High winds and dry heat in Northern Cal. Fire season is here. PG&E has notified customers it may shut power off if winds are too high. They don't want another 'Campfire' fire like they had last year. Can't say as I blame them. They don't want another Campfire, already in bankruptcy because of that one. I hope you guys get away without any incident this year.

Good luck Perry with Santa Ana winds if that's what they call them that far north. Ordered four new vent caps for the fifth wheel the sun really did a number on them this year. I need to get them replaced before our wet season begins as we had drips the last big rain. Two of them I patched with gorilla duct tape with a very gentle hand they are that brittle. I think I will pay someone to put them on. My leg is not fully healed yet, once I get the big ulcer healed I can get a couple of screws removed that are right under the skin on my ankle.

I shoulda worn shorts today. Shorts? Up north, in late September?!? I did wear shorts today, it was 97. At least your belt will be here in 2 days and you didnt get the dreaded "back ordered" status!! Looks like filing and sanding for you for a couple of days!

Watching the Carson show and Johnny was interviewing an MD of 100 years old. When asked if he had smoked, the Dr replied he smoked Cuban's until the embargo and RYO'ed Three Castles.

Do you rough in the stem then make the pipe?

@psycholime
Depending on if I'm making a flush fit stem or a fancy faux military style there are different methods.
For fancy stems, I can do an entire stummel with everything drilled, bored, shaped, and finished before I even make the stem.
For flush fit, I drill the air/draught hole, face the shank, and drill the mortise. Then I face, drill, and fit/glue the tenon in the stem stock. I then fit the stem to the pipe (which remains in my two jaw chuck, otherwise the line will get all cattywompus), and turn the stem and shank together. Then I bore the chamber, and either turn the bowl (for pots and billiards, etc.), or rough shape the bowl on my sanding disk.
If I'm doing a flush fit where the shank isn't circular, I rough sand it with the stem attached to the shank, in order to shape them together.

I picked up one of those Harbor Tools $79 pressure washers yesterday and I cleaned the front steps this afternoon. Worked pretty good. Just enough power. The steps are wood and they get slimy and slippery if they aren't cleaned every couple of months. We have been scrubbing them with a brush and a bucket, but that gets old. I'm thinking about cutting some concrete backer board to fit the steps.

There's something therapeutic about pressure washing.

I need one because I'm always getting mold on my siding the south side. No sun touches it ever. Pay some one every 2 yrs to come do it.

I have cleaned siding before, and I tried yesterday on my metal garage and the thing with mildew on siding is that you have to at least run a brush over it. The pressure alone won't work. @psycholime found some siding cleaner that supposedly works wonders, but I haven't tried it yet. The pressure knocks the surface dirt off fine. Of course, my garage hasn't been washed in 12 years, YMMV.

The new roof looks real nice and I like a tin roof on a classic farm house.

Had a hard day, wife too, asked me to feed the animals, went out and fed them, she asked if I fed Crip, a cat that's been hit by a car, went back out and found crip gave her a special feed on patio table, looks like she's doing better.

The next of kin are finally picking up the suicide trailer at 9pm in pitch black darkness. I will be glad to see it gone. I found out from a local sheriff that the young man over dosed on speed. As winter comes on we will have the lake pretty much to ourselves but that is normal.

We have a couple of healthy cats in the back yard. I am looking at the Mini Shells from Aquila as a quiet remedy.

Don't know how quiet that would be but a Beeman 177 pellet and a pump up Crosman air pistol does the trick. Three pumps go away,.ten pumps now what to do with dead alley cat. I love cats but cats breed faster than rats and you only have to feed them once and they will keep coming back. The next thing you know its like a Stephen King movie only Cujo with cats. Cats are killers they kill birds, lizards, frogs and just about every other thing they can. Spay and or nueter any cat you would like to hang around.

I have the pellet guns, but they are hard to to hit when they are running. Cylinder barrel 12ga should cover them.
