In a few moments it will be 5:00 PM. That is the start of Cocktail Hour here, Splice the Main Brace, Mud in Your Eye, etc.
I will be mixing Martini's in the cocktail shaker. Tanqueray this week. Martini & Rossi Vermouth, black oil cured olive and a French cornichon.
Sadly, there is only one other person I know any where around here who still drinks spirits and they went to Arizona for the winter.
Anyway, if you are enjoying an evening adult beverage, "Cheers!"

I WAS enjoying an adult beverage last night. A few bottles of Rockshore (made by Guinness). I've a couple more for tonight too, but the wife might want to share those.

Yes, the season is changing. Fall is upon us now. The leaves are turning golden, orange and red. The critters in the pasture look a little furrier. The squirrel brings in his nuts. And I reach out to switch from summer Gin to Fall and Winter Bourbon. A large measure of Old Grand Dad Bottled-in-Bond tastes very good after months of Martinis, Gimlets and Pink Gins. So, it is back to Bourbon for me.
What about you? Seasonal changes, anyone?

Non alcoholic beer from lidl is tonight's tipple. I enjoy non-alcohol beer. St. Pauli of Bremen exports a good one to the USA. I never miss the alcohol. I have never tried Kaliber.

Kaliber is one of the worst there is. It used to be the only one but it seems that non alcoholic beer has taken off. There are so many good ones out there now.

The Cocktail Hour came early today. 3:30 and I am into a Wild Turkey Whiskey Sour. Some days are like that. Not often but some. As I get older with more ailments and complaints, an early glass of spirits seems to help my disposition. Eliza Doolittle had something to say about that in Pygmalion.

Yesterday, I brought home a bottle of Old Forester Bourbon. This 86 proof whiskey was long a reliable and decent spirit. After a couple of tastings, I am sorry to report it is rather bland compared to OGD or Wild Turkey. Perhaps it is suitable for mixed drinks only? At a price of $20 for 750 ML, it seemed a comparative deal. I guess we do get what we pay for!
Whisky Sour. Old Fashioned Cocktail. Manhattan.
Those are the mixed Bourbon drinks I can remember.

I always thought cherry coke was the coke version of Dr pepper. Every day is a school day. Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb are supposed to be prune syrup based. Likely been a while since prunes were in the formula. Cherry Coke is just Coca Cola with what is supposed to be Maraschino cherry juice. Dr Pepper has always insisted that there was never prune in the drink.

We all know that the Druggist in Waco, Charles Alderton, who invented the drink used various fruit syrups along with the carbonated water. Prune syrup must have been in there.

Returning from the watch repair shop in Santa Fe, I stopped at the Pojoaque Pueblo's famous liquor store, "Kokoman".
I was able to secure one bottle each of Old Grand Dad 100 proof Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon and Old Overholt 100 proof Bottled-in-Bond Rye.
What could have been a wet ride home was kept dry and sober owing to my taking the "High Road to Taos". This is the scenic drive winding through the high mountains and was the original trail used by the Rio Grande Pueblo peoples and later the Spanish to reach Taos. Passing through the villages of Chimayo, past Cordova, through Truchas, Ojo Sarco, Chamisal, Vadito, Peñasco, Trampas, Talpa and eventually Taos. Beautiful country with the Fall foliage colors.

Pojoaque was a place that you just didn't go in 1979. However, Philomena's restaurant was on the main highway just a couple of miles out of town and it was the very best New Mexican Cuisine we ever had. If I can find her cookbook I need to get some.
