Last Saturday I stopped at a local yard sale and purchased an old Marine bayonet from WWII for $5.00. It needs a full restoration, including the handle scales. The blade is so dull I wouldn’t be able to cut myself out of a paper bag!! Once I get back to my son’s I’ll have a project that I will definitely enjoy accomplishing 👍👍👍 Lucky!! I am looking for a cutdown bayonet for my Garand and one for my 1903. The prices they want are INSANE.

Dungeons and Dragons (freaking nerd), listening to podcasts, & shooting. These day, I really like shooting my .223, but I've shot some sporting clays and pistols in my day.

Arrive the first day at the earliest time possible. I’ve purchased everything from pipes with 18kt bands to pre-WWII Japanese porcelain pieces which are worth big bucks. Many old clocks I either kept or restored and sold. Endless old WWII knives and bayonets. Hey....you never know!! Now you have a new hobby.......good luck👌👍👍

Oh please. I’ve been here long enough. To know most of you. Let me sum it up for all of us, Sex Drugs And Rock ‘n’ Roll! LOL. Seriously, you all have some interesting hobbies. I need to find one. I just don’t know how some of you do it. Like strum the guitar, tamp that ash. Strum the guitar. Run a pipe cleaner. Strum the guitar, relight the pipe. Strum the guitar and post on the Patch. And smoking a pipe while playing with knives. I’d loose a finger. Because first and foremost for all of us is the briar!

Once upon a time, SCUBA and motorcycles... probably no more swim fins in my future, but quite possibly a bike.
... provided it doesn't interfere with my reading or shooting. Have to clean out the four tall bookcases to make room for more and working on a Nighthawk Custom commission.
Dangerously close to a watch obsession, but-just-one-more-and-I-will-be-fine.
Of course, I've spent half my money on whiskey and women, and the other half I've just wasted.
All I can say is that I've avoided the vices of gambling and boat ownership, and I thank God every minute.

Does fixing them count as a separate hobby? I would say it does count as a separate hobby. Smoking a pipe and fixing them up are two very different things.

Used to be into hunting & fishing / crabbing , etc. {many moons ago} ... Numismatics [coins , large cents a specialty] , Stamps {when a kid - still have them} . Now mostly painting {oil , wc , pastels} & music {composing / playing / rec.} . I could go on [e.g. chess , books , theology] .
... & of course my prayers go out to the buffalo brother & family ...

Books, Chess, Books, Woodworking, Books, Warhammer 40k and its sundry other offshoots (prefer sci-fi to fantasy), Books, First Edition Books, Out of Print Books, Banned Books, Forums, Warhammer 40k (again....expensive, time consuming, but lots of dice rolling), Gambling, and I think Books....that should do it. (As an aside, I am not joking about the books, my personal home library is over 4000 strong and growing) My wife says I have a problem, but like me, she mourns the loss of the Library of Alexandria so she can't say much. That's not a hobby...that's a love. And, there is nothing wrong with that. If I had more room, I would have more books.

Flying, canoeing, hiking, fishing, traditional archery (not those cable and wheel-ridden things they call bows these days), history, general reading, writing... I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
Bonus points anytime I can bring my dog with on any of these.

Sharpening it will decrease its value as a collectible I believe. l am usually wrong.

Reading, Writing, Guitar, Philately, Photography, Chess, Pistol Shooting... I'm interested in too many things! Is that all? My hobbies include long walks on th...wait, nevermind. Well, I am into cycling, not doing as much as I would like. I cook with my daughter and enjoy my cigars and pipes along with the rare Islay Single Malt. Oh, and hang around with a bunch of similar minded weirdos on the internet when I can! As one of those weirdos, I like skiing (at Lake Tahoe), single malt whiskies and bourbon, calligraphy (I'm horrible at it, but try), writing and art journaling. I also play role playing games (RPGs) with my sons and nephews. As whiskies go, I like what comes out of Bruichladdic, Talisker, Springbank, Caol Ila and Nikka. Only for tasting, of course.

… after helping the wife raise 6 sons and retiring 5 years ago...I enjoy more time to read, once again listening to my music, not my kids...going to get back into motorcycle riding, and developing a better sense of Native theology and culture...As my wife has stage 4 cancer most of my current time is spent taking care of her...with the help of Hospice...one son still at home in High School... Prayers for your family.

Definitely takes away from it’s collectible value if sharpened. My neighbor back on Long Island, was a retired Army Ranger. The one bayonet that was issued to him was so dull, I was able to squeeze the blade within my hand. He asked me to put a very sharp edge so he could use around the house more often. Before I used 3 different grit wet stones, I went through 3 different grit belts on my 2” belt sander. The steel was made VERY hard intentionally. The blade had an HRC of 70!! After 2 plus hours the bayonet sliced easily thru paper like butter......Michael was thrilled.

Guns, leather work, studying various and sundry horse training methods from around the world and poetry.
Poetry? Yeah...I know. Strange. But who wants to be a one-trick pony?

My hobbies have deteriorated in sitting in the recliner. I have just started working on guns and shooting again, but I don't know if I will keep it up. Our main interest as a couple is to travel on the trike, but it's been down for almost 3 years since I had some medical problems. I hope to get it in the shop this month. I need to make room for my reloading gear so I can afford to keep shooting. The 22 gets boring after a while. I don't have thousands of books because I have never had the room. I'm about to pack up another hundred to dump at Half - Priced books. I don't even stick around for the estimate because it's never enough to be worth waiting on. I have done the photography thing, including a view camera and full darkroom. I have done sailing and sail boats, fishing boats and fishing, ski boats and skiing, and many other hobbies. Built home additions and storerooms and garages, grew roses, crocheted doilies, made improvised explosive devices, (as a young teen back when it was not frowned upon so much), archery, ping-pong, built and raced several cars, and probably a dozen other things I can't remember. I have had a pretty full and blessed life.

Like ol Ed, at our age to be breathing is most of our hobby...smoking my pipes aren't a hobby either...like Michael (monbla) said it is part of my life...just recently started to stain cobs and make unusual tampers out of wood found on my property. Reading and researching the Bible is something I do for the enjoyment and further enriching my faith...not sure I would call it a hobby. Recently traded some tobacco for 2 Beattie jet lighters, one I sent to a good friend and the other I had to do a little work (JB Weld)) on it to make it functional. Hanging out with my "family" on the Patch takes up much of my time...the rest I spend with my wife and sweet baby girl (chihuahua).
