would consider myself a new pipe smoker. I've picked up the hobby twice before, but never stuck to it. This time, I'm refining my technique, enjoying the experience quite a bit more. Learning to pick out flavors, slow down, take sips rather than puffs, truly immerse myself in the experience rather than look at it as another way to get my nicotine hit (former cigarette smoker). I also find myself enjoying pipe smoking more than cigars, which I would've never imagined before

I'm a n00b, started my first smoking adventure June 2018. Since then, I've learned a TON, found that I like virtually every tobacco out there, and have developed techniques for smoking and enjoying all of them despite pH variance. I've ammassed some 18 pipes; Savinellis, Radices, MMs, Peterson(a 999), Kikos (Leather-wrapped meerschaum lined briars) and an AKB Meer.
Lovin' it so far!!

I would consider myself an intermediate smoker. Been at it for a few years now, so not a veteran like others here, but I've earned some stripes.
End of the day, I'm always learning. 40 years from now, if I'm still around, I'll still be learning.

Two years roughly, but I feel like I am more dedicated than the average pipe smoker for such a short time in the hobby. I spend a lot of time researching and window shopping online- Not to mention the fast-tracking benefits of being a forum member here. When friends ask me about the hobby, I am surprised by the volcano of information and insight I rattle off with; A direct result of hanging out with so many knowledgeable pipe smokers here at the patch.

Only been smoking the pipe for about three months now. I'd smoked the odd fag or cigar since my mid twenties. I'd started smoking last year when my mental health issues struck.
I find the pipe much more rewarding and relaxing,as well as helping with my anxiety.
Joining this august body has been an extra privilege and joy

Been pipe smoking for almost 3 months now. Tried it back in 95 and just couldn't get the hang of it and stuck with the cigs. Was going through all the stuff from my dad and found 2 of my grandfathers pipes and decided to attempt pipes again. I lurked here for 2 months before signing on and I probably would have given up again if it weren't for the education I got here.

In other words I know what you mean.

Probably quite a few of us failed on our first attempt at pipe smoking..I bought a pipe and some tobacco in a package together in a local drug store.I tried but I just couldn't get it going.4 years later I stopped in a smoke shop..A fella in there sold me a pipe and some tobacco.Over the next few years he tutored me on pipes and tobacco and how to combine them....No internet back in those days.

This past September was my first 50 years of smoking pleasure, I’ll let you know what I think at the end of my next 50....lol.
I have an open mind and learn something new from reading many threads here on the Patch 👌👍👍👍
It’s all about learning, knowledge and sharing.

8 months in now. The pipes have bred and gave me even more pipes and the cellar is a lot heftier.
I have a much a much better understanding of what blends I like, which I love, and which i dont.
Same goes for my pipes.
Always learning new stuff here. If it wasnt for this forum I would have gave it up after a week.
I do fall in the category of at least 4 windows open. Tobaccoreviews, sp, tp, and tbp.

just for my sometimes "warped" sense of humor! Mid 1962 the maiden voyage (long story). That my "newbie" year. Still at it, side of occasional outside cigar if decent weather. Now confirmed lata-holic.
Just waiting for somebody to show up & relieve me of my "seniority", a few close actually
cheers to all

I’m rather new as far as smoking a pipe regularly. I make up for it with my obsessiveness though!

I have only been smoking the pipe for 5 years, aside from a few bowls in 1985. Edit, I have made up for lost time with 180+ pipes and a hundred blends.

Just signed up and intro'd myself in the intro section. Same story as others. Tried it before but never got it right. Came back to pipes recently armed with better knowledge and skills and took off with it this time.
Now to unload all these cigars I have that never get attention anymore.

I'm new to the patch, bout a year and month into smoking pipe for real. Always hated cigs, smoked a few cigars in my day, but never really excited me. My aunt passed along her grandads pipe to me so I could start this journey. Only a week or so later I ordered a 10 bag of smokable seconds, which came with some pretty sweet cobs I may add, and haven't looked back. Many thanks to the folks here at the patch for sharing their pipe wisdom and creating a space for the full spectrum of pipe and tobacco enthusiasts. I was doing ok by myself, but am sure glad to have found this fountain of knowledge and experience. Good luck newcomers, to piping and to the Briar Patch!

But I will say I have reprioritized some expenditures

I'm sure I am forgetting a few others . . . anyway, buy when it is on sale, free ship and discount codes.

What a great thread guys. I’m sorry I missed this one. I picked up the pipe in early January, 1997. I smoked cigars back then and wanted to change it up. My dad suggested I try a pipe. I mostly smoked Captain Black (orignal) , and occasionally Barclay Rex’s Barclay Rum.

Hello!
I'm the epitome of a noob, I'm still within my first month of pipe smoking, got my first pipe and tobacco during tobaccopipe's black friday sale.
So far enjoyed 1Q, Prince Albert, and Luxury Bullseye Flake.
Within these past 2 weeks, I've also got my girlfriend into smoking some pipe tobacco with me. We stopped by our local tobacconist in CA (Ole Town Havana) and picked up some aromatics for her.
Two nights ago, she was getting some niccotine cravings so we searched around our local area and found a nice small shop. Picked up a tin of Dunhill Royal Yacht. Been enjoying that since! The nice tobacconist threw in a MM mini cob for us and I've been using it for a work pipe now for short breaks.
Can't wait to expand my cellar and learn about the different characteristics of leaves and cuts. Enjoying it all very much so far!
Looking forward to learning from you all...
