Funny thing how some threads that don't have a point can still go off the rails. haha. That's the beauty of the patch.

I was gonna share my day, but after reading the preceding posts, I just shook my head and put the laptop away. How can I compete with that? No karate, no BBQ and no toilet. I feel so...unworthy.

Gonna be a hot one here in central north Florida...but here I am, so I better enjoy it. A/C cranking, bowl full of good smoke, great pipe in hand...what could be better than this? Maybe a visit from Josh would top off the day, but he has work to do with all the 652 kids he has.

It's hot in Houston today, but it's hotter in most of the rest of the US. Not that I am going outside, mind you.

Josh is a good Dad, and that is what is important, and he knows it...has his priorities in order...

Finally got the saddle in I ordered off of ebay. The pictures were not...accurate. It's filthy. Old filthy, not new dust. And a little moldy. And it hasn't been oiled in years. I started stripping it down and taking it apart today. It's gonna take me a couple of days work to get it into acceptable condition, but the foundation of a good saddle is still there. It's a good thing I enjoy this kind of work.
I gotta get me one of those cameras they use to list this stuff though. I'll get one of those, take a picture of myself and show Shweetie. It'll make me look GOOD.

Seriously I can get more pipe info from a 30 year old Ephemris than I get get online but I still keep clicking.
Spent a great Saturday morning with my Milwaukee Area Pipe Society brothers who I've known in person over 30 years. A couple of the guys are my mentors in the hobby and one thru his friendship and trust truly gave me a seat at the table in this hobby.

Well Dave, I have seen your posts and you are the top expert that we have left. The guys with more experience than you got tired and left because they didn't have anything else to learn. I have come to look up to you and respect your opinions. I hope that you will stick around and share some of your knowledge with the rest of us.

It's good to have learned people like you on the forum to help balance the input from all the freaks. Pipe info is one small section of our community. To be honest, I never joined the forum to learn more info about pipes, but to learn about technique and chat with like-minded people about the hobby. However, like you wrote yourself...you keep clicking. I think you secretly like being one of us freaks. 😉

Just finished hacking my way through the cobwebs on the porch...lil f**kers were busy making webs all over the porch...they get rid of bugs but here in Florida they have a full time job and they will never succeed cause their are just too many of them.
Hope all Patchers are doing well and have a great day...as mine will be sitting on my arse smoking my couple of pipes.

Still on holiday for another week. Heading up to Portrush, where the open was held, tomorrow for a few days. Looking forward to getting away to do nothing for a few days.

I'm away too, again, this week. I decided a while ago that just one week is not enough for an actual "Vacation". You don't get to the place where you relax and forget about work during one week away. I know a lot of people can't swing two weeks at a time, and I realize that I'm blessed in this way. It is, however, the one vacation I take during the year. I take a day off, here and there, but this is my time OFF. My wife is a teacher, so we really CAN'T go away the rest of the year. All this said, if you can swing more than a week at a time, do so. It's absolutely worth it.

We used to go on motorcycles but 2 can no longer ride.

Daughter is off to Salt Lake City with a big promotion from work. Free housing and a big paycheck. I told make money while you are young a live like a hermit and nothing lasts forever. Nothing wrong with Salt Lake City other than it is to far from any place I would rather be like Botswana Africa or a watering hole in the Sahara. Yesterday was 97 in the swamp with 80% humidity. Some folks call it global warming I call it summer.

Have fun at Walt's and take his ladder away from him so he does not go back on the roof.

No concept of BBQ or Beer or a Bar. The state runs the alcohol sales so if you want booze you must go to s state run store or join a club to by pass state law. That being said all the beer is near beer. Once you finally get into a bar you might find they only offer near bear and set ups [bucket of ice with two glasses]. The whole concept is almost as retarded as the old Texas Blue Laws. Now if you are a single male the woman with long hair are not married the woman with short hair bobs are. Also unless it has changed you can be arrested for kissing in the park. For folks back East it is kind of like visiting the Amish only everyone is dressed in JC Penny clothes and are allowed cars and phones. I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rear view mirror until I drove out of Utah.

We have many LDS just over the border here in NM. Yes, they are restrictive on some things many of us enjoy. I am always impressed by the way they care for the material needs of their fellows members. If you need a job, one will be found. If you need a wife, one will be found. All you have to do is follow the teachings, attend the classes/services, and pass on part of what you have received. I respect the organization and have read their book. It conflicts some with my Roman Catholic education but that is OK.

Have fun at Walt's and take his ladder away from him so he does not go back on the roof. My wife threated to lock it up so I couldn't get back on the roof....but come Fall I'll have to go up and put another layer down on the whole seam and not just where it was leaking...might start in a different place and the last roof repair was over 15 years ago...so I have gotten my money's worth. Looking forward to Josh's visit...got him some goodies to take home and make use of. Was gonna clean more on the porch but it is hot already and I don't need the sweat or strain...so Josh may need my machete to clear the cobwebs out of where he might sit...but the shed A/C is on and that is where we will do our smoking...hidden from society and the nay say-ers.

I've been outside all morning visiting with the neighbors. I couldn't believe that we had a nice cool morning in July, I should be taking a long walk, but I haven't slept well in a week and I am just now getting my coffee. I hope that all of my friends here are having an equally nice day.
