advocates website, there are 2,250 sold in the USA. It is a man's work ahead of us.....
