Saturday night I had rum ( 5 shots ) and root beer and a 12.5 ER Ambien. I had roughly 2 hours of broken sleep. The entire next day I felt drugged from the medication and not sleeping properly. My doctor was going to send a nurse to give me a sedative so I’d sleep at least eight hours. Might be calling him within a day or so. I feel like a walking zombie at times. Took myself out for breakfast locally, but I will not drive any long distance right now. Probably best that someone administers sleep meds. Groggy people can accidentally overdose. Driving may be too hazardous, can anyone give you a lift? Family....lmao!!! Today I’m completely exhausted, I know enough not to drive on days like these. Hope your feeling much better today 👍

What do you get when you cross an insomniac, agnostic and dyslexic? Someone who stays up all night wondering if there really is a dog.

@lonecoyote, was that just one good night you had or are those new meds helping a bit?

@lonecoyote , was that just one good night you had or are those new meds helping a bit? That was one night of 5 hours of solid sleep. Infected myself with a sedative. Since that night a total of less than 2 hours of broken sleep. Tonight will be 12,5 Ambien and FIVE fingers of 100 Proof Southern Comfort 👍 Thanks for asking!!!

I had absolutely zero sleep last night(Friday😉)
In fairness though,it was my leaving drinks at work, which started at 3,then rolled over onto a trip to a night club, and ended with hot chocolate and an egg sandwich in an all night coffee shop by Waterloo bridge.
I have slept through most of Saturday though....

After learning that my 47 year old son needs open heart surgery mid January to replace a valve with a mechanical device I’m sure no matter what I take tonight I’ll be awake. MORE STRESS!!!

That is too bad and I am sorry. Back in the 1970s, I had a pal with one. He tapped like an old engine at idle. A fairly routine operation these days. That does not mean without risk, just not as intimidating as back when. Best of luck to him.

Ok it 12:12 and I just made a giant coffee. Not the least bit tired as the lake comes over the bulkhead. Parts of Houston are already flooding with a mere 5-6 inches of rain. My hat is off to the idiots who have planned for controlled flooding for the last fifty years here. Someone should fly their dumb as...s to LA and show them what a proper flood aqueduct looks like I have dug bigger ditches to water my garden than they have in place here. Really every time it rains they act surprised. If you have never visited this fine city we don't have sidewalks and drainage systems instead we dig a ditch in front of the house then throw a tiny piece of pipe for every driveway. What you say that's right a multi million dollar home with a ditch in the front yard. Its like proper drainage is a after thought. You know what happens to ditches people throw crap away in them well they kinda got nowhere else to throw stuff away as the garbage companies wont pick up anything that does not fit in the can. Ok so my rant is over and it should have bored half of you to sleep.

Humming How High is the Water Now, Papa by Johnny Cash with a light mist outside and my smoking area in 8inchs of water. I really wanted a late night stinky pipe and smoking Condor in the house is grounds for divorce.

Ok so my rant is over and it should have bored half of you to sleep. Well now, Houston, we have a problem. I was trained as a City Planner in my university days and worked for most of the '70s as one in California for local, county and state government. Houston was a case study in what NOT to do and an example of the social and environmental costs of poor planning. Back then, Houston resisted government interference in urban development, let the market decide how land is to be used. Don't tax people with the costs of infrastructure such as flood control districts and improvements. Keep them pointy-headed know-it-alls out of the way for developers to do whatever they want. I cannot imagine the situation improved over time. We can see what the outcome has been. Sorry to read what you are going through now. Not that it is whole lot better in other communities. People generally resist planning and do not like to see their taxes rise for some improvements. Had some of the same issues in some rural California communities and they, too, are suffering from fire and flooding.

The problem here is they filled in all the vacant land and that leaves the water no place to go. Well it has some place to go, into peoples houses. Neighbor hoods that have never had a problem, but they do now. Now I live far north of Houston and right now the lake is 2.1ft over full after a 5-6 inch rain common sense would dictate releasing water from large lakes before the rain comes. They just passed a 2.5 billion dollar bond for flood control that wont go far for a city that covers 80sq miles. I find it rather amusing. Now don't go blaming the Southern people cause we import lots of folks here. Remember Houston put a man on the moon but that wont keep Nasa's parking lot from flooding.

Assessment of environmental hazards and planning for their mitigation should be part of the urban development process. The time to build flood control works is before the city spreads out. That includes stabilization and holding areas where water infiltrates. All hindsight now.

On the plus side...I have company on the patch in the morning.
Not that you should feel any better for that. It's not ALL about me, or so my wife tells me.
