Be warned. My singing could have you starting to drool just like Pasta Fazool
My singing voice peels potatoes and/or curdles milk.
Beat that..!

Churchill Downs has night racing this evening. I didn't take to this at first but it's going to be 94F here today and it's easier on the horses this time of year. It's cooler after the sun sets and I'm all for anything that makes things easier on the horses. Fives stakes races tonight to kick off the road to the Breeders' Cup which is at my home track Churchill Downs this year. If things work out we'll have a Triple Crown winner in the Classic too, planning on being there and looking forward to summer and fall racing along the way.
Even a losing day at the track is better than any day I had at work and there's always another act.
I would really love nighttime racing. On our honeymoon, Xuan and I took a walk. All the sudden I looked up and we were right next to Churchill Downs. Had just finished some Belgian Waffles at the Executive Inn. Don't know if it's still there or not. The Downs looks fabulous on TV.

I'm just making the link with your name (I'm a bit slow). Do you own or race horses yourself?
Two of my great uncles were trainers. Many moons ago I mucked stalls and hot walked them on the backside of Churchill Downs. I'm too big to ride thoroughbreds professionally but almost quit college to go pro trainer except my mother would have never spoken to me again, LOL. Back in the day it wasn't quite viewed in the same manner as now.
I've owned several claimers over the years and been part of one syndicate. That's a lot of fun which I would do again in a heartbeat if the right opportunity ever presented itself. When there's a dozen or two spreading out the costs involved, you can jump in a lot deeper water than by yourself and dream a lot bigger as well.
That's amazing. I've only been on a horse twice in my life. The first was as a kid. The second one I was fourteen and Debbie Kelly was 16 and doing the driving. She had to tell me the right was over three times before I let her go. BTW, Mark... I can't count the things I didn't do because mom would never speak to me again. But her best friend was Debbie Kelly's mother, so it had its perks
Well, I could be completely wrong about this which is always a great starting point LOL, but I would think previous months would be archived? That may cost jack and nobody ever accused me of being tech savvy. I just thought it would be cool to institutionalize it like the WAYS thread.
It's a good point and to be fair, it's no biggie either way really.
Maybe let's let things ride until we find a reason to change.
The family went to the beach today for my eldest's birthday. We had a lightning show on the way there but the sky cleared up later in the afternoon.
But it was chilly enough though. I had 2 coats on while the girls paddled in the sea and jumped the waves!
This is the beach we were at. I decided to snap a photo for my friends across the pond.
Portrush is normally bunged this time of year on a Saturday, but cos the weather was so bad earlier in the day I think it put people off. To me the beach looks as cold as I felt...

Good evening, Chroniclers. I am getting ready to watch some sci-fi from the fifties and sixties. This will be a minor intelligence drop, or in my case lack thereof. I mentioned this before, but now I am sure. The E. Hoffman Blends I love so much, Distinguished Gentleman and Spilman's Mixture are created-reproduced by Iwan Reis. I don't know the mad genius behind these blends, but I have not had a bad load of any of his tobaccos. The worst thing I could say about one was that it was so mild I tasted and felt nothing. That could be worse. I am having a field day with 3 Star Dutch and Doctor Bradley's Mixture. One other character of the Hoffman Blends is a distinct topping, mild though it may be. It is not the same as Iwan's other brands, but his other brands have their own distinct topping that I would swear were formulated by the same gentle hands. That said, I finished the day with Five Brothers in a huge bent pot. I am in Nic Hit Heaven. Of all the things in this large universe sometimes it is still a small universe. On Twitter, while ranting, I came across a member with the name Pleiades. I wrote her and said I was a humble Zeta Reticulan and could we follow each other. Well, she agreed. And when I mentioned that the Reticulans were playing the Pleiadians in the Universe PlukeNgork Championships I asked if we could be friendly enemies. She agreed. So, if you see two shooting stars passing in the night you will know that universal peace is at hand. Though I can't afford the luxury of official jerseys and hats to wear I think I can paint a Wisconsin Cheese Head Hat purple and throw mustard on a toga and fit right in. Bully the Lionhearted is still doing well. That bleeding was a one time thing from the bone or whatever got caught in his throat. Xuan and I are being careful with him, much more than we thought we already were. I never realized that videos here may not be available in other countries, but being the sneak I am I can post those videos to my own webspace. No issues there. And, no, Lady Margaret , you won't see me singing "That's Amore" any time soon. I may do one of my Elvis songs, but then you might start thinking that it was me that went into hiding forty years ago. Hold on, while I grab a peanut butter and banana sandwich. I don't think there are any secrets in this post, but just to be sure let's keep this Hush Hush, Definitely Down Low, on the QT, and Strictly Confidential To all the Chronicler Dads, Happy Father's Day!

So when packing my pipe in my office, my wife pokes her head around the door asking for my hot water bottle. Then she spies my open drawer/cellar...
"Good grief, how much stuff do you HAVE?"
Time to show her some of the cellars on this site.
oh ho! that might backfire on you, lol

Good point. Time to dig a hole under the carpet...

Open her closets where she keeps her clothing and put that same question to her.
Here, it worked like a charm.
Thankfully she's not like that. I could get at her about the dogs though. She took in a rescue dog a couple of years back and it's cost us a fortune...but then we gave her a better life for 4 years before she died a couple of months ago - so it's still not the same. Dammit.

May be another addition to the family soon. Birddogged a little red cattle dog about two hours south of here that needs a home. Everybody wants the blues, reds not so much. Just have go take a look. Reds tend to be more aggressive so I’m told which wouldn’t be good in the new shack but every pup has their own personality and the owner says he’s people friendly. Only way to find out is make the trip. Going Thursday.

a lot of it is to do with the upbringing too. I hope you can give the little tyke a good wee home.

Thanks man. My understanding is the reds come from a recessive gene at birth so they are singled out by their siblings for harsher treatment and therefore need to become more aggressive to hang with the pack. I’ve seen some beautiful reds but they don’t normally tend to fair well in many human circles where they aren’t used for actual herding duties. Should be fun.

Our Aussie is a red merle. The whole litter was red, so I don't think there was an aggression issue there. He loves people, but he has a temperament a lot like a redheaded human. So, just a warning there, lol. We love him, but if we ever got another we would only get a blue

Thanks Maggie. Zach was a blue, my best buddy for almost 16 years. I tell people the last time I woke up without him I was still in my 30s and had a bunch of hair on my head (true but just barely on both counts).
I probably only have enough gas left in the tank for one more. A red would be fine if he/she has a good personality. I may even get out the backpacking gear again with a young one. Zach loved going backpacking and had his own pack when he was younger. Real bonding experience that.

Lady Margaret , what were you saying about redheads? @10furlongs , I really hope this works out for you. It sounds like it may. When we got Bully, Xuan said to keep him out of my bed/office. I missed KittyDog in that regard. She was always here. Well, I started sneaking Bully the Lionhearted in here and it's too late now for her to stop him. Legend Lover , The video below is one of my faves with you in mind. I think it was done in Ireland, but I have no clue what part. I have it on my webspace, so you'll have no issues seeing it.
Two days ago, on Father's Day, I found out The Old Colonel, Dad, has Alzheimer's. He's 91 and has been getting very forgetful, so I shouldn't be surprised. Just sad that he made it so long being one of the sharpest people I know and came down with this in his last years. Since I don't get out of the house, the time I saw him in January will be the last time I see him.

LOVED the video.
