Stopped by the bookstore today to get one of my kids a book for school. Ended up buying all of these for myself for $5-$10 each. I lost all of my books during my first divorce. They got "misplaced."

I love books, as a reader and a collector. When I would take the wife and kids shopping, I would tell them when they are done to find me in the bookstore or the deli that sold imported beer

I didn't realize how much I have read in the past until today while looking around. So many books that I completely forgot about.
Looks like sp isnt going to be the only thing draining my wallet.

… books are great...as an avid reader all my life, I don't go many places without a book or my Kindle... I have had several iterations of iPod Touch, iPad, Nook, Google Tablets, and Kindle. Though I hack the Kindle to be able to use Google Play Store on it, I love the functionality and sturdiness of the Kindle. Also, Peter, if you have not checked one out, the Paper Whites are really cool. It does one thing: The very thing I wanted from Palm Pilots, iPaq Windows CE, etc. It reads books... and does it well.

Actually, I was going to change it to "it displays books", but would have had to add a few words and figured it reads books sound like what my brain approved of. Anyway, glad to know someone else with one. It was getting lonely here at the top of Everest under my tin umbrella

I have seven thousand books to choose from A man after my own heart. Dad only smoked SWR and Muriel Corona Cigars. Now I know why he liked SWR so much. My dad smoked SWR and Dutch Masters candelas.

antb you know I am thinking about you when I spend all afternoon puffing bowl after bowl of SWR. Right now it's in my slowroll stack. Dad only smoked SWR and Muriel Corona Cigars. Now I know why he liked SWR so much. My dad smoked SWR and Dutch Masters candelas. I liked the Dutch Masters when I was younger. Honestly, I am happy with a Swisher's Sweet or a Rigoletto Black Jack, though I don't smoke any cigars often. Xuan is finally used to the pipes so I will stick with them

Got everything from Mysteries to Zane Grey First eds. Asian-American History, Western History, African American History. Had some Native American Histories, but the box they were in got flooded. Cook books, Bartender's guides. Etiquette guides, which has something to do with my Avatar. I have a few Brooks Brothers Books. One of them describes in detail the thought behind Edward VIII's mixing plaids with stripes and making it look good. That impressed me. Oh, and thousands of comics and old sci-fi magazines, mostly pre-1960

So does his grandnephew, Prince Charles. Oh, and thousands of comics and old sci-fi magazines, mostly pre-1960 Nice. I favor (favour for LL ) the Marvel Golden/Silver Age stuff.

Edward VIII and often I believe Fred Astaire copied him

Pretty sure it's the same guy, but he sure got some tatts. Or, those are temporary. Story behind it is his wife had/has cancer (not sure how it turned out). He did that to make her laugh each day. I don't get the same reaction out of Xuan You've gotta switch it up a bit!

I've read 4 of them (Alice in Wonderland which is my all time favorite, Inferno, Moby Dick and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). I just wanted them for my collection.
I've read part of Sherlock Holmes, but not all of it. I'm really looking forward to the fall.

You're lucky. My Canon F1 with six lenses, my Speed Graphic, and a Yashicamat 124G got misplaced, along with about 2 grand worth of tools. My only consolation is that the new boyfriend would have to figure out how those Whitworth wrenches worked.

Audrey had a bad night after the surgery. She almost arrested several times. They didn't get to do the traecheotomy so they are going to try again today.

I was on the front porch yesterday. It was starting to rain and I was taking advantage of the cooler weather to enjoy some porch time. As I was about to light up the pipe, lighting struck a tree next door. My ears are still ringing. It was like someone shot a high power rifle under the metal roof.

My Step-dad and I had our heads under the hood of a Ford F-500 when it backfired. We were both totally deaf for about fifteen minutes, each of us screaming at each other, but all we saw were lips move. Been close to lightning once, too. I know the feeling, Ron

Little Thor was neutered yesterday so we've been taking things easy. He's on the mend, doing as well as can be expected and we'll hopefully be able to get back to our regular walking regiment Sunday. The break was perhaps timely for daddy as well. I've had some issues with my left hip which feels better this morning. My chiropractor wants to order an MRI when I go for my annual VA physical in December. After surgeries on my left knee, both shoulders and spine over the years, I'm confident I know where this is going, just not looking forward to it much.
Advisors I consider reputable are now advising to take profits on FAANG, an acronym largely credited to Mad Money host Jim Cramer, for Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Nextflix and Google. FAANG has been the ox hauling the cart on the current bull market which traces its roots back to 2009, third best in history thus far. It's enjoyed a 50% ROI which thumps the S&P 19% over the same timeframe. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out if investors sour on FAANG in search of better value.
Big horse races Saturday are at Arlington Park in Chicago. I was there in 1995 when Awad swept wide from last to first to win the Arlington Million over heavily favored Sandpit and cashed in huge that day. I bet the exacta cold and also had to sign off on a W2-G at the window to collect my earnings which doesn't happen very often. That was before the Internet and on-line wagering when the live experience was best. Good times. Breeders' Cup is back at Churchill Downs this year and I'll be there.
I'm starting to organize some tax documents together for this year today. It's never too early to get ahead of the game on that one. After retiring, I've normally been able to have things waiting for the normal forms which is sweet compared to having to scramble for them in the wee hours while working.
Enjoy your pipes.
