I have had it on hand and enjoying it since '98 or '99. Need I say more? It shouldn't be necessary and it's been a stable of mine since the mid-sixties, so I'll hold my tongue as well.

i had one flake left. swung by the b&m and picked up a tin. don't like the round, the flake is all mashed together. the square was so nice with even stacks of flake. i have to go medicate my ocd now, lol.

Well, I just ordered a tin along with Star of the East Flake and GH Kendall Dark. It will be interesting since I haven't smoked a straight Va in decades. Wonder if I'll even taste it with those other 2 blends on my pallate

BeardedpipesmokerI second the suggestion by @chico regarding going forward. The person who picks the current month could then pick someone else, who can decide what blend we smoke next. If we agree, Beardedpipesmoker is it. Any comments ?

Being as I have a few tins of this stuff layin around (the round ones) I thought I'd hop in here. ;-) Decided to do the fold and stuff method. As is usually the case when I do this, it takes a few tries to get it lit and burning consistently. Being an admitted Lat Head (love English, Balkans and the like) I don't smoke many VaPers. I know that there is some controversy as to whether or not there is actually any perique in this blend, be that as it may, I find it an enjoyable smoke. Unlike other more bold (harsh) VaPers out there, I find it to be a mild/medium bodied smoke with a hint of spiceyness and a lot of grassyness. Not bitey, and quite pleasant actually.

Went to the B&M today to pick up a tin of OGS so I could join in. As I was checking out I found I had some Dunhill Dark Flake in hand. Well I guess I won't be joining in this time. Any way Dark Flake is a favorite, guess maybe next time.

I received my tins of Golden Slices in the mail today, so I thought I'd give a test drive. I am usually an I like it or I don't like it kind of tobacco smoker, so please bear with my attempt to describe what I am tasting..
The tin note is of grass/hay and lemons?
It seemed a bit moist out of the tin so, I broke some off and let it dry for about a half hour then folded and stuffed it into my MM Apple Diplomat that I have dedicated to VA/Pers
I get a sweet, grassy/hay taste with a hint of spice that I can't place with a little citrus.
About half way through, I figure out the spice, it is kind of a subtle cinnamon and the citrus reminds me of Earl Grey Tea. It is kind of creamy? Toward the end of the bowl the citrus really starts to come through more and the spice fades.
It is a wonderful combination of subtle flavors.
I think I'm going to have to buy a few more tins to add to my meager cellar.

I did enjoy the spice, but I couldn’t place it. I don’t think it’s perique. At least it didn’t taste like it. I know it’s supposedly made with it, but I didn’t pickup any. The tin description makes no reference to it, but others have identified it. I’m going to do more ‘research’ today.

I just ordered mine along with a bunch of other stuff. I remembered pipe cleaners this time too.
I need to hide my debit card from myself.

I smoked another pipe full tonight. I didn't dry it this time, still folded and stuffed. The hay/grass flavor was still there but citrus was much more prevalent tonight. When I first lit it, I got the citrus, only tonight it was a bit more bitter, almost like orange zest. That mellowed as I smoked through the bowl. Still citrus, but not the bitter zest flavor. Once again it got creamy (for lack of a better way to describe it) and it still had a very subtle cinnamon taste. I tasted a very light sweetness on my lips and tip of my tongue. It really does taste as if I am smoking a cup of Earl Grey tea. I like it

I haven’t had many VaPers but I have to say this one is nice and smooth. I’m not much of a flake smoker, no reason that I can really say just the way it is, but I will definitely be adding this to my cellar and rotation. Good offering for the first months go round. Cheers!

Wonder if we could take a poll in advance of next month's BOM, in order to acquire a tin or three if not in cellar...

I can't add anything to what has already been said. I have always liked this tobacco and for some reason haven't smoked in much for a few years. The past week has been largely an OGS week of renewing an old friendship. It remains a good basic smoke that is particularly recommended to new pipesters.

Wonder if we could take a poll in advance of next month's BOM, in order to acquire a tin or three if not in cellar... I'm selecting someone today who will pick the blend for next month today, however my original choice for got to select seems to have declined the offer. If I don't get a response soon I'll pick someone else. I'd like for everybody to be able to get a tin that wants to participate before the beginning of the month.

Since our June Blend has been selected I encourage any who wish to p artcipate to go out and get some for the month upcoming. I'll start a new thread on June 1. I was happy to see all the participation this month and I hope to see more and more as we continue.
