Or clogging up the toilet....lol No, none of that. It's easy to be snobbish about food when you have a lot of choices. Heat a can, put some Austex Chili and some cheese and onions on it and you will have a better meat than you can get at most fast food joints. I have homemade beef and pork, spinach cheese and chicken, and bean and cheese in the freezer. They are made fresh daily and sold at a little shack down the street. $10/ dozen hot, 3 dozen for $25 frozen. Good straight up without any toppings. But we are lucky. Many years ago I purchased a can of tamales, couldn’t get past the smell. The contents went directly to the outside garbage. Ron, didn’t you also enjoy the canned Vienna sausages?? Just the aroma put me off.

Just the aroma put me off. Maybe you got a different brand than we had. I eat Vienna sausages, but with enough mustard to cover the taste. I have been eating them since I started solid foods. My mom ate a lot of things that I never would. Pickled pig's feet, sardines, potted meat, etc. But that was a different generation.

We used them when I was a kid and didn't know any better. They aren't bad if you don't have any other access to tamales. Stocking up a hunting cabin, a sailboat, etc. I have eaten them and been glad to have them. When it is 45 miles round trip to the nearest food store and the snow is deep and roads not plowed, we eat what is on hand. I forgot to add when it is 20 or 30 degrees below Zero (F) and nothing runs......

I’d much prefer to eat the non-yellow snow...😜😜😂😂😂

Good to know. Perhaps it's something to do with the children... Although they'd never eat it. It's usually the boiling of the hog's head that puts them off. But they taste soooo gooooood! My father-in-law used hog heads when he made them. Later on when you could not get the heads because it cost the meat packers too much to clean them up to sell them I bought a few pork butts and cut them up for him. Still made a great tamale and was a whole lot less work for him.

I had to look up Tamales...interesting dish. I read a recipe but it looks like slightly too much faffing about for my liking. I'm also not sure where I'd get corn husks either. I'm sure a Chinese supermarket would have them, but there are none nearby. Still, now I'm a little more knowledgable. I make them. There is a good bit of faffing about, but they're worth it. Though, you might be hard pressed to get the right Masa flour over there. If you can, though, it's a good Saturday project. Edit: you could probably substitute parchment paper for the corn husks. The purists would chide me for that, but you make do with what you have Though that may work, sadly you won't get the true tamale taste as the corn husk does add flavor to the Masa,

One of the reasons I keep my front gate locked.

When it’s cold and difficult to get to the supermarket, have guests who also bring a covered dish. Or keep your gate locked👍

But, if you can't get corn husks, use the closest thing to it. Except, never substitute pepperoni for prosciutto. Ever. Don't do it. Someone told me they did that, and I just about died inside.

Filiberto's carne asada burritos with a quesadilla on the side. Shores up the arteries.
