Wow! Thanks for actually stopping to assist. Most folk would have just driven past. And stop this superstitious nonsense.....remember tomorrow is Friday the 13th

So, yesterday we had a little more excitement. We were travelling down the road from hubby's work when we come upon an accident at the intersection of the interstate onramp. I can tell it JUST happened because there is still dust in the air. We see a Guardsman running over to the vehicles and we recognize him. I pull over onto the shoulder at the triangle and hubby, being a former firefighter, gets out, assesses the scene and takes charge. One of the cars is smoking so he goes over to check it out and then goes over to check on the driver. She says she is okay so he tells her to get out of the car and goes over to check on the other car and it's passengers. As he is talking to that driver he sees the first lady not getting out of the car and he yells to her to get out of the car NOW, and starts back toward her car so she grabs a few things and gets out. About that time I see a tongue of flame coming out from under the right front of the car. I promptly backed our car up the shoulder farther away from the car that was about to be engulfed in flames. As soon as the lady saw the flames she moved farther away too. In the meantime hubby stayed with the male driver keeping him still and calm until the ambulance arrived. Right before the fire truck got there the right front tire blew (it had caught fire.) So once emergency personnel showed up hubby got back in the car and we were stuck in traffic for awhile. I got to sit there and listen as hubby complained about they were handling the car fire all wrong. *Sigh* After we get out of that mess we go to dinner and I get to listen to him having an AAR with himself and making plans for a portable backboard. Ugh Bad things tend to come in threes, and now that two incidents have happened this week I'm just kind of sitting over here like this:
Very glad everyone was physically OK @lady Margaret (I am wondering why some name tags work, and some do not???)! It's good you and your husband were able to focus and help out until the fire truck got there. I hope and pray everyone is mentally (and physically) OK. Take care, and you have had enough excitement for a while. It's time to "chill".

oh geez! thanks for reminding me. now i'm sure the sky is going to fall on me, lol.
like I said, hubby used to be a volunteer firefighter and he's worked hundreds of accident scenes. Since we were "first ones on the scene" so to speak, there was no question -- we were stopping.

I'm glad everyone was ok. Well done to you both for considering the other people and helping out.
I do have to say though, on a forum like this, when I read 'one of the cars is smoking' I instantly thought, "I wonder what it was smoking".

Just left our river spot with the dogs and I'm smoking my pipe while the Mrs. runs into the store. Two new blends today ... Cult Blood Red Moon which will be given away or trashed and Sansepolcro which is good but needs some shelf time. I like the rough, spiciness to it but the Va's seem to need some maturing. Last day of freedom before it's back to work tomorrow ... have a great weekend all!

Smoking a Fruit Salad Mixed with Heine's Blend in my pipe, aptly named for Heine's ... Pipe that used to smell like Baboon's arse. Thinking about watching the Porky's Trilogy after a fine meal of chicken and rice I can't see Revenge of the Nerds or Porky's without thinking about how many crimes they're all committing! The penal code really takes the fun out of sex comedies. Hehe. I was hanging out with my new roomate elucidating him about pipe smoking (he seems receptive to it) before being called to emergency babysit for a couple of hours. Apparently my sister caught my nephew's stomach virus. My nephew was starting to improve and was kind enough to give me some of his cereal. I've had way too much sugar today. The girl I've kind of settled on dating had her work trip this week cancelled which means that my week's plans are shot. So good things all around I guess. I know from way too much sugar. I laid hold of some Creamsicle Candy. Gone in less than a day. As to those movies, yeah, Revenge is one of my faves, too. As you say, I look at a lot of it being almost not-doable today. People acting so righteous now with PC they either forgot or are too young to remember the T&A of the Seventies and Eighties. Booger and Takashi were my faves. Hope everyone is over the virus. I still am trying to catch up on threads and it won't happen today.

Eventually it was just too sweet and goopy for my changing tastes. Gave away half a dozen tins to friends. The Sanselpolcro is pretty spicy and have decided to let my remaining unopened tins mellow a while. I like some VaPers as new as I can get 'em and others only after they have some age on them. Enjoy the rest of your day off, Darin.

Had to take a break from my Franklin Conspiracy book to wish antb charl sidstavros a good morrow. zambini I don't know what time you get up, but you're in my nutty world, too. Don't let the electoral season get you down. My Larry King impression: Denmark! Hello! Canada! Hello! Northern Ireland (southern too, if here) Wales! Hello! Blessings to all our International Members for a good day filled with joy and smoke! And, blessings to my brother in Indiana. Love to you and family Almost time to turn in, but the conspiracy keeps me going. David

i think i may be living in bed for awhile.... ...I showed hubby where it hurts so he could rub icy hot into it (he seemed to enjoy that a little too much) and he said it was my sciatic. *sigh* He feels bad, though, so I should get fussed over for a couple of days, lol! Good grief, what a story... Great, you got the car stopped in time, but bummer about your hip. When the sciatic nerve gets squeezed, it hurts like hell. It does help to get rubbed and it can't be enjoyed too much. Goes both ways. I hope that you're feling better; being fussed over is great and I do hope that you exploited it to the hilt.

thank you, kind sir! i m doing much better, didn't use my cane at all yesterday. hubby did stay home from work on Monday to take care of me so that helped. pipe therapy at the smoking lounge on Tuesday really helped! Today should be a very nice day and I will get to sit outside and enjoy few smokes in my cobs -- they are my outdoor pipes.

You're most welcome, M'Lady and indeed good news that you're getting better. Pipe and tobacco therapy is always great and now you get to sit outside, feeling ready-rubbed and smoking your cobs. I rarely smoke outdoors, but when I do venture out for a walk, I always bung a filled cob in my coat pocket. A real pleasant week-end to you and hubby.

You're too kind. Lol My friend Karla just took up the pipe after years of hearing me talk about it. She was given pipes and a few tobaccos to sample but kept mentioning wanting to try something cherry flavored. I told her this BRM was getting all the rave and that I'd pick up a tin eventually. So, I'm giving the tin to her but if she decides it's not her thing I'll re-post it here.

Thanks very much and it's going to be more than reasonably pleasant. Started off right with DW's homemade lemon soufflé.

well, yesterday was most definitely Friday the 13th. The only thing good that happened was Jason didn't show up.
I got an early start, getting fuel in the car and doing a little shopping at Walmart, then posted some pipes to the guy who tunes them up for me. I then ran out to the shopping center to pick up a couple things and get some lunch from Chick-fil-A that I owed my son (he caught me with some nuggest last week and I hadn't gotten any for him and got a scathing look, lol) but as I was driving I started hearing a grinding noise in the front end. It continued to get louder, and I knew something was seriously wrong with my right front brake. So, limping from there to the service garage by pumping brakes and downshifting, I got to the garage and knew I could not drive it any further. I waited from 11:30 am until 3pm for the car to get fixed -- there were several people in front of me and then the brakes had to be located and delivered. I left just in time to go collect hubby from work. We then had an event to go to that lasted FOREVER, we got out at 9:30pm and went over to the only restaurant open at that time of evening. When we first got there it was practically empty, but 20 minutes later 4 different track teams came in. Then, when the waitress was bringing my son a refill on his soda the glass got dropped on the table and soda and ice went EVERYWHERE, including my seat. We got home about 10:45 and I was ready to go to sleep and get the day over with!
I'm hoping my brakes were the third bad thing and that I can quit waiting for the other shoe to drop, lol.
