I am curious how many new smokers are contributors here? Say 6 months or less smoking a pipe. Anyone?

It was a Yello-Bole Pug I stuffed with Captain Black Original on the morning of September 3rd 1968. Still have the pipe, it’s my pocket pipe in between doctors visits to this very day👍👍

Today is my 50th Anniversary of enjoying the hobby of pipe smoking pleasure 🎈🎉🎊🎈🎉🎊 You and I got started around the same time! I was in Hong Kong in 1969 with my Sargent Major on R&R and he said I needed to loose the cancer sticks and smoke "... like a man." So we went to a tobacconist's and I got a GBD Century Bulldog and a big tin of Granger and the rest of the sundries under his direction and we were "off to the races" as they say !

May be I'll pull out the Checker and do a bowl of LTF. Been almost 48yrs for me.

I would consider myself a noob. I’ve smoked on and off since high school (circa 1973), but never more than a month or so at a time. I never really learned how to properly pack a pipe, or what a good pipe was like. It wasn’t until I found the Patch (about a month ago) have I learned how this pipe smoking really works.
PS. I bought a pipe, now lost, sometime in the late 70’s or early 80’s, that was aluminum. Bowl was briar and it had a short mouth piece, but the rest was aluminum. It was pretty cute, and I wish I still had it to see if it was any good. When I had it I didn’t really have a clue, but I think I remember it biting my tongue off.🔥 Do any of the veterans remember this line of pipes? I’ll try to find a picture.

Congratulations Ted! 50 years smokey.
I'm not a noob, but the amount I have smoked in my life would equate to less than a week's worth of some of our members here. So number of bowls is low, duration in years is a few years.

Still around and many members smoke them regularly.

I guess I am about as green as they come. Only about a week or so in, but I am hooked and don't regret it. I bought my first pipe, a Dr Graybow I believe about 25 years ago. I didn't care for it then and only smoked 3 or 4 bowls in it. I thought I still had that pipe somewhere but cant seem to find it anywhere. Maybe on day it will turn up and be a treasure.

I'm a newbie in that I dabbled with pipes for probably 15+ years, with many years hiatus between dabbles, but only recently seriously invested in it. I'm glad I did.

Kirsten pipes are still being made in Washington state, not by the same people but as much attention to detail as one would want and so many new innovations as well, they smoke well, will post some of mine soon, Google them, regards. banjo
