Call it a "Winter Pipe", "Solstice Pipe", etc ... let's not get hung-up on semantics. I get it and if we were to do a "Christmas pipe" it would not deter me from going in on it, just stating a preference. I generally avoid making any major purchases that time of year because consumerism is at all time high that time of year and that's not something I wish to contribute to, but that's a subject for another day and another place. Also, as John pointed out, perhaps a Tamper (or Cob Pipe, even) would be a good first round to be as inclusive as possible. Yes, and it was a good suggestion worth considering. I haven't forgotten nor dismissed it.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be labeled with a specific holiday, it was more a timing suggestion. I think there are a lot of options available to us, so it's a matter of making some decisions. I can tell you from experience that having it be a forum wide, democratic process will be a disaster. There need to be a couple of people that narrow down some selections and then present it to the group. As this will need to be a forum endorsed process, I will want to be involved in the final product that gets offered. That being said, I certainly don't have time to run it. For now, let's keep throwing around some ideas and then we can narrow it down and go from there.

From what I have seen thus far y'll want a briar pipe. Over on Cob Nation there is never ending discussion about Modified Cobs. Recectly one of the guys did up some Oom Cobs. Using Country Gents, Patriot, Mark Twain and others. Also Corn Cob Nation contacted Missouri Meershaum about a POTY.
Ok I'll shut up and go away now.

I for one never smoked a cob so that would introduce me to a cob..

They can be, and there are the Forever Stems. Maybe thats an idea, nice custom cobs with forever stems. That would keep costs low and still create a cool, unique pipe.

Okay why not a unique wild twisted red stem cob or maybe one of MM two pipe sets with two different crazy stem in a box with our name (THE BRIAR PATCH) embossed on the box?

Cob Nation had a custom plug of some sort made for the bottom of the pipes with their logo. Pretty cool idea.
I'm not much of a cob guy, but this could be a neat, affordable option to start with.

Ditto to basically all that Scottie said. (Isn't she wonderful?) Basically, price wise, you have 2 choices: under $100 (cheap and nasty) or over $200 (by a pipemaker, not factory). Most likely it will be sandblasted, because it's quicker than a smooth. The same regarding rings etc. Time equals money. Keep stamping to a minimum, you don't want it to look like a Christmas tree. And last; straight pipes are quicker to make.

Thanks Justin! It just doesn't have to be the pipe that shows club personality but crazy stems and classy gift boxes or maybe a stand for the pipe.

We could do a bulk order of basic cobs, just some straight Country Gentlemen, or something like that, then see if we cant have forever stems made up with a stamping on them, something fairly simple, Briar Patch 2016, something like that. If need be, everything can be shipped to me, I will swap the plastic stems for the Forever's, then ship them out from there. I'm not 100% on whether or not we could have the stems stamped though, I will have to do some emailing.
Cool thing about doing it that way, is everyone can swap the Forever stem over to whatever cob they choose. Then we start a "Check out my BP Cob" thread.

Some of the cob modders are using bamboo in their stems.

Now this is what I call a great idea! This should be the ideal way to start such a thing. Everyone can participate because of the low costs. Some will be introduced to cobs which will be a good thing and those who know and love cobs are always happy to add another to the collection. I have a weal spot for the rare and collectable cobs and this would surely be one! I love the idea of a customized cob too. I have never tried a "forever stem" and would love to. Maybe a shank from different material than the usual would work too.
How many would we need to order before Missouri Meerschaum would make a special run?

Let me do a little research. I'll get in touch with one of the Admins over at Cob Nation and see what the process was for them.

Hey guys just a suggestion. Instead of using the Gent or one of the common bowls consider one of the other such as the Diplomat 5th Ave. The bowl diameter is about .8" and is about 1.5" deep. It is good smoker. I get 45min to an hour on a bowl. BTW mine loves flakes.

+1 for Diplomat ... Apple or 5th Avenue are both great and have the wooden plug. Mike, you haven't smoked a cob yet? Get ready to need a new rack once you do!

Get ready to need a new rack once you do! That's the damn truth. I bought one, figuring I would give them a try. It multiplied like bunnies. Currently have 4. They are cheap enough to toss one in on any given TAD order.
