Let me start by saying that my first pipe tobacco WAS NOT AN AROMATIC - I started with Prince Albert and worked my way right up to smoking the big 3 Dunhill blends and Peterson's Irish blends.
I've been smoking a pipe for over ten years, and I really know NOTHING about aromatics.
So here's the deal - I'm dating again. I don't want them to run away. They're a little frightened when I tell them I am a pipe smoker.
What smells good AND tastes good? I smoke premium pipe tobaccos. Well maybe PA isn't premium but I still put it in the corn cob when I am in the car. Normally in the car I am smoking a Fuente but you get where I am going with this. I am a good tobaccos in neat little jars on my desk kind of guy.
Suggestions? Thanks heaps.

From many a post here, a great tasting and great smelling tobacco is Cult Blood Red Moon. Like smoking Dr. Pepper, from what I hear.

I am not a big aromatic smoker, but these are the ones I truly enjoy: Casey Jones Last Ride Blood Red Moon SWRA Exotic Orange Heine's Blend
I used to smoke a lot of Blood Red Moon, but gave the last few tins I had to friends to try. I liked the flavors a lot, but got tired of how sticky wet it was compared to the others on this list. I was very surprised how much I like SWRA. Members of this group turned me on to it and I truly enjoy it. Casey Jones last ride will always be a go to aromatic for me. It is a delightful, somewhat moist blend with an amazing aroma. I have to be in the mood for Exotic Orange. It is has a perfume quality that reminds me a bit of Lakeland essence, although it is most definitely a citrus aroma and flavor. Excellent blend when you can get it. The Heine's I am enjoying is from a tub I have open that is from the seventies, so I can't speak to what the current production is like. The vintage blend has a chocolate taste to me. Not sure if it is supposed to though. The deer tongue is present, but I am guessing it has faded a bit. I can detect it more readily in C&D Gentleman Caller. I highly recommend Gentleman Caller by the way. I don't really consider it an aromatic, but others may.

Sterling tobacco has golden eagle and double eagle.. both fantastic aromatics to day the least. SWRA is a good choice. Sutliff chocolate mousse is great if smoking for chocolate and a crowd pleaser. Sutliff rum and maple is very tasty and keeps the crowd happy!

Boswell aros will treat you right. Top shelf. Pennsylvania Dutch Treat is my favorite. You might also try Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Flake. It's lightly flavored, won't put off others and has a decent amount of nicotine as aros go.

CULT Abacus CULT Blood Red Moon
Both real good. I get tired of BRM sooner however.

Unknownpipesmoker, about your picture.
In college the student union used to show movies. To get in you had to show your college picture ID.
Once a year they would show an X rated movie, and a bunch of us would go with bags over our heads eyes cut out. We would dutifully tape a little bag with eye holes over our id cards as well.

Erinmore Flake is my favorite aromatic. I don't count erinmore flake as an aro. It might want to be an aro.

Peter Stokkebye Luxury Twist Flake is a clean burning Aro. Pembroke has a topping so it’s loosely considered aromatic. It’s pretty good on occasion.

I started out with Latakia blends, then added Virginias and VaPers, then burley blends. I've only sampled aromatics in the last year or two. The two that I'd recommend are Lane 1-Q and BCA. My only complaint is that they are too mild in regard to nicotine (I like a medium level). Mixing in some Five Brothers solves that problem without changing the flavor in a negative way (i.e., Five Brothers tastes great, natural tobacco flavor, but great).

Does gawirh and hoggarth cherry twist have a nice roosm smell? I love the smell of burning cigars and real Virginia's - but the filipina I am dating does not - so I am forced outside! What a quandary.
I too prefer high nicotine. I'm an addict, I won't lie about this! Any good aros with high nicotine? Great suggestions now by the way.

You already have one great Boswell tobacco suggestion. I will add two more: Pipers Pleasure and Bear Blend. Can't go wrong with either of the three so, order them all. Great taste, great room note!

It’s been many years since I smoked aromatics. I started my journey with Captain Black. It smells great. Other than that, I’ve smoked Borkum Riff, and Captain Black Cherry.

AROMATIC - I started with Prince Albert and worked my way right up to smoking the big 3 Dunhill blends and Peterson's Irish blends. PA IS AN AROMATIC. It's Green River burley that's had the life cooked out of it and soaked in pleasant smelling flavorings and humectants. If I had to choose one I'd go with 1Q. The future mrslax liked it when we were courting.

I haven't tried the Cult blends yet, but I will this weekend. Supposedly Cult Abacus could be the quintessential "pass the word the chicks are back" blend.
However, I can say my wife likes the smell of Bayou Morning, and Sutliff Aromatic English. I happen to love both, but the Aromatic English smells a little more "ye old pipe". It's definitely an aromatic, but it's complex enough to scratch the itch.
Edit: what I thought was Bayou Morning, but turns out is something else entirely, so scratch that.

About 2% of my collection is aromatics. 1% Stanwell Melange that I ordered when I got my first pipe, and one is Lane 1Q. Aros just aren't my thing, but those 2 are a pretty nice change up at times.
I like the "room note" of melange far more than I like the taste of it. 1Q is good all around IMO. I call them my breakfast blends because I only smoke them in the morning, if I smoke them at all.

Sutliff Barbados Plantation is a definite and distinctive Aromatic. I prefer it in the tin, though it can also be had in bulk, labeled as Queen Anne's Revenge.
