It was a cracking day today on the North Coast. Cold but sunny, but the waves were powerful... Beautiful! Do you have any wind caps for your pipes? They are cheap and effective.

That IS beautiful. I prefer rocky beaches over sandy beaches.

It looks like the one I wanted is out. It has the 6 speed trans instead of the 8 speed. 😕 I found one with the V6/8 speed with leather seats and matching red trim and bumpers. Not crazy about the look.

Until you look up the problems with the new 8 speed made by ZF. Then you can research what a POS the ZF manual transmissions were for Ford. Been there done that and bought the front bearing cover twice. Of course GM and Ford worked on the new 10 speed together and that is strong enough to go behind their diesels while kicking Allision to the curb.

I loved my ZF transmission,as do all the guys on the Ram forums. You sir, are Debbie Downer.

Ok I will take that but reserve the right to say I told you so for a period of one year outside of warranty. I will also personally buy your first air freshener for your new ride as long as you do not go with pine tree smell.

I know that the 9 speed models are problem prone in the jeeps, but that's part of a huge list of problems with jeeps. Just what you want when you are out of cell phone range on an unnamed road.

Reading how Ronv69 loved his truck, I went to the car wash and gave my 96 GMC a bath. I know what Ron means when he states his bond with his truck.

I have a ZF 6-Speed in my truck. It has been excellent. No complaints. The gates are a little close so I have to pay close attention when shifting.
Eight, Nine and Ten Speeds? Wow! Maybe just put in a Road Ranger 13 Speed???

Ron, thanks for the link to the picture. Legend- beautiful scenery
Insomnia wins again 3:13AM after taking 900mg of Gabapentin for shoulder pain ( doctor just prescribed Tramadol but I'm not taking it till Monday) as I have a cigar event to go to tomorrow and I have a history of getting sick on most of that sh!t. Also took 2 of the PM pills, but they are worthless too.

Been up since 3:30 and been like this since the time change. Went out and got some clear coat on a couple projects I've been working on and heading back out to clean a couple pipes I got last week. Will head out to breakfast and bring some more chairs home to break down for the nice oak they're made from.

I had insomnia for a long time prior to finally getting a CPAP machine and a subscription to Ambien. There is little worse than night pain.

So, I went to Lowe's to get a new 3/8" drive socket set since I left mine at my dads... when I checked out, the girl at the register asked if I was using it to pull teeth, and she was dead serious.
I paid and didnt say a word.
I'm glad I never have to go in there and ask for help with something.

I hate the big box home improvement stores....I still have never gotten how if you park by the entrance, the cash register exits are at the other end of the building...that keeps me going to Ace hardware for quick in and out stuff....A home improvement run shouldn't be a hiking trip. I hate auto parts stores since all the mom and pop stores are gone.

And I've been to both today. Thankfully the guy that knows what hes doing was there today. Lowes... not so much.
Our local hardware store is about 25-30% higher than Lowe's. I HATE lowes and our closest Home Depot is 30 mins away.

Just got home from the drs office again because the boy developed a rash. Its the "hand, foot and mouth" virus or whatever. The last 24+ hours have been hell. Almost no sleep for either of us. The rash has him so he cant get comfortable at all. Ahhhh Josh. I know you'll take good care of that child. It's always painful when one of your children is sick.

Yeah, I don't go into Best Buy or Lowes expecting anyone working there to know more about anything they sell than I do. Same with cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, etc. Remember that the median IQ in the USA is 100. If they knew more they would have better jobs. I have had to pull out my business card with my position and multiple certs in Best Buy before to get the kid to stop trying to sell me a crappy computer. And then I had to explain the letters to him.

We have an Ace Hardware about 10 miles from our home...prices are about 10-20% higher...BUT customer service starts as you walk in the door and they stay with you until you reach the check out counter...knowledgeable, friendly, can give good advice if you aren't sure what you need...that to me is worth the extra I pay...never have I been let down in 20 years of using them.

Just got finished driving a 17 Ram in Baytown. It's the Quad Cab and doesn't feel any longer than the regular cab. The V6 doesn't seem as peppy, though.

I really like the local Ace. Yep, the customer service is first class. But it's three times as far as the Depot. Now my cousin's lumber yard in Moreauville La is a little different. You walk in the door and he yells "What do you want"! Of course you can't find anything so self service is out of the question.

I have been feeling my mortality lately. I ain't afraid of dieing, but getting hurt sucks. So on the drive this morning I was blasting BOC, "Don't Fear the Reaper". It was therapeutic.

I go to an Ace hardware, the owner is the Son of my trade school auto mech teacher. In my last year of school I had all my credits to graduate so they let me go to trade school for half a day. They are knowledgeable, even sell the Zero turn mower that I buy, bought my last one from him, I cut a lot of grass so I wear em out fast. We are redoing the deck in back, told wife go a regular lumber yard, they will load lumber for you, and the price may just be .50 cents a board higher, so she did and was amazed at the personal service. I have to explain that my Son and wife have the deck redoing project.

We still have an independent auto parts store in Toad. "Zeke's". Zeke is retired but his son, Tracy, does an excellent job. He hires guys who know wrenching, know pain and know the difference. So, few mistakes on part orders. Lots of advice. Oh, and he has a reasonably competent machine shop in house.
I do not frequent the big box building supply stores in Santa Fe any more. Last time, I was in the electrical department looking for stuff and asked one of the clerks about something. He replied, "How would I know? I was a Plumber".
Then there was the time they called me to say the windows I ordered were in. So, I drove the 134 miles to their store only to be asked, "Windows? What windows?" I was deeply annoyed. Interestingly, the manager I dealt with then (2004) now works in Toad and he remembers me fondly.
I spent much of my youth in neighborhood auto parts stores looking for parts for old trucks and cars. I developed an appreciation of the knowledge and patience of those guys behind the counter.
