Question for the Chroniclers I have probably fifteen tins of items I have not tried yet, most with 6 months to 1 year on. They are some of the more exotic choices, I think. Hal o the Wynd, C&D Strathspey, Bagpiper's Dream, a few of the C&D "Drive" blends, a couple tins of Dobie (STP - New production), and some I probably forgot I have. Now the question, which Chroniclers are smart enough to already figure: Should I go ahead and just open them, not regarding the amount of open tins I already have? Thoughts: I really want to try many of them. I can keep them moist with wax paper under the tin lid. I don't think I have ten years left in me to think about letting them age that long, and I feel a year is not bad. I don't have a lot of reasons to not open them, save that I have more open tins. That might be a blessing as it gives me many more to draw a bowl from each day. In the way of Hal o the Wynd, like some GLP blends, I bought this because don was smoking it. Wolfman had been going to town on GLP for quite a while and those were enjoyable smokes. I feel I could get some joy out of Hal, knowing that one of my buds here was enjoying it. You guys getting my drift? Pop them, like Lady Margaret said. You don't know what tomorrow brings. All of my tins are open except for my tin of sweet Kilarney, but that will be rectified later today hopefully.

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes for Audrey. They got her into a back brace and are hoping to not have to fuse her spine. If she lays off the sauce she can completely heal. Her kidneys are bruised and not working but they think it's temporary. Had to put in a chest tube. She will be bedridden for at least 10 weeks, so we are hoping that it will double as a recovery from the substance abuse. The driver of the car she was in wasn't drinking. It was sideswiped by a drunk driver who knocked it into the concrete barrier and across the fast lane, where a loaded semi hit it at over 70 mph. The guys are out of the hospital. Bad way to start a marriage. Few things are so bad, that they aren't at least good for something. 10 weeks ought to wean her off the alcohol, when she can't get at the stuff. A steady stream of speedy-recovery-thoughts going her way.

So, David, knock yourself out in a tin-popping orgy.

Wow...August already. Why is it that when you are working time draggs...but when you retire...whew...time flies by like nothing I've ever seen. Raining here in north Fla. all day and all last night...getting moldy here. Supposed to be this way all week. Good thing I've got nothing to do except smoke my pipe and enjoy life such as it is.

@cosmicbobo I'd suggest keeping the tins closed until David manages to finish all his open tins. I don't know if I.P. Freely and the rest of that lot have any open tins themselves that would excuse them from openning the new ones.

Yeah, down the drain and can't find the stopper. Well, for all its' issues as you get older...nothing beats being retired. Just knowing that I can roll over and go back to sleep (when it isn't elusive)...it's a wonderful feeling...besides the pain, that is.

YeahβAugust already. And the time does fly when youβre retired. Wonder how I ever had time for work. But I smoke my pipe, read, relax, and am fully in love with life! Right now Iβm sitting here waiting for an MRI. Thatβs the only downside of getting older. Nobody ever told me that my back would go out on me. But there it is, and you play the hand youβre dealt.

At the dentist for an estimate. About to blow up the trip to France. Good luck. I just finished a long spree of bi weekly dental visits. Started with getting wisdom teeth finally taken out. I couldn't reach them with a tooth brush so they went bad, moved to the 2 molars in front of those and they started breaking and going bad. Lots of work in between. Ended with a "planning and scaling" of the roots of my teeth due to gum disease from 20 years of not going to the dentist. Luckily, eventhough I didnt go to the dentist for so long, I brushed and flossed daily. Because of that, the rest of my teeth are good. The gum disease was treated and my gums have healed up perfectly. All paid out of pocket because I dont have insurance. Lots of money gone. Now that it's over, I feel like I'm rich. Long story short, the dentist is expensive, but worth every penny to go to regular checkups.

My exact thoughts everytime they told me the total. And still need to have 3 root canals redone on my front teeth. I caught a rock in the mouth when I was about 10, knocked 3 teeth out. The root canals from 25 years ago are "failing." Grand total for 3 root canals and new porcelain crowns: $7400 .... one day... On a better note, i just went through and arranged my tobacco between cellar and smoking. I'm pretty sure I have enough tobacco already for the next 5 years, if not more. Also, I have a lot of jars that I'm currently smoking which are almost empty. That means there is room for MORE!

I haven't gone to the dentist for a few years because the last 3 have charged me thousands of dollars and each made things worse. Trip today was a waste of time and money. $hit eating grin while he tells me that I can't afford to get my teeth fixed.

That's BS! They dont HAVE to charge what they do, they choose to. Sure there's overhead, but my last few visits have averaged out over $1000 per hour. That's 20-30 minute visits are 450-550 per visit.

I'm now classifying dentists in the same category as slip and fall attorneys.
