I am not saying there is anything wrong with that pipe, but I am calling dibs on all your tobacco if you use it!

Some folks are sensitive. They get upset over stuff that most don't take personal.
If I posted that Peterson pipes suck, or that Zippos aren't good lighters, or that aromatics aren't good smokers, I can guarantee some folks will take it personal and get hissy about it. Nevermind that I'm just voicing my opinion and nevermind that I'm basing those opinions on MY experience. Someone will get their panties bunched.
I don't know the OP, so I am not making a judgement on why he disappeared. All I'm saying is that I've seen feathers get ruffled and thin-skin bruised over far less...so nothing would surprise me anymore.

I wouldn't let that deter me from smoking a pipe. But if I paid $200 for that, I would return it as well. Then I'd buy 2 cobs and more tobacco than originally ordered. While puffing on my cobs I'd be on the hunt for another pipe. A lot of wisdom in this. I have a fair amount of pipes, including several older Petersons. That said, I often find myself smoking a cob. They’re just so easy.

I have observed that sometimes people have a perfect image in their mind when they take up an entirely new pursuit. The imagery in their minds is everything. - - And if something later occurs that upsets that imagery, they’re out. The new Lab pup who they imagined laying on a rug by the fireplace, turns out to whimper loudly at night & does his business on the new living room rug. That pup will find himself in a new home soon. The image didn’t match reality.

I'm curious to see if Smoking Pipes/Laudisi Enterprises can improve the QC at Peterson now that they have bought it.

I thought that this thread was dead and buried, but here it is poking up again. Can we just lock it away, please?

Well, for what it's worth, I just bought a Peterson Spigot last week.
The darned thing showed up looking perfect. No crazy fills, Stem and silver are perfectly aligned, the drilling is spot on and ends at the very bottom of the bowl.
So much for stereotypes, huh?
I don't mean to rub anything in the nose of the OP or anyone else with complaints about Peterson. I've experienced my share of Peterson horrors too. But, we can't say they're all bad. This one I got is brand new and every bit as high quality as much older Petes I smoke. If there's a brand new Pete you fall in love with, go for it. Buy from a reputable shop that allows returns and you'll be fine.

I must be fortunate. I have 14 Petersons, some purchased online and some from the Chicagoland pipe show. All of them were perfect and are great smokers. I hope you don't ditch this great hobby because of one bad pipe. There is so much out there to enjoy.

I didn't see rust in the first pic but those other two issues are indefensible. I would return the pipe. BTW, you can get a fine pre-Republic Pete on eBay (smoked) for well under $100. Don't worry about smoking a used pipe; we all do it. Besides . . . do you bring your own silverware to a restaurant?
