That is true enough. Jerry Lewis was a laugh riot in France. Germans found nothing amusing about John Banner or Werner Klemperer in "Hogan's Heroes". Any idea how they did with "Hans und Franz" on Saturday Night Live? I cannot say as I have not been over there for a long time. I imagine they make allowances for them being "Austrian" as Arnold is. Ya, wurzelsepp!

And it occurred to me it was as much a take off on Ah-nold the actor as tied to anything else.

I will bet that is an interesting story and great movie. I hope those Indian Army troops were equipped with the Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle and not something obsolete. The Brits had a bad habit of denying their colonial troops the benefits of modern arms and training. Some had the Lee..others had the trap door(?) single shot rifle.
I highly reccomend the show.It gits thumbs up from the Sikh gas station owner here in the town I live!

More likely the Martini-Henry Falling Block or, perhaps, the Remington Rolling Block. I will try to find it. Glad to here it met with genuine Sikh approval. Known a few and really liked them.

Shetland: Good, very. Wire: Excellent. Longmire: Very good. Deadwood: Good. Only one I couldn't stand was The Handmaiden.
(Elisabeth Moss was never appealing to me, and Yvonne Strahovski appeared unattractive, due to her character. Over all story: Too dystopian for me.)
Chernobyl- Have to check it out. Amazon? Prime? PBS? HBO?

I would recommend Chernobyl. It was very good, but very short. They could have easily extended it and added much more.
I started the Deadwood movie last night, but it's been so long since I watched the series, I forgot most of the story.
You can get a 7 day trial of HBO Now, then it's $15 a month. I did the free trial, then I'm paying for one month, then I'll cancel. That is enough time to watch a few things that interest me.
I also enjoyed Maigret on Britbox (I saw the advert with Rowan Atkinson smoking a pipe). I'll have to check out Shetland, too.

The wife and I binge watched season 2 of Shetland today... to doggone hot outside... it took 6 episodes to wrap up that story, it was like a marathon.

I hear tonight is the start of Season 6 of "Endeavour" on PBS Masterpiece.
Excellent series if you enjoy English crime dramas. Set in the 1960s, great cars, good music and mini-skirts, Our hero drive a Jaguar Mark II, lucky SOB.

Thanks, I will have to check it out... it looks like the past seasons are on Amazon. Does he spend much time wrenching on the Jag?

On the other hand, I recall the one guy I knew who drove a Mark II in England thought it was a reliable vehicle. All other cars being relative, I guess.

Good Omens on Amazon Prime. A long- awaited screen version of the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, two of the best writers of their respective generations. One angel and one demon decide to team up to thwart the coming apocalypse, because they both like their lives on earth better than in their respective realms. They do this by kidnapping and then losing the antichrist. Hilarity ensues, as well as an excellent philosophical examination of the human need for belief and the duality of good and evil. 15 stars out of 5. It could not have been cast or executed any better, and a tv series gives us 6 hours of content instead of a normal movie length. Great! Hear ye hear ye! He speaketh the truth. 15 out of 5 stars is a bit low for me...I'm thinking at least 20 out of 5. Book is fantastic, mini series is just a squeaker under the book, which is an amazing feat considering most book adaptations fall waaaaaay short.

Endeavor, Season 6 premiere held the same high standards of prior seasons. The demoted Morse, driving an Austin Maxi was a wry touch. Of course he rose above his circumstances and back in a suit next installment, his Detective status restored.

Hope Thursday gets some relief, too!

Rewatching last episode of season 5 to reacquaint myself with happenings, this by far is the best British Series.

Watched a few minutes of Season 6 episode 1 while recording. I see Endeavour is back in uniform and standing around with his hands in pockets. I had to chuckle. So many English Service dramas from the past have Sergeants and Naval Petty Officers screaming at recruits: "THAT MAN, get your hands OUT of your pockets!!!!" Hard to believe any serving Englishman in uniform would dare.

Good point. Yet it may be calculated as part of Morse's personna.
Still wonder how anyone might know what Ep. 2 might entail. Or just a solid guess?

We binged the new season of Jessica Jones yesterday on Netflix. Third season is the best yet, and I believe it is by far the best series in the Marvelverse.

The Untouchables on DVD, seasons 1-3. The debut 2 part episode was actually a movie, directed by Phil Karlson*. As enjoyable as ever and a little edgy for its time period. Neville Brand as Capone was excellent casting.
Interestingly, 2 actors who will later become part of the Ness squad, were playing gangster parts in the premiere.
*Kansas City Confidential

Bat Masterson. Made a good buy* on DVD box. Not the best Western and the 30 minute run time limits story development, but every episode so far has featured good talent. This current one has Marie Windsor and prior was William Conrad. Gene Barry in this role always made me wonder who the other contenders were, but he's competent, albeit a tad slick.
*$8.00/8 disc

Chernobyl on HBO is some of the best drama I have ever seen. Oh my God, the sacrifices made by so many people to stop an even worse disaster! It is heart wrenching and horrifying. Truly frightenng. Far more so than any slasher movie or undead crab walking children type of flick could ever possibly be. Because it happenned. Watch it, history buffs. I give it a 9.9 out of 10. I won't give anything a ten, because there is always room for improvement, however small. In this case, a full ten episodes would help tell the stories of more of the people better.

Made another bargain buy: Sea Hunt - 8 disc box @$10.00 - Dated, 50's fun. I always found Lloyd Bridges as likeable a person and performer as James Garner. His sons appear in a couple of episodes. I'll be diving into it, later tonight.
