Used to have issues with the pain meds I was taking...sometimes they would wear off...got that taken care of but then I had nightmares constantly...wake up in a cold sweat and shaking..talked to the Dr. and he prescribed trazodone...take it every night now...no problem sleeping, no nightmares...can still get up to use the bathroom (different issue) and fall right back to sleep. Might be something you folks might want to check out or yourselves. Walt, glad Trazodone works well for you👍 Two different doctors had me give it a try, 300mg before bedtime...not 150mg.....still did not help. Only sleep med that ever helped was HALCION, which is no longer prescribed due to severe adverse side effects. I’m up now for almost 44 hours, exhausted and still can’t sleep. By midnight I’ll either read or catch up on old TV shows. It’s “ gotta “ get better!!!

Hello, and good morning! It's 536am and I've not slept...for the fourth night in a row! I'm watching Star Trek:The Animated Series, contemplating an early morning smoke. So,if,like me,you can't sleep, post here, and tell us how you're passing the time! I have insomnia problems as well. My problem is primarily from chronic pain issues preventing me from getting to sleep. Then anxiety over not being able to get to sleep creeps in making the situation worse. You've got companions with this issue and my sympathy.

I haven't found a sleeping med that works for me either. Honestly I have the best luck with xanax. It doesn't solve my issue but it helps.

Man, I feel for you guys. I have had brief stints of insomnia, but nothing long term... that is a tough road to travel.

Man, I'm used to being the odd man out being a night owl. I don't think I've ever been in a (real or virtual) group where I found there were so many others. Is it just one more oddity many of us share? Insomnia, on the other hand... sucks. I've only suffered it a few times when working really swing schedules, but it never happened until a couple years ago, so I have this bad feeling it's gonna get worse. Hope you guys get some sleep, or at least find an enjoyable way to pass the time!

Still have not slept, now awake for just over 49 hours. I read for over 3 hours, and watched some TV. So, I’ll be smoking a pipe!!!

I sleep for about three hours at a time. There is a benefit for me as that is about as long as the woodstove can go before being reloaded. This means the house stays warm. Sometimes I am able to return to bed and sleep two hours more or so.

No pain and I am able to eat more solid food other than oatmeal. The problem is not having much control over the bowels and cannot be more than a few feet from the commode. I feel like the Med student in the first "Zoolander" movie who was fed a massive dose of Colon Blast and shits in the wastepaper basket during a meeting with his future Medical School faculty. Combination of Cipro antibiotics, Pysllium Husk, osmotic laxatives and a high fiber diet to overcome the earlier severe constipation complication of the internal organ infections. Well, we done overcome dat, yes sir!

Saturday night I had rum ( 5 shots ) and root beer and a 12.5 ER Ambien. I had roughly 2 hours of broken sleep. The entire next day I felt drugged from the medication and not sleeping properly. My doctor was going to send a nurse to give me a sedative so I’d sleep at least eight hours. Might be calling him within a day or so. I feel like a walking zombie at times. Took myself out for breakfast locally, but I will not drive any long distance right now.

Between meds and no sleep and the possibility of being stopped by the po-po for erratic driving...maybe staying at home is the best route to follow. Not trying to stick my nose where it don't belong, just a suggestion from a concerned friend. So sorry you are having this issue...wish I had a suggestion other than above.

Walt, believe me, if I thought I was not stable enough to drive I’d never get behind the wheel. I appreciate your concern......I see Southern Comfort in my near future 👍👌👍👍👍

We worry about you, Ted. Wish I had a suggestion so that you could get some much needed sleep. Alas the only two things that get me to sleep is Xanax and Trazodone but not together. Pain meds used to keep me up, but my body has gotten used to them...so now I can get some rest along with my sleep.

Works in conjunction with my Gabapentin and pain Meds. So therefore Xanax does not help me sleep in the least. Right now I’m dealing with the situation day by day.

A full nine hours of rest except for waking up every two hours to look at the clock. I stayed put and fell back to sleep rather quickly each time.

Probably best that someone administers sleep meds. Groggy people can accidentally overdose. Driving may be too hazardous, can anyone give you a lift?
