Really gorgeous pipe! I'm afraid I don't have anything really old, just stuff like these: 1872 Barling Magnum 1882 Barling with sterling windcap 1907 Unsmoked Barling cased set 1926 Barling Dublin ...and a few other odds and ends. Unreal! I have much jealousy

Do you still smoke them Walt ? The lion head meer I have stopped smoking...my wife said that she wanted that pipe when I was "gone"...so to honor her wishes it stays in a wooden box well padded. The other pipes that Kirk made for me are daily smokers. Besides wanting to give my Comoys to AJ...(I wanted the Comoys [particularly the Blue Riband] to continue to "live" on after my death) if I didn't have the Briar Spirit Pipes I would have a pretty small stable. AJ has given me some GBD's and Edwards pipes in addition to making sure I have plenty of tobacco (couldn't ask for a better friend). I plan to leave the Kirk (Briar Spirit Pipes) pipes to one of the members here should I be "checking out". WHAT HAPPENED TO ron's pictures (yeah, I was yelling)? Those were some amazing pipes!!

Okay, Why were my Photos Removed! Ron, did you use Imgur to host your pictures? They’ve been having serious issues for the last 9 plus hours.

Photobucket Ron, I sent 1000 packets to Photobuckets server, no packets lost and the speeds were fast. Try reposting one of your pipes again. A few months ago Photobucket stopped their free hosting and the fee’s were astronomical. I was not aware that Photobucket is hosting for free again or at a reasonable monthly fee. Good luck

Shite happens....if their server goes down that’s hosting your pictures, all of you pictures disappear like magic. Once the issue is resolved the pictures are not lost ......they return exactly where placed.

My oldest that I know for sure is an 1864 Austro Hungarian, the only reason I know the date, is because the date is etched in the silver...to put it in perspective, the civil war was raging at the time! Charles Maas London 1885 My other 1800's Austro Hungarian behind the earlier one pictured. And i was told that the bearded Meerschaum was probably by Ludwig Hartmann of Vienna Austria that was prolific in carving French Zouave Soldiers 1850-1890 All of the pipes smoke very good, but they are special occasion pipes. Exquisite Pipes

Thanks guys!
I am kind of a relic myself!
I believe that it was around 1885? When Briar first entered the scene in St Claude... sure people carved wooden pipes before that, but it is amazing how excellent some of the early pieces were executed. Pure speculation on my part, but the tools they must have used back then must have been pretty spartan by today’s standards.

Briar pipes began showing up on the English market around 1851. Loewe opened his shop in the Haymarket in 1856, selling bowls turned in St Claude and shipped to England for finishing and mounting.

My oldest pipe has changed. This thread got me interested in my old Kaywoodie. I smoked it while fiddling in the garage. Knocked it off the bench and the shank split in two. Getting old sucks, my fingers just don't move like I want sometimes. I will give it a proper burial at the next campfire. My oldest pipe now is probably early 60's, Dunhill and Grabow.

Thanks for putting an exclamation point after my question mark...I figgered my dates were wrong...I am not budging an inch on my view though that the carvers at Barling worked wonders in briar. If you don't have them in a fireproof safe, you should Jesse....same goes for Ron.

I have bought a few 'estate' pipe on ebay. Haven't a clue how old they are. So apart from those all I've got is my legend which I bought 3 years ago. Hardly worth posting. Actually, it's in my avatar. ...nonsense... we love your Legend... prompted me to buy two of them...

My oldest ppe is this little Corsica Elite made by Henri Vuillard in St. Claude. It was given to my father by a good friend, who brought it back from Switzerland in 1936. My father gave it to me in the late sixties, when he went from pipes to cigars.
Jesper, still looks in great shape!! Very good looking pipe. You keep your pipes in great shape, your as anal retentive as me! After each smoke I give my briars a quick buffing with a microfiber cloth that has a dab of bee’s wax and mineral oil on the cloth. Don’t have issues with ebonite/vulcanite stems oxidizing 👍 Thank you, Ted. This particular pipe has never been polished in anything but nose grease. I just continued my father's way.

I love that pipe Jesper, and the familial connection that you have with it surpasses anything that I possess...pretty darn cool. It is just too bad that pipe doesn't have a hard drive to tap into his smoking recollections...a lot happened from '36 forward.

Countless tins of Sweet Chestnut have been incinerated in that little bowl. A good pipe friend gave me a tin from the late thirties and it's smoked only in this pipe.

Wow gents, I'm speechless at the beautiful treasures posted here. Truly! My modest collection pales in comparison. :-( The pipe I've owned the longest is a Nording Signature from the 80's... But the one that I believe is the oldest is this one.... The gentleman I bought it from, @ an antique shop, said he was told it was from the 1870's or 1880's. I'm not so sure. It doesn't have any markings. The case, which I believe is original to the pipe, only says French Briar. It has a translucent red stem and a gold band. I haven't refurbed the pipe, or touched it at all really. It's just a pretty little briar I keep on my shelf. I'd welcome any feedback. Dino
