Got angry so I fixed the toilet. Hopefully that'll save me 2 dollars on my next water bill.

Earlier I mixed my own English/Chocolate and was pretty successful. I keep a small Rubbermaid sealed container and mix a little here and there, especially if it's a blend that is too strong, like my Dutch Chocolate. I am enjoying the heck out of Lat and Chocolate.
Xuan thought I had lit up another bowl of G&H Bob's Chocolate Vietnamese Pig-Tailed Macaque Poo again, but this blend is far superior.
Going to watch a TV movie later about Al Capone's brother, the one that was supposedly on the side of the law. Movie was 1990 and I laid hold of a copy through various nefarious means.

From the mind that brought you ' G&H Bob's Chocolate Vietnamese Pig-Tailed Macaque Poo' comes.....'Dutch Chocolate'! Amazing how the brother gets a TV movie and Al Capone got the Untouchables nominated for a few oscars! I stuccoed (placed stucco?) a wall my cousin poked a hole in (different cousin...who at least brought beer) yesterday and switched the blue blinds for that new sensation white! A very exciting afternoon.

Boy, that movie was a stinker. They got a few parts on Jimmy Capone right, but the historical details totally sucked.
I'll accept either stuccoed (which passed my spell checker) or placed stucco. Had a bud that used to fix my Gremlin for a case of beer, which we would both drink. Back then a case was maybe ten or twelve bucks. Anyway, worked for me.
My Dutch Chocolate has been stewing with a few leftover Lat blends. Threw a dash of cherry in for effect. I'm onna roll. Just hope the room note doesn't get named "Baboon's arse"

Smoking some C&D Lunchtime Blues with a pint of Breakside Wanderlust along side. Also listening to Art Bell's "Dreamland Radio" on Tunein.com. It's a re-run of Coast To Coast AM from August 3rd, 1998.

Time to thin the tobacco sprouts today ... huge rate of germination this time around! Perhaps I'll toss them on a salad. Lol There are 4 varieties ... Ohio Dutch, Yellow Twist Bud, Goose Creek Red and Basma.

This might be better in its own thread, but there are so many McClelland threads I didn't want to start a new one just to render an opinion and hope for input. I'm fully aware that that there are blends that cannot be replaced. Most of us have already been planning our funeral having never tasted Penzance. I can live (and die) with that. I am not saying I would turn down Penzance if I snatched a tin for 2X retail, but that is almost impossible. I am not known in this forum for plugging C&D items, but in tins there are about 180+ individual varieties. Last night I had some Star of the East. I know it's not the same ingredients as Nightcap, but it has that Dunhill Hwang taste. That tad bit of sour that lets you know "they" care. From Day 1 over at Magazonia to Day 365 here (right at a year since picking up the pipe again), I have read about McC's Virginia, Christmas, and Anniversary tobaccos. Heard about Penzance up the gazoo. I have to admit the Germain I received was damned special. But with 180+ Tobaccos, MacBaren's, Russ's blends is McC that important? I have had some really good bourbon blends, Darin sent Top Shelf. No longer around, but I have several whiskey blends, some maybe not so obvious, but I find nothing in FMC that I can't get as good or better from another brand, many from C&D. Okay, whoever threw the ashtray at me, I get it! McC's Holiday Spirit and Best in Show Aro would be difficult to replace, but there are a couple blends over at P&C, which I bought before my boycott, that do me just as well. So, while I am still suspended on Twitter can I get a little discussion about how the hundreds of other tobaccos out there can or cannot slake one's thirst?

About the only McC blends I'll really miss are a couple of the Grand Orientals, but there is so much good stuff out there -- yes -from C&D, I'll live quite happily. Between C&D, MacB, and GH, a little Sammy G, I can enjoy my smoking quite well. And that doesn't begin to cover all the others.

I agree wholeheartedly with your point, David, but I hesitate to endorse any particular blend for reasons that have been stated ad nauseam in this forum and elsewhere. I loved the Frog Morton's, for instance, but I won't shed any tears because there are so many tobacco blends available. Yes, I have some Penzance cellared as well as the Frogs, but I really don't smoke them that often... I like to explore.
So, if I read your post correctly, I think looking forward is ultimately more rewarding than hoarding and bemoaning the loss of McClelland or any other company. Enjoy it while it's here, save some to remember and then carry on exploring.
Good thread.

It almost feels as if there are something like 10 or so chief mixture categories (English, Aros, Vaper, etc.) and something like 30 available blends on offer in each category or more. So it's not as if there is a lack of option out there. I think the worry is that there are fewer major manufacturers left and that whenever one goes under they're taking dozens of blends with them. That being said, I don't want to spend the next twenty years testing out every blend in every category in a systematic manner. The point of having taste makers is in pushing you in the direction you want to go, provide the industry with feedback, form palates, and help consumers avoid bad decisions. In that sense sustained quality and availability are more important than price or variety to me. At this moment I'm pretty happy testing out blends within the English category (oriental forward subcategory) and find one aromatic to switch things up before forming a rotation in a couple of years.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for consumer choice but I'd prefer greater availability of the general consensus top quality products than expanded choice. I'd even go so far as to worry more about the artificial scarcity produced by the secondary market and the cashflow problems resulting from unsellable dead stock of unpopular products than expanding product lines or reviving lost blends.

I've darned near got the bedroom/office filled with tobacco. I am promising myself I am done buying for a while, but someone else here tried it and lasted a day. I believe it was Wolfman . What prompted my writing is I am trying to straighten things out (a promise I make daily to Xuan) and OH YEAH, I forgot I had a tin of Star of the East, Black Frigate, etc. Making this hard is that I love nuances. If there are a hundred English tobaccos that all have different nuance to them I want them all. However, when I am smoking something (a regular, say Byzantium) it is the best smoke at the time. As much as I love Distinguished Gentleman I can be persuaded away with Rajah's Court. I did buy three tins of McC best of show, but they won't get rid of the Catsup smell for years. So, all in all, with tubs of different Captain Blacks, Pounds of 7Seas, and all the English I have I don't miss McC. Nothing against them. I would rather they be here than not, but I don't sleep on a bed of Penzance either.

Dramatwist yes, that is what I mean and say. I am guilty of buying in bulk to avoid an absence of my blends, but mostly because if I have a pouch of something it winds up everywhere. A nice tub I can't lose. I will admit to buying more because of the continual absences of items at P&C. zambini oh that I could have settled on maybe ten blends. Much of my TAD comes from a tobacco being out of stock when I want it, then trying something else and liking them both. I think I can lie low on TAD for a while, because all I need to do is go shopping here in the room and find things I forgot about.

I think Dramatwist called it a guilty pleasure or something of the sort.

This happened to me with the ongoing Skiff shortage and it's frustrating to say the least (the random acquisition part not the liking something else part).

Funny that I didn't even mention Sutliff in the mix. Mostly, I have gone after their bulk, many Match, but many (like Chocolate Truffle) of their routine blends. So, it doesn't really compare much to McC, save that it is an alternate that I have plenty of. zambini as to Brutus, touche. And with Captain Black, the CB Dark and CB Royal, similar to 7Seas Black and Royal, are my faves, though they are all good, standard smokes. Funny that all the years I got around I only recall seeing one or two CB smokers. Mostly, CH, SWR, Half and Half.

I have an 8 oz. bag that I was going to jar, and I can send you some if you would like to try it. It's been in the original mylar bag for about 2 years, and was told by many that it should be good for that time. If you would like some, we will both find out if that's true. PM me if interested.

hubby got a rare seed catalog the other day and there were several tobaccos listed. of course they had the ominous "poison!" warnings on them. i've been curious about trying to grow some, though.

Just came back from another Lunt with the boys (dogs). I smoked some 2010 McClelland Classic Samsun in a Savinelli Impero 920KS while they ran amuck. Well, one runs and the other sort of springs about like Tigger the Tiger. Lol

Darin Arizona totally rocks. We were there in '93. I have a lot of old Arizona Highways mags I love reading. Had some tobacco seeds here. I thought having a green thumb would help, but it turned out to be gangrene and it fell off. Bully the Lionhearted went to the groomer for his monthly. Got to see all his friends. Came back with his tongue hanging out and left me wondering how much fun. Question for the Chronicle Denizens. I bought a tin of Dunhill Three Year Matured Virginia... before reading the lackluster reviews. Should I just keep this tin unopened till the cows come home? Should I smoke it, mix it, or make an art project out of it?

AZ Highways is a great mag ... pics and stories both.
I say ignore those reviews and smoke that stuff! Reviews should be read AFTER trying it yourself so as to not be subconsciously persuaded. A foil hat helps while smoking that first bowl too. Lol

Sometimes I read reviews if I am looking for the best type of aro to buy, like chocolate. Otherwise I usually do read them later. I just wasn't ready to open another tin, but I think I will give it a whirl

The way I heard it, if you like the virginias in Elizabethan then you'll like Three Year Virginia. I haven't tried anything by Dunhill I'd out and out label as 'bad' so go for it. I also read the reviews prior to purchasing a blend. I KNOW I'd be miffed if something I purchased was just plain weird or too strong or whatever (e.g. Russ' Yule Log).
