While we're on daughters and parties, here are our two girls, Louise and Brigitte, when they first came here to live with us. Xuan escaped Vietnam in 1981 with her sister and three nieces. The sister died in Germany and two of the three girls came to live with us. Even though their father is here and living near them in LA, they consider me their dad. I feel like the luckiest man in the world having them and Xuan in my life. That's really good of you to share that, @cosmicbobo. Thank you.

Problem with thinking of the Trapp Family is that I am the only one who sings (to many guffaws), and I doubt "The Moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie" is as uplifting as "Climb Every Mountain", nor is it as welcome by my audience

Any chance this could roll over like the WAYS thread? Just asking? Other than to say anything is possible, I have no clue on if it would be acceptable. Perhaps it's a question for the Mods or for there to be a poll. As Legend Lover says we post a lot of gibberish. I'm open to anything that is okay with everybody or most I didn't get the purpose of this thread when it was created, total dumbass attack on my part. It's a go to for me now that you can't find in other forums; however, I think it would be benefited as a monthly roll over. JMHO.

Mark, I think monthly, like you and Ron mentioned, would fine. I'll check with Sparks shortly. We have a few weeks before next month. This thread is really sort of everything from a wastebasket to a goldmine. When I was in antiques I would look for both. I have days where I feel I can't conform to other threads, yet I can drop my thoughts here.
And it makes me happy as all get out that you are here with us. Admission is free and there are no rules, well forum rules.

Be careful what you ask for. I used to sing shanties to our doggies (when we had five). One of my faves was What Do You Do with a Drunken Doggie, which such great lyrics as Shave His Belly with a Rusty Razor. After I had some additional issues I couldn't stand long enough to sing among them. Xuan and I are watching a TV Show called Dark Shadows one night. Some ghost appears and sings What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor. My girl KittyDog, a Corgi mix, started barking at the TV. She remembered the song from a year or two before, but that she caught it from a TV speaker was pretty neat. Not sure if you've heard of them, but the Irish Rovers were one of my favorites fifty years ago and still today. They sang a lot of shanties.

Churchill Downs has night racing this evening. I didn't take to this at first but it's going to be 94F here today and it's easier on the horses this time of year. It's cooler after the sun sets and I'm all for anything that makes things easier on the horses. Fives stakes races tonight to kick off the road to the Breeders' Cup which is at my home track Churchill Downs this year. If things work out we'll have a Triple Crown winner in the Classic too, planning on being there and looking forward to summer and fall racing along the way.
Even a losing day at the track is better than any day I had at work and there's always another act.

As such I'm not sure it needs to be monthly (unless there's a space issue), cos there's stuff that reappears or is referred to from earlier in the thread and that would be kinda lost if it was a monthly thing. What if you're wanting to refer to something on the 1st July that was an ongoing part of the conversation on the 30th June?

I'm just making the link with your name (I'm a bit slow). Do you own or race horses yourself? Two of my great uncles were trainers. Many moons ago I mucked stalls and hot walked them on the backside of Churchill Downs. I'm too big to ride thoroughbreds professionally but almost quit college to go pro trainer except my mother would have never spoken to me again, LOL. Back in the day it wasn't quite viewed in the same manner as now. I've owned several claimers over the years and been part of one syndicate. That's a lot of fun which I would do again in a heartbeat if the right opportunity ever presented itself. When there's a dozen or two spreading out the costs involved, you can jump in a lot deeper water than by yourself and dream a lot bigger as well.

If she had her way, she'd muck them out and train them all day long.

Well, I could be completely wrong about this which is always a great starting point LOL, but I would think previous months would be archived? That may cost jack and nobody ever accused me of being tech savvy. I just thought it would be cool to institutionalize it like the WAYS thread.

I used to really like dog racing until the corruption in the sport became too obvious for me to bear. I'm guessing everyone here is watching every World Cup match, including the 5am France-Australia tie. Here's hoping that Iceland's ultra defensive stance is finally broken down by Argentina. I've got a roast in the oven for a Father's Day lunch and I'm hoping it will be up to exchef's standards.

It's handy that I'm not big into it either. We're not Brazil, we're Northern Ireland! (that's a chant at northern Ireland matches, just in case people think Brazil is playing cos they are playing so well)

My cousin actually rented a room for a month just to watch the World Cup away from his wife and kids...so, yeah.

Lots of posts to catch up on in a while.
This morning I woke up with no interest in the news or any TV or video. Usually I listen to music later on in the day, but wanted to share a childhood joy. I don't really expect anyone to listen to the song, but I'll post it anyway.
I grew up until 10 in a suburb of Saint Louis. You could literally walk to the city limits in a few minutes. It was a nice house, three bedrooms. When we were young, all three Busch Boys (labeled the Dalton Gang by a neighbor who hated the way we ran in packs) slept in one bedroom. Butch (Walter) was older. His first day of Kindergarten he had on a light overcoat, a Sinatra type hat, and a tin lunchbox. He came over and kissed Danny and I goodbye on the cheek. He got moved into the third bedroom about that time. At ten we moved farther into the burbs. It was downright countryside, open fields with neighborhoods being built year by year. Unlike our first house there were fewer friends. Danny (my twin) and I started not getting along, as he was more active and could run with the new friends. I was asthmatic, but misdiagnosed until fifteen years ago. I could only ride my bike maybe a tenth of a mile and had to quit. So, I became an indoor person. I read comics, watched TV, and stuck by mom, who I learned a ton of culture from. She was an artist with hippy friends. In the Midwest we spelled Hippie with a Y. On Saturdays when my brothers would be out playing, I would sit at home (yes, a little lonely). I played a ton of music. I watched cartoons, and would play (you got it) The Archies. The songs lifted me up and I had my own little world where I could see the outside world from inside the house. The song below could perk me up immediately and make me appreciate the sunlight coming in the room, the view from the window, and take away any feeling of sadness or anger that my twin more or less ditched me. Story ends well. I managed to get my health improved after High School and had several careers before I got put out to pasture.
Again, I doubt people will listen, but it's a sweet song. I am going to post a second song that took me from beyond that point to being in love with the world for the rest of the day.

The family went to the beach today for my eldest's birthday. We had a lightning show on the way there but the sky cleared up later in the afternoon. But it was chilly enough though. I had 2 coats on while the girls paddled in the sea and jumped the waves! This is the beach we were at. I decided to snap a photo for my friends across the pond. Portrush is normally bunged this time of year on a Saturday, but cos the weather was so bad earlier in the day I think it put people off. To me the beach looks as cold as I felt...
