That’s the word on the street anyway. Tough to believe they’d just walk away? It’s not the nasty government either; rather, it’s poor quality tobacco. Supposedly it will be officially announced shortly that McClelland is history. I’ve been a big fan for a lot of years. Glad my cellar overflowith with my favorites.

I don't believe that is was simply a bad tobacco crop. That may have been the catalyst for thinking about retiring but not the ultimate cause. I think they are simply tired and want the years they have left to be spent with family and not having to worry about a business.
I sold my last business in August of 2017 and it felt great. A definite weight was lifted and I am loving retirement. My business was no where near their size, but stress is stress.

I understand that C&D is taking over the MC blends. Should be an interesting time.

Consigliere, that is some serious rumor mongering, I love it. I actually know for a fact that Greg Pease is buying them out along with Dunhill, so there.

I don't like C&D. I do/did like 3 or 4 McClelland VA's and about that many others, but I am stocked on all of them so no big loss for me as far was what to smoke. But what in the hell is going on with this industry that they can't tell us the truth. Hopefully somebody will step up and let us know the exact details. I am not falling for another hoarding epidemic again.

I love cellar. Never had a chance to try any of the other ones. Shame that they are closing down.

90% are using it as an investment/money making plan imo. It looks like their gamble just might pay off.

Every pipe smoker I know who builds their cellars does this so they can smoke aged tobacco and not run out of their favorites due to discontinuation of blends. I don't know anyone who actually buys in significant quantities just as an investment. It takes years before most blends become more valuable. Now of course their are outliers like Penzance and Stonehaven, but even those flippers are not able to buy 10 bags at a time. They are mostly ones and two's.

I’ve already tripled my money on Smokers’ Haven purchases. Small potatoes but just like a good day at the track all the same. Can’t say I necessarily planned it that way; however, it all counts.

Except the new thing is to sell samplers, 1oz of 5 blends for $50 bucks or 1/2oz of 3 blends for $25, etc. It is all the rage on reddit right now.

I guess my post didn't go through. My point was that when I said all the pipe smokers I know, all have cellars of over 100 pounds and up to 1000. These people are not buying as investments or to flip. I have no idea what reddit is or what goes on there. Is it a pipe site?

I hate to see this, but it is a changing world. I just found out that I am a Paleo-Conservative. Who knew? I hope that the new custodians are up to the task. I need to go through my list and see what McClelland's I need to stock up on. I loaded up with Holiday Spirit when they released 2 years at once. I know that there's others I need. I just placed a $100 order with P&C. FMC and some I have been meaning to try.

My cellar is fairly stellar and I have bought some I intend to sell someplace down the line; however, I can’t imagine any individual compiling 1000 pounds just to smoke? I have a cousin twelve years younger than me who asked me if I was a Reddit? Like you, I didn’t have a clue? I don’t even have a Facebook account. Reddit?

I don't have a facebook account either. lol The guy with over a 1000 is also a collector. Not sure how much he smokes a year. I smoke around 12 pounds a year and have a 20 year cellar. I started mine in 2012. I still buy stuff if I find something I really like.

Most of the tins I’ve collected will be on table now, especially most from the past five years when the selling price is right. I didn’t think about it that way at the time but life goes on while we’re making other plans LOL.

My children know that what I don't smoke will be worth some pretty good dough. I can only imagine what a 2012 bag of Stonehaven will be worth 20 years from now.

Reddit is a website that is kind of like a board but has huge numbers and covers about everything and anything. Plug in a topic and there will be links to it off of reddit where people will spout their knowledge (opinions) about the topic. Kind of a comment board. I didn't used to follow it but a fellow I know does all his pipe stuff there and on ebay. I started reading it and have noticed this increase of people selling tobacco left and right every week or even sometimes every day. I have seen peck and some others with huge sellers and I have no idea what there intent is. I just know that all of these out of stock blends pop up on reddit almost daily. Someone is buying it out and my guess it is these guys.

Man, I hope this is fake news - they're one of my favorite blenders, and I find a lot of their blends to be really unique. This would be much worse than losing the fake Dunhill blends.
