I just found out that Frankie's passenger was the wife of his best friend who died of cancer 2 years ago Saturday. She asked him to take her for a motorcycle ride like her husband used to do. She has a fractured spine and will be in surgery tomorrow.

Cool morning the swamp sitting by the fake fireplace listing to music and the dog laying in the perfect spot to catch the warmth and snoring.

i had planned on spending the day at the smoking lounge. to that end, i had planned on throwing beef stew fixings in a crock pot before i left. hubby doesn't like store bought stew meat (already cut up in cubes) he prefers to get a roast, freeze it slightly and cut it up himself, so I bought a roast. Friday night i told him my plans, asking if he wanted me to put the roast in the freezer. i was going to have him cut it up then and i could cook it later, on Monday. Instead he gets the great idea to smoke it. So he smoked it for a little over 10 hours Saturday. when he pulled it out he was disappointed because it wasn't very tender. we cut off a small corner piece and he thought it was good. i put it in the refrigerator. this morning i start cutting it up and it was very red inside, though not raw. obviously the thermostat wasn't working properly Saturday. SO, i had to stay home and make sure the meat cooked properly in the crock pot. i had to run to the store for bread and more beef broth, and when i came out my left front tire was VERY low. I drove home. I have no way of putting air with it. We have a compressor somewhere, but i have no idea where it is or how to use it. So, i've been coordinating between hubby and my brother. My brother needed us to follow him to the garage so he could pick up his car and we could take mom's car back home. Now my brother will have to collect hubby from work, but he can't get on base without 24 hour notice so hubby's coworker will have to drop him off at the gas station at the bottom of the hill for my brother to collect him. Ugh, it's been a long morning. I could use a pipe, but it's raining. Par for the course, I suppose.

Cool and overcast day today in central north Florida. Enjoying a new pipe that Ron of RdPipes sent me...a beautiful Rhodesian that smokes like a dream. Can't thank him enough for this masterful beauty.

Ron, that pipe is so beautiful that at first I didn't want to smoke it...but then good sense prevailed and I fired it up...now I have 4 really special pipes, besides the others that I enjoy...but this one and Cramps's will go with me everywheres.

I was going through my pipes yesterday and I was shocked by the number of first class smoking pipes in my collection. They aren't all high dollar pipes, but they are all capable of delivering a transcendent smoke. I need to box up about 150 pipes to allow the best room to breathe. I want to sell a few too.

well, the beef stew turned out very good, the meat cooked up very quickly, it had evidently gotten to about the medium rare stage and the crock pot finished it up nicely. hubby has had three bowls! he's going over to a friend's forge this evening to get a draw knife made, so I'll go sit out for awhile, smoke and read. now to pick my poison....
