40 years as a military/professional pilot. All I’ve ever wanted to do since I was 9 years old, all I really can do!
When you fly commercial, the crew is your advocate. The company wants profit so they will cut corners, the crew wants a nice, worry free flight. The last thing the crew wants is a delay, because it screws up a monthly schedule and time with family and friends.
Treat flight attendants like you would want someone to treat your wife/husband/mother/father/sister/brother, and 99 % of the time, things will go smoothly. There are a few bad apples, but most would give their lives to save you in an emergency.

So, I know exactly what your saying and couldn’t agree more! He’s shared many a “ hairy moment stories “ with me...be safe!!! Issues that his passengers were never aware of, his crew and passengers are his number one priority 👍 You should be extremely proud of what you accomplished in your lifetime so far!!

The only thing I can say about flying is; If the good lord wanted me to fly he would have put wings on my back. Or a rocket up my arse.
I have flown 4 times in my life none of them good.

Did 30 years as a multicraft facilities technician specializing in refrigeration and air conditioning, then did 7 years as a pipe organ Builder, then the last year building custom subwoofers. 4 years ago got bit by fire ants which caused my immune system to attack my body destroying 95% of the nerves in my arms and legs which caused me to become disabled within 3 months. So no more work for me ever at age 62

Second best porch sitter. Before that I worked for the State of Fla as a labor Market Analyst. Tip: Don't ever believe the numbers, they are what someone thinks, not reality. Second tip: Look at retirement as the best thing in life...you've earned it.

Face swells, throat closes, etc. I can tell it's going to happen within 5 minutes. All the others are just little bastards that sting and make me itch. It makes running into ants on the job, which is very often, quite a sketchy experience. I dont mean to jack the thread, but I HATE fire ants.

already did my work history for the most part. In'60 & '61, was on touring US track team vs Europe, Aussie etc all over. Flying a pleasure back then. One bad experience flying to Seattle in around '09 totally killed any desire to fly again.....& haven't. Too many examples of bad experiences. If I can't drive myself somewhere...stay home. Good Amtrack trip to Seattle...enjoyed it a lot...too "bumpy" for the Mrs (going over the "frog" of the switch) so if can afford it, I'll chauffer her to Buffalo or Rochester airport, stay home & enjoy the house. Also picked up recently a couple of nice "light moving" jobs around town, all more elderly folks. Only carry boxes & if any over 50lbs....they make sure somebody loads. On the "qt" of course.

Josh, being a former Volunteer Fireman & NYS Certified EMT......you need to tell your doctor so he can write you a script so you can carry an Epi-Pen. It saved one of my friends life, he was stung by 2 yellow jackets. Thank God we got to his aid in time. His tongue swelled so fast he started choking. Within seconds of the injection, which is automatic...saved his life. From what your describing, your highly allergic to fire ant bites, it’s possible for you to go into anaphylactic shock!! An Epi-Pen is a must👍

I'm retired Navy. I'm in really bad shape though so I could not really work even if I wanted to.
I imagine if I were able, I'd go out with the Merchant Marine.

Many years as a union bricklayer. Now currently employed by a major airline. For some strange reason I still enjoy going to work.

Let's see, everybody else is giving a tip, so...
Enjoy every minute you can with your family. Put some thought into fun things to do together, be as creative as you need to be, and don't be afraid to try new things. The rewards will be immeasurable.

Enjoy every minute you can with your loved ones. (I forget that not everybody has family, or family they want to be around, so spend time with your loved ones, be they family, friends, partners, or whatever.) Put some thought into fun things to do together, be as creative as you need to be, and don't be afraid to try new things. The rewards will be immeasurable.

I've been in the Clinical Laboratory Science field for about 25 years now. Currently, besides maintaining all generalist skills, I'm the head of the Immunohematology department ... aka, the Blood Bank. My tip is to always be actively involved in your own treatment as doctors don't know half of what you think they do. Ask questions constantly about your own care and don't hesitate to make them stop to explain anything.

I definitely agree with the way you rephrased your original post👍👍. I have a few family members that I’m much better off “ in life “ without them being part of it. You can’t pick your family, “ so they say “....but you can tell them to kiss off👍👌👍

Extremely important to watch the expiration date. If a person knows they are highly allergic to peanuts, bee stings or anything else...most definitely you must carry more then one EpiPen and get to the closest ER near you ASAP. In the early 2000’s I saved my Cairn Terrier with an EpiPen. She was stung by a bee while hiking with me, I always have more then one in my first aid kit when hiking or camping. I have no allergies other then pollen, so I’ve never needed to use an EpiPen personally 👍

If your camping or hiking two should always be in your first aid kit. Just tell your doctor your allergic to bee stings and you should get a script with no problem!! Always think of others that might be in need👍

Starting in college, I worked as a jeweler's assistant and then as a jeweler. Then I went into VFX as a matte artist, occasionally doing double duty as a camera operator and art director. Now I work with a dog, a rabbit, a Tasmanian devil, a duck, a couple of cats, a couple of birds, and a mouse. After 40 years working in the entertainment business, my tip is to do what you love doing as you will spend a lot of time doing it. When you stop loving it, go do something else. Talent is important, but not more so than persistence, patience, and an open mind. No less important, expect the unexpected. 40 years is quite a run. I used to work at a matte painting studio in SF. They broke just about every labor law in the book. It was a rough start, but you gotta start somewhere.
